Hi All...
I am considering renting DVC points for our up coming trip this Feburary(2/5-2/12)...I have a few questions and was hoping someone can help...
1. We want to stay at the Broadwalk Villas for 8 days 7 nights. We also want to stay in a one bedroom villa. How many points would we need for that week?

2. Do we pay the person in full for their points or would they work out a payment plan for you?

3. Does the person we are renting from book the dining plan?

4. Where would we get our tickets? We want to get the hoppers and we do not necessarily carer about the water parks.

5. Can we get trip insurance for the Broadwalk Villas if using DVC points?

6. How do I know I will not be scammed by someone if I rent the DVC points?

I think that is all the questions I have...

Thank you in advance!!

Alright, here goes...

1. You would need 252 points for a preferred or Boardwalk view room or 210 points for a standard view room. Points rent for around $10-12/point.

2. You would work out a payment plan with the renter. Renters have many different preferences. Some require full payment at the time of the reservation, some just a deposit. Pretty much everyone will require you be paid in full by 30 days prior to arrival since that is when we can get in trouble with our points if we have to cancel.

3. Yes, if you want the dining plan the person you rent from adds it to your reservation and you pay for it upon check-in.

4. Buy your tickets online before you go or at the front desk when you check-in. You can also buy them at the parks but might as well get it taken care of at the hotel before you head for the parks.

5. I don't know but I'm sure someone else does!

6. It is a huge matter of trust on both parts. Talk to different people. See who you feel comfortable with. Look at some of the posters other posts. Talk to them on the phone if you want to. USE A CONTRACT.

Hope that helps. If you come up with any other questions, feel free to ask, we're all willing to help here! :thumbsup2

Well the preferred view would be 252 points, the standard views which are actually harder to get would be 210 points.

It all depends on the renter......I do a 50% down at time of booking and 50% 90 days prior to departure. There may also be different cancellation policies from owner to owner.

No, actually once you booked with an owner you will received a confirmation #. With this number you can call MS yourself and book dining, magical express, and other stuff.

Order them through Disney, Mousesavers, or at the gate........

Not sure on this one, but I think you can.....more experienced renters can help here. That would more than likely be through you and not the owner.

Its all about trust. Scamming can go both ways. The owner always has control over the points and the renters have to abide by the agreements made.

Renting is a great avenue for both parties involved. Just make sure you rent from some one that you feel confortable with and good luck.

Thank you both for your help....I have AAA holding a villa for me, but I am still investigating my other options..

Please note that if a renter can get the DVC trip insurance (I don't know one way or the other), the insurance available is quite limited. It does not pay for your entire reservation or loss if you need to cancel.

Thank you! I think we are going to stick with ourr AAA....I know I can get our money back if one of us gets sick....If I figured out everything right we would only be saving $200 using DVC points...I am also a little chicken, so I will stick my agent..

Thanks a bunch!

FWIW, I wouldn't rent if the difference is only $200, either. My peace of mind is worth at least that much, LOL.

Plus with DVC points, you will not get daily housekeeping service - that's worth more than $200 to many people (even though I personally like not having the maids in my room).

Renting from a stranger is not for everyone, but under the right circumstances, it can be a very good bargain!

Best wishes -
