My office mates 14 yr old cousin went to the Doctor 7 months ago because her knees were hurting her They told her it was growing pains. Four months ago she went back and they found a lump and upon further testing found out it was bone cancer (osteocarcoma). She was Stage 4 at this point. They were giving her enough chemo for a 275 pound man. Fast forward to yesterday, their last hope for keeping her alive 6 more months was to do brain surgery (she was starting to get double vision etc) I guess her brain is swelling. They found out it is too far gone and they told her she has 2 weeks to 3 months left. She is 14! It just breaks my heart, she was totally healthy a few months ago. Please keep her in your thoughts that she isn't in much pain these last few months of her life and think of her family who will need strength in the upcoming months. :( Thank you!

I hate hearing about kids getting cancer. Its so unfair. I'll pray for a painless end for her. I'd rather pray for a miracle though.:(

So sad, Meg. :( So very sad. She and her family will be remembered in prayer, hopefully for a miracle, if not, comfort. Sad. Thanks for sharing, Presh.

What a horrible story :( One of my nephews had osteocarcoma, it is a very aggressive bone cancer. Thankfully the very first Dr they took him to because of the pain did an MRI, they had the diagnosis within weeks and he has celebrated his 3rd cancer free year. The treatment was rough with chemo lasting about a year and the amputation of his leg but this family has to face the alternative that we wish for no one. :(

There has been a site linked here about another childs fight with cancer and something the mother says really got me

I remember when we first started getting friendlier with the other parents up here. Someone warned me to be careful about getting too close because inevitably, someone will not do as well. I was told that if there are four children up here, at least one out of the four would die. Naively, I thought that wouldn't be the case for our kids. ALL of them would survive and we would wow them all. Now, out of the four kids that have been here with us, mine is the one. I never thought that would happen. Then again, I never wanted any of the other ones to be "the one" either.

I remember when we first stated goingto Sloan Kettering...I would be there every weekend and my friend would be there from M-F and her husband would take care of the other child at home....I would take Matt to the playroom and their were always new/different kids there...I would ask, Oh did Tommy/Sally etc go home and I would often hear. "oh I'm sorry they didn't make it" or "there was nothing else we could do for thm so they are going home for theremainder of time"....I dreaded going and hearing who died or was going to die....Its so tough seeing all the kids like that....on the other hand it used to make me so angry to see all the adult cancer patients all standing in front of the building smoking with their IV poles right next to them!!

My prayers go out to her and her family. So very, very sad.:(

:sad1: Just said a prayer for her and her family. I wish to be praying for the same thing Kejoda wishes she could pray for.:(

Thank you everyone! My co worker told me today that when she went into the hospital she got signed up for Make A Wish. He wish was to go to Hawaii as a family ( they had bnever had a family vacation) So this morning her and her 4 brothers and sisters and Mom went to Hawaii. It just breaks my heart! She is too weak to walk, her hair is gone. :( It is just killing me to think this can happen to children :( Continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated!

Prayers said. So sorry to hear of this. Just makes me want to hold my kids forever....

My nephew & his family went to Hawaii for his Make A Wish trip. They were able to wait until after he was done with chemo so he was doing better but they had a wonderful trip and did some really neat things. It is a trip they will always remember. I hope your friends have a their trip of a lifetime and she can stay well enough to enjoy it.

The chemo weakens their immune system and I know my nephew was often sick with other things in addition to the cancer.

Prayers continue for the family.

That is heart wrenching and my worst fear ever. I don't know how people handle it. My DD's friend died when she was in 2nd grade. It was a prolonged illness. I'll pray for a miracle too.

How sad!:( My prayers go out to that poor 14 year old and her family.
