We will be taking our daughter to check into the program in May. Please give me any hints on things to bring, do, not do, etc...
She will be taking her PC - what do we need to hook it up, anything special? How much clothing, bedding etc. What should we do when we get there? Any and all suggestions welcome. We will go on a Friday and she checks in on Monday. We fly home on Tuesday.

you dont need anything special for your pc at least if it hasnt changed.....its just a normal phone line so you just have to have a providor......I used aol the whole time i was down their in fact still use the name i got when i was down their.

Their is talk of all the apartments getting dsl/cable hook ups but no one knows when that will be!

Are you renting a car while down thier i would take her to Wal-mart the first day.... or like sunday before you go to check in.....
I flew in the same day and checked in really late and wasnt able to get to the store the same day due to all the meetings i had to go to and I hadnt eaten breakfast lunch and it was comeing on dinnner Thank goodness for the little game they played at the meeting where i won a pasta meal thing.....

If your daughter has an umbrella or a poncho bring it....

since you will be thier a few days early get to the check in day as early as you can i think check in day starts at 9..... that way you can get the early meetings and oriantations so you could be done by like 2 or three and have the rest of the day to yourself not to mention you could get to your apartment early enough to get the room with its own bathroom depending on how many bedrooms you requested....

any other questions feel free to contact me

I have a pretty extensive packing list on my WDWCP website (link is in my signature.) In fact, there's a whole "Anticipation" section, and some of the things in my "Living" section might be good information, too. I also have links to maps of local targets, walmarts, banks..all kinds of stuff.

They are working on installing high speed connections in all of the apartments; installation starts this month. I'll probably be a while before connections are available in all apartments. I'm not sure what complex they've started installations in.

For her computer, I wouldn't bring anything special. Make sure you have an extra phone cord for her modem, and you'll be fine.

Also, are you driving down, leaving a car with her and flying back? Flying both ways? Because that'll definitely make a difference.

Clothing is hard to gauge; especially for an advantage program. She'll definitely need lots of shorts, tees and tank tops, a couple pairs of sandals, some dressier "going-out" clothes, clothes for traditions and possibly for training -- what is her role?

For bedding, I would bring 2 sets of sheets, and if you're flying, pick up a comforter and some pillows when you get down there. There's an outlet mall with bedding stuff right next to the Commons and Chatham, and there's also Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and Linens and Things to pick them up down there.

I was a CP in 2000. So things may have changed but the best peice of advice I got was:

The people you are in line with when you register will be your rooommates. If you are standing next to someone who doesn't look like they showered in a few weeks and that is something that you are not interested in - then get out of line and get back in line later. Start chatting up people and see if you think you will like to live with them. I LOVED CP but I HATED my roommates. Hey - I mey my husband on CP! Three of my good friends all met their spouses on their CP. All of us graduated and got marrried. We were all seniors when we did CP.

Now they could have changed this but that is how it worked when I did it.

As for what else to bring: basically normal stuff you would bring to college. They have dressers and I felt like it was plenty of closet space. Phone cards would be helpful too.

Good Luck! Have fun! Enjoy every minute!

I know when I took my daughter down for the CP we overpacked. The other posters have given good advice. One of the things that we did was have a bank card so I could transfer money into her account if she needed it.
