I need to know what the best way to get from the WDW resorts to the Orlando Airport is. Taxi or other and if taxi than how much would the ride cost?

Aloha

Steve

We always take a taxi when not renting a car, as that's the "best" way for us. It's about $50 plus tip for a one-way ride from the MK resort area, a little less from Epcot resorts.

From mousesavers.com:

Walt Disney World Resort is now offering a service called Disney's Magical Express that includes complimentary airport shuttle, luggage delivery and airline check-in (for selected airlines*) for Disney hotel guests.**
On May 5, 2005 Disney's Magical Express began allowing all guests staying at Disney owned-and-operated resorts to check their bags at their hometown airport, bypass baggage claim at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and board motor coaches to the Walt Disney World Resort. The idea is that your bags will "magically" appear in your room after check-in.

Disney's Magical Express service is intended to make guests' return to MCO hassle-free as well, offering motor coach transportation back to the airport. In addition, the new system allows guests on some domestic flights* to check their luggage and receive a boarding pass before departing their Disney hotel. They can check their luggage at the Resort Airline Check-in Desk and then enjoy the last day of their stay.

The obvious advantages of Disney's Magical Express are its supposed convenience, seamlessness and the fact that it is FREE. However, you should be aware that it is shared bus service, with Magical Express buses each visiting up to 4 resorts to drop off passengers, and therefore your transfer will almost certainly take longer than using a rental car or towncar service. Depending on how much you value your precious vacation time vs. the cost savings, Magical Express may or may not be for you.

*Participating airlines for the resort check-in/boarding pass service are American, Continental, Delta/Song and United/Ted. As of 7/25/05, JetBlue will become a participating airline.

**Disney's Magical Express is available only to guests staying at the official hotels owned and operated by Disney. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotels, the seven Downtown Disney hotels and Shades of Green are NOT included.

How many people? If it's less than 4, I'd say Taxi but I don't know the price!! If it's more than 4, I'd go with Happy Limo, about $110 bucks. No shuttles available??

You can ride Magical Express for free. Only good from Disney owned resorts, NOT for DTD hotels, S/D or SoG. For participating airlines you can check your luggage in the resort and you won't see it again until you get to your home airport.

Taxi is around $50 plus tip. A one way towncar is about the same.

Renting a car for the day, one way, with drop off at MCO, is probably about the same.

Steve--you asked for the "best way". ME is free but will pick you up 3 hours before your flight. They hae to allow time for a delay in picking you up plus a few other stops. Some guests like to live dangerously and cut the timing short. They'll use a cab or towncar service.

I am not able to use the magical express (long explanation that I can not discuss) so I was curious about other options but thanks LongislandCouple.

Jarestel,

How much do you tip for that long of a ride? I need to get to the AKL.

Tjmouse,

It is just me going this weekend.

Thanks

Steve

Steve--A normal taxi tip is 15-20%. Taxi, one way limo or car rental should all cost about the same.

You might be able to use Magical Express even if you don't think you are.

I splurged this May and did the towncar thing all by by self! It was by far faster than a shuttle and waay nicer than a taxi! :earsgirl:

The last time I took a taxi, I paid $68 before tip as I recall. It had been around $45 a year or two before I think so I was shocked. This was from the Polynesian when I needed to head home before part of my family.

There is still Mears as well.

You might also check into a one day rental picking up at the Car Care Center (they will shuttle you there).

Tikiman - We normally tip 20% on top of the approximately $50 cab fare, so it comes out to $60. We took a taxi to AKL once and it was about the same. There are signs at the taxi stands at MCO that list approximate fares to the various Disney resort areas. If your fare substantially deviates from the posted fares, make sure you get your cab driver's medallion number and call the telephone number listed inside the taxi to report this. We've never had any problems with the licensed taxi services though.

Good luck!
