I need help from the DVC pros.....

Okay guys, see if you can help me with this one.

Just bought SSR. March use year. Then bought the 130 point add-on (also March use year) and got the annual passes. Now that we have AP's we'd like to squeeze in one more trip than we had originally planned, and the best time for us to go would be this January.

Unfortunately, because the bulding we bought our points is not complete until March 31, the points can not be used until then. So no borrowing! Which means I have a bank full of points I can't touch until April 1.

So, I'm thinking: why not trade with someone who's points may soon expire?

The question is..... Can I transfer those points to someone else NOW, even though they can't be used until after March 31?

Any help would be MOST appreciated,

I think the best way to handle your situation to not actually trade points, but trade room reservations with someone. In other words, they make a ressie for you using their points in January, and you make a ressie for them after April 1, using your points.

However, finding someone willing to do that in December for a January ressie will probably be very difficult, let alone trying to find availability at this late date.

No. Points cannot be transferred until you close on your ownership interest. We had this same issue, except a much tighter time frame. We added on within 45 days of the end of our use year (not our choice, our name came up on the list) and could not transfer points until about 10 days before they expired (there is a quirk as to why this was even done, but that is another story). HTH.

Chuck S, you are right. This is going to be tough~ even if I can find someone willing to trade ressies with me, and even if I DO find resort availability, then I still have to deal with coordinating frequent flyer airline tickets.

I'll give it a shot, but if it's not meant to be, I guess it's not meant to be!!!

If you want to go "inexpensive", I was able to get a same day ressie on Dec 6th at Pop Century, using the AP rate. It was $49 per night ($55 with tax). While not a DVC resort, it was clean and comfortable...2 double beds, small table and 2 chairs - nothing fancy. A "cheap" trip is better than "no trip", and makes you appreciate DVC that much more

We booked it because we drove down a day early for our OKW ressie because of rainy road conditions.

Good idea, but........

That big DVC credit card purchase is way to fresh and raw for dh right now to suggest going on a cash ressie! I have seriously considered your suggestion over this past week and even called CRO a couple of times........ There is no way my dh will spend a penny on a room on our first trip home after buying an initial purchase AND an add on within in a month! He's happy about our purchase, but I know he would think I had completely lost myself to the WDW addiction, which by the way, I have.... I'm just trying to temper it around my family!

I think we'll just have to squeeze in another trip at a less convenient time and maybe even do your idea down the road after the sticker shock wears off Steve.... I guess there are worse problems to have!

10 days before they expired? Were you transferring them to try to save them somehow? Sorry to ask so many questions, I"m just really curious how this whole system works.

We got the vouchers, so we can certainly add a trip later, it's just that this Jan. is such a perfect time for us to go!

Rae, I have 130 SSR points banked from 2003 into 2004 (DEC UY), which expire by Nov 2005.

But I'd like to use them for a January 2006 trip.

Don't know if we could work out some kind of swap, or if there is availablility for the dates you want in Januar.

FYI - Because these are banked points, they are not transferable.... so I'd have to make the reservation in your name....

Maybe you could buy my points, and I could buy yours....???

We'd need some kind of contract....

I had to post back to tell you all that there really IS magic, and things do work out! With Goldi Lock's help, this is going to work! (Thank you, Goldi Locks!) We were able to get a one bedroom for a week at OKW, free airmiles tickets on one of the busiest travel days of the month, and we are all set to go.

It will be our first trip "home," and I'm already feeling the magic............

I was deferring points because I didn't know when and if I'd be able to go, because of Mother's potential Breast Cancer.

We got the results today! Benign (GOOD).

So Pixie Dust came my way too!!!!
