I have recently decided to finally get serious about weight loss and my health in general. I had my 4th baby in Feb. and I have realized that I gain a size every year...at least! Anyway, I don't have a lot friends and need some support, other than my DH who is wonderful btw. I have made running my new goal and need to work on my eating habits as well. I am hoping that I can find some great support networks here and combine my love for Disney with my weight loss goals. I am hoping to run the WDW marathon but not until 2011. We have a trip booked in Dec. 09 and doubt that I will be able to go back in Jan '10. Anyway, let me know if anyone can point to any people or groups on here that would work for me. I posted this in the main WISH forum as well (FYI)
I'll give my basic. info in case it helps:

age: 26
weight: around 180 lbs :scared:
weight loss goal: 40-50 lbs. :scared1:
running goal: 1/2 marathon by Sept. (there's a local one then)
location: Appleton, WI (in case anyone lives near by:))

Thanks for your help guys!! :worship:

Kristy Where do you begin? You begin by patting yourself on the back for deciding to make a change. You begin by listening to everyone here welcome you (and they will). And it you are really just beginning to run, I would start with the "Couch to 5k" program also abbreviated as C25K. You can find it here:

But first....

Get yourself some good running shoes--go to a reputable running store and have them evaluate what you need.

Start slow

Post on our weekly thread to let us know how you're doing--and if you want a smaller group to interact with, ask to be put on a team. Each team is a smaller subset of the WISH'ers. Teams keep track of miles/time--not as an ultracompetitive thing, more of a motivational tool! The last page of that thread is here:

Hope to hear more from you soon.

Kristy: Congratulations on making a healthy decision. Join us on the Lean Mean thread for support with the weight loss. It can be tricky trying to balance proper fueling while trying to lose weight. The Lean Mean thread has several very supportive people who have had to work at weight loss. I think I've posted the link to that thread below.

Best of luck.

Kristy - :welcome:

If you have questions, we have answers, or can direct you to the right place.

You're going to do great! :thumbsup2

Welcome, Kristy! If you need a virtual training partner, I'm also doing a half in September (Disneyland on 9/6) and would love to run "with" you and compare notes. Best of luck, and congratulations on taking the first step!

Welcome Kristy! I'm so happy that you have found us! WISH Team will get you there!

The weekly thread is a great place to post and exchange questions about your general training.

Along with everything suggested, I'd also recommend once you've finished with couch 2 5k program that you also look at John Bingham books. His Marathoning for Mortals is what got me started and I still follow the basic program offered by him. There are book recommendations in the sticky threads and as you progress slowly, don't forget slowly is quite important, you will be ready for the next progression. Focus on a plan and be flexible if need by C25K may need repeating a couple of weeks and that is ok.

Glad to have you with us!

:welcome:

Jump in on the weekly thread, read Bingham's books (they are great!), and just keep plugging away. You can do this.

This wonderful group got me to the Minnie 15k in 5 months. And the DL Half in 9 months. I honestly think I never would have stuck with it if not for the people here. :grouphug:

Welcome to WISH, Kristy. :welcome:

I just wanted to congratulate you on taking your first steps and to let you know that we're here for you in whatever capacity you need us. I second the invitations to join the weekly thread, the Lean Meaners, and the teams. Bingham is kind of like a demi-god around here, too! You'll find we're a supportive bunch, and that many of us have been in--or are in--your shoes!
