I need garage sale help!!

I have never had a garage sale before! We live out in the country, so I knew that having it at my house was not an option. Anyhow, my friend, who lives in town said I could have one at her house the middle of May, so I am on a mission to get stuff ready!! I have a ton of stuff. My kids are 10 & 5 and I have all of their clothes, toys, and baby gear plus all of the household items and my and dh's clothes. My question is, do I try to sell all of the summer & winter clothing now or should I just focus on the spring & summer stuff? Also I am looking for some good pricing strategies. I am looking to make money for our Disney trip of course, but I also want to get rid of this stuff and not have to haul it back home with me.

I would try to sell it all. Especially since you don't know when you'll have a garage sale again. True bargain shoppers will buy out of season items, especially if they are a good deal. Good luck!

I would look into a consignment resale over selling your kids stuff at a garage sale. I sold a whole bunch of my DD's clothes at a local Just Between Friends sale last month. They also sell toys and nursery items. I sold my crib and glider last year at consignment sales too .

Put it all out there. The more stuff you have for people to look through, the more you will sell, IMO.

I think pricing depends on what part of the country you live in, how many other rummage/garage sales are going on in your area and how badly you want to get rid of stuff. Obviously, the cheaper the prices the more you will sell. I price pretty low - I'd rather sell 20 things for a $1 than 4 things for $5 and then have to figure out how to donate the remainder. Plus, if you have great prices, shoppers will tell their friends about your sale and so on, and so on, and so on! To me that equals more sales and likely more $ in your pocket!

If you are having the sale for multiple days, consider having everything 1/2 price on the last day/portion of the day. You can quietly mention it to your shoppers when they pay for their items. I wouldn't say it too early though or they may decide to hold of buying items.

Garage sales are a lot of work, but in the end, I have always found them worth it. Good luck!

I just had a yard sale Saturday and put both seasons of the kids outgrown clothes out (boys 4-7x, girls 8-14 plus) and just summer sold for me, but sold well . I did $2 for all kids clothing but denim which was $3 and discounted if a lot was purchased. I also sold a little tikes picnic table for $20, drum set for $10, kitchen playset w/ dishes $10, all the bigger toys sold. For smaller toys/sets ziploc them to keep together. Some items you may want to try and sell on craigslist first for more $$- like video games or legos for example. Advertise the day b4 on craigslist and other local sites free.

That's what items sell for at our local resale stores (Goodwill, St Vincent, etc). People don't pay that much at our local garage sales.

Mine too. It works for me though luckily, I have quite a few regulars that have me call them. It just paid for a bunk bed .
