This will be the first year that we live in an area that will have trick - or - treaters. I am not sure what I am going to do. I don't trust myself around candy....so maybe pencils ?
I'm thinking about a glow bracelet this year -- and I will help each child put it on.

I could give boxes of raisins too maybe...
Is $0.25 a person (in dimes and nickles) a good idea? Or is that weird....?
I like to give out bouncy balls, squirt rings, mini playdough cans, tatoos, and those flinging frog things. I also have a bowl of candy and the kids get to choose one from each container.
I was thinking of maybe doing fortune cookies (if I can find some individually wrapped) to throw in with the candy this year.
Sheesh - just turn out the porch light.
I am wondering - what political/economic commentary is the OP trying to communicate by "voting with her dollars?"
Here's my stand - candy is one of the few things you can give out that is still made in America. Almost all of the other trinkets are manufactured in China. (As if kids cared one way or the other.)
And what's up with the potato/onion lady - does she ask for an ID or birth certificate to determine a kid's age? Talk about a Scrooge.
Maddle

By the way, I'm loving all of these alternative ideas!!! Thanks everyone!!
I'm glad that the candy is made in America... but it doesn't really matter where poison is made... it's still poison. This is taken right from the MARS website.

So, you all know that hydrogenated oil is trans fat, right? If I had known what I know now about most all candy that is out there, I would NEVER have eaten it. You better believe that I won't be giving MY child this crap... 'just because it's Halloween'. Artificial colors?! Do you think that chewy candy is naturally blue or pink?? It's more than just fat and calories, people!

This is the OP, and THIS is what I mean by voting with my dollars. I simply will NOT support these companies that are putting all of this CRAP into our so-called food system. It's ridiculous. I hope I open the eyes of at least one Dis'er on here.
Stepping off soap box. Have a good evening.By the way, I'm loving all of these alternative ideas!!! Thanks everyone!!
