Hi. I'm new to this forum and haven't read all the pages of responses here, but I can tell you of my experience.

I started scrapping Dec. '96. I started in chrono order. Then I decided to add in some other specialty books like Christmas photo cards from friends/family, then a Christmas album that has all the stuff and only did the highlights in my yearly album. Then added in vacation albums (you know, Disney trips take up whole entire albums - can't fit that & the year into one!)



If I had to start over again, I'd do it differently. I'd do JUST specialty albums.
Birthday (maybe one for each kid and one for us parents)
Christmas
Camping trips
Vacations
Friends and Family
Each kids school days
Each kids everyday/through the years

Others that I've done and would do again if I had to start over:
My life before DH
DH's life before me
my heritage (which includes my old boyfriends)
DH's heritage (includes his old girlfriends and ex-wife)

I think breaking them up rather than chrono seems less intimidating and overwhelming.

And it makes more sense to just look at your Christmas album instead of hauling out ALL the chrono albums just to see Christmases throughout the years.

So there's my 2 cents.

'Cept my mind has a really hard time with making that change in the middle of it all! I "needed" to do it in 2000 or 2005 or something nice and even. I'm really stepping outside of my box doing it when I am!

I do have a single books for xmas, the dog, each of the kids through the years and school, heritage, animals, wedding, and WDW. I'm not big on birthday parties so we don't really need a whole book for those. some stuff is doubled up in chrono and the kids individual books, like school functions and parties.

I have found that since I decided to go chrono I don't take as many pictures if one event but I do take more pics monthly. So instead of 50 pics of the corn maze I have maybe 12, but then the pumpkin contest and halloween, and leaf piles etc. So the time frame is expanding, for a better through the year book.

I think it will actually work out well. I got through 1992 and wedding pics in 1993 at Lisa's yesterday.

Kim I'm stepping inside the box. I'm not a chrono kind of girl, I don't do orderly. LOL So it has been a huge change for me but so far I'm really feeling it.

Very cool!!! keep us posted and we'll try to have a mini meet somewhere in Mass. maybe. We need to start scouting out stores for a crop or something and lunch!

I need to do a bit of swapping around, but if DBF doesn't mind doing Valentines Day dinner a night early, I am looking to fly up Thursday night the 14th, going home Sunday night the 17th.

Because I'll be flying, I won't want to pack too much for cropping, but I'm all for getting together somehow!

Feb. vacation for us is the week of Feb. 18th. I have a crop Feb. 2nd in CT, and a CM conference Feb. 9th.

Well I'm booked, but for a week earier. Delta must have caught on you guys have Feb. break! I'm flying up late Thursday, Feb. 7th and I have an 8:20 flight out of Boston on Sunday the 10th to come home.

If you told me the name of the street it is on, I would recognize it, but at the moment I am having a big brain poof. I think it starts with an L, maybe Locust Street. Does that sound right? My recommendation for the ex-boyfriend pics...if you don't care to keep them all yourself (which is completely understandable), my suggestion is that you contact one of his relatives if you are able to and give the pics to them. My mother had a boyfriend she had dated for four years in her early twenties. When that all ended, she really did not care to have pictures of him. She didn't hate him or anything, he just wasn't a part of her life anymore. So she contacted his mother and gave her all of the pictures of him from when they were together. His mother was very grateful for this and appreciated the thought.

My own grandmother threw away nearly all of the pictures she had of my father without warning, so I'm not a huge fan of throwing pictures away. Having had that happen, I would be overjoyed if I found out someone from my dad's past had pictures to offer me. So, consider giving that a try...I'm sure it will make someone happy.

No more living relatives that I'm aware of. I did search for them on veromi.com and they do live near by but I sealed those doors with double padlocks, tar, hot glue, etc a long time ago. I can't and don't want to go there.

I know how you feel about tossed pics, that's why I'm torn. My grandparents tossed boxes of pics when they moved into a retirement home. Thankfully mom was able to save most of them, I vividly remember our nightly dumpster dive as they cleaned out the house.

sigh, I guess I will keep them and file them away into the before my life really started album.
