I just booked 7 nights, 3 rooms (8 adults and 2 kids) at Port Orleans, Free Dinning, and Park Hoppers for about $6700.

My questions, is would it be cheaper to purchase room only (I saw that Moderates for that time would be $109) and purchase the meal plan and park tickets seperately?

Thanks!

The only time free dining is not a good deal is when you stay deluxe and with that many people that would even be hard to do.

You can't get the room-only discount AND the meal plan. Room-only is just that...room only. You can get the $109 room rate and pay OOP for meals, though.

The meal plan may or may not be a "deal" for your family (free dining or not) depending on how and where you like to eat. In general, we're happy with a light breakfast in our room and counter service meals. I can do that for far less than $40/day/adult -- which is the cost of the dining plan. If you eat frequently at table service restaurants and you eat pricey entrees and appetizers/dessert, etc. then it may be worth it for you. Or if you just prefer the ease of not shipping out cash or budgeting meals while on vacay thent he DDP may be good.

We use free dining when we travel with my brother's family because my nephew has significant food allergies and it is easier to do TS with him because we arrange things ahead of time with the head chefs and it gives my SIL peace of mind -- she's had a few bad experiences with him at Disney CS places over the years (though that has generally gotten better recently).

Not necessarily. Depends on time of year, how many adults in the room, and how/where you like to eat. I find that the more adults in your party, the better a deal FD is when you stay in Deluxe of villas. FD saved me $1000 over what 7/4 would have for 5 adults and 3 kids in a 2BR villa (not that 7/4 is an option for my dates - I'm just using it as an example...)

I booked room-only for Sept-Oct and was able to add dining/tickets to the deal when I booked on-line :confused3 Free dining was the same price as the room only plus the quick service, which they would rather have, so we booked room only and added what they wanted.

I will almost come out spending the same amount with the FD then I would using RO and paying for food.

Could we make sandwiches and stuff for lunch?

I think the end of my statement was.... " even with that many adults that would be hard to do".

What are your dates?

Per night 3 rooms for 8 adults and 2 kids with dining plan and with taxes, did not do tix

Room only discount $667 ( $109 tax already added x 3 plus $340 for dining plan)

Free dining $502 ( $149 +tax= $167 x 3 = $502.87 dining plan free)

Free dining would save your party $165 per night

Did you include park tickets when you figured I would save $$$ with the free dinning?

Oh, you said you did not include tix--i did not see first time. It might be cheaper to book seperately then, if I need to add park tickets into the mix...

Tickets will be the same price on both rooms. It would be cheaper to do free dining. If you book dining on either pkg you will need to get them through Disney so tix is not a factor in your pricing, you need tix one way or the other.

Free dining would be a much better deal for you, your travel dates, resort choice and your party size.
