Okay so we are headed to DW for the first time next year. We are begiining to plan and start saving....

So here is my dilema......

We are driving so it is a 6000 mile round trip drive. That is another story. It is a long trip. Anyways we can't take our children out of school for a month. So we are planning to do it in the summer months.

I read how 4th of july is so busy but that is when we are planning to be there. So I am asking advice so that I can redo dates if possible. We are arrving on the 1st of July which is a Monday will that be okay. Is it Just busy on the 4th or is it the whole week? Is the summer busy as a whole?

I want to be able to try to so as much as possible since this our first time but will understand if we don't....

Thanks for the input!

Wow, July, we've been to WDW in July about 30 years ago, used to do the opening of the summer season like the second week of June to beat the crowds and heat. July was murder, as well as August. The heat just zaps the life out of you and you're in a constant sea of sweat, July doable, yes, thats why the crowds are huge plus everyones out of school etc. We now do our trips end of October through till week before Christmas, its still hit and miss on the crowds but the heat factor is more manageable. Summer with free dining, if you do go, better have all your dining reservations because others have booked that are on the ddp. W'e're scheduled for mid September this year, kinda earlier than we like but the discount was too great to pass up and we got our favorite resort WL. Crowds are less but the free dining screws up all pass experiences but this is our 39th trip so parks are not our top must do's, we have AP's so popping in and out of parks for just certain things ,attractions,or just a snack is no problem and we plan on just enjoying our resort pool and FW. Just wife and I, children grown and married so no more commando do all the rides.

Plan carefully, take alot of breaks, get ADR's and keep an eye out on the brutal heat, dipping in the pool is grand but coming 6000 miles to swim is not what you want to hear, but do the parks in moderation in July. Good luck and enjoy the Mouse.

We've been to WDW for July 4th last year and almost every other time down has been in June or July - though not on the 4th - the parks are very crowded and Magic Kingdom has been known to have to close the park because they are filled to capacity with the amount of people in the park. it really is one of the busiest times of the year. the heat coupled with the humidity drains all the energy out of you (made the kids cranky at times too), there's usually a rain or thunderstorn at least once per day - usually they are quick, but we had one last year that lasted for a few hours (luckily it was on the day, but well after the wedding & we were so tired that it didn't interrupt any park time).

i love it in wdw in the summer and even on the 4th, i would totally do it again. just be prepared for everything - bring or buy plenty of water, schedule breaks during the day - especially for your kids if they're young - do any dining reservations in advance because with all the crowds there is usually going to be a long wait - especially of you're a larger family like us), take advantage of fast passes, etc

i hope this helps - i hope you and your family have a magical time :goodvibes

Like a lot of people it seems you don't have a choice if you can't take the kids out of school. July is the start of the UK school holidays too so a lot of brits head over then aswell.

If you plan well, get to the parks early and try not to do too much each day I'm sure you will have a great time

Planning and saving this far in advance, and taking into account it is a 6000 mile roundtrip drive, I would seriously consider flying!! With the costs of gas, hotel night stays enroute, and eating out on your drive down and back up again, it would have to be more economical to travel by air.

If you wanted to be there for the 4th of July holiday, you could start July 3rd and stay your month. I would suggest doing the non-theme park activities during the begining of your stay and save the theme parks for the later weeks when the crowds aren't as severe. We don't do theme parks during 4th of July because it is the 2nd busiest time of the year for Disney and we don't care to wait in line 3 hours for each attraction, especiially with 4 kids in tow. Now, the non-theme park activities have never been a problem that time of year and there are so many of them, you would never get bored.
