I am stumped. My DBF has a birthday coming up. I need a wow gift. I am out of ideas.

I am willing to spend $500.00 looking for something electronic probably he is a gadget type of guy. He already has a great phone, ipad, every gaming system out there.

Anyone know of anything new and cool in the gadget area?

Thanks!

If he has an XBOX have you considered a Kinect for it?

I would ask him. Gadget folks know exactly what they want and what they don't want. Sorry, I know it's not what you wanted to hear/read.

It is not a high tech gadget, but how bout a digital frame loaded with pictures that mean a lot to him
Ask hos family for photos and stuff

Skydiving. I did that for my husband last year and he loved it!

This. Saves spending a lot of money on a useless gadget. There are far too many of the same gadget and far too many superior and inferior of those gadgets.

If he is anything like my DH there is no way to get him something he hasn't bought for himself yet.... unless you pre-order the new I-phone 5 which is expected to come out at the end of the summer or early fall. If you go to the Apple store maybe they can help you work something out. Gadget guys want whatever the next new thing is going to be so a bit of the future usually works for them;)

Good suggestions here, but I'm going to offer something counter-intuitive: many techie/gadget guys I know and work with like to have a cool non-tech thing; something old school retro. Maybe a nice dial watch, like a Movado?

Buying tech stuff is hard unless you know everything he has and everything he wants. Every techy/gamer person has their own preferences to brands and devices.

Has he ever talked to you about his first video games? Or what got him started on it all together? Almost all the old consoles are available on Ebay and some even come with the box and all. It'd give him a nice blast from the past.

Now if he's into fighting games (SNK, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, King of Fighters), There was a home console system called the Neo Geo. It was nearly $600 on release in 1990, and it's still one console that holds a very high value. It was one of those you had to be rich to own one. And even some of the games can go for $1,000 on Ebay.
If he's got a PS3, check his downloaded games and see if he's purchased any games on the Neo Geo station. They recently did a port of some of the games to PSN, that now can be played online.

Am I the only one that's alarmed that she threw her husband out of an airplane on his birthday??? :scared1:

As for your tekkie hubby, I'd say a remote car starter. I love being able to turn my car on in the morning from my bed....it's nice and warm when I get inside.

How about some great accessories to go with his gadgets? Does he have a dedicated gaming chair with built-in speakers? How about a really nice case for his Ipad? Wireless controllers for his gaming systems? If he plays computer games online how about a really cool gaming keyboard/mouse? Or a really nice set of surround sound speakers? How old is his TV? You can grab nice ones for around what you said you'd like to spend and he could use it as a dedicated gaming TV.

There are some great ideas here unfortunately they won't work for me.

He is in the military so jumping out of a plane will not interest him.

He has every video game piece that he wants, trust me he is in Game Stop weekly.

He has the cordless headphones or that would have been exactly what I was looking for.

I can't get him any type of chair or piece of furniture we live in a tiny cottage style house.

I don't want to ask him because he won't tell me AND we have a big deal about surprises. We have consistently tried to outdo each other with the surprise of the gift. Sometimes it's less about the gift and more about how much we put into researching and finding that perfect gift. Kind of it's the thought that counts the most. I would love to tell him I was THINKING of tickets to see the 49ers play next season and get off the hook :rotfl:

SO I gotta figure this out on my own. I know that he would like a guitar but I am not sure where to start with that or if it will really thrill him.

Right now I am thinking a bottle of Macallan 25, I gave that to him a few years ago and it was a big hit and it's so extravagant that it would work but I hate repeating myself.

This is a milestone birthday so I want it to wow him.

What about Richard Petty driving experience? He can fly around a racetrack going 150 miles an hour. If you live near any Nascar racetrack they have it.
I did that for me husband one year too. (see a theme here. :rotfl: )

I have a suggestion, but the appropriateness of DIS prevents me from making the suggestion. :scared1:
