I just decided to try and take my mother to the California Grill on Sept. 14th (the only night of our entire vacation that has Fantasy in the Sky) as a surprise. Well of course I called today and could only get in at 6:30 or 9:30...the fireworks are at 9:15 so neither would work. Any suggestions? Should I just call everyday and hope? What do you all think?

You could try to call each day, but that doesn't guarantee that you will get a window seat with a view of the fireworks. I know that the window tables are in high demand on fireworks night, and probably all the dining patrons would prefer a window table.

Why don't you take the 9:30 PS, get to the Contemporary early, have a drink in the lounge, and watch the fireworks from the observation deck? That may be a better choice., and then you will be sure to see the fireworks will a great view.

That is exactly what I would recommend--and that implies that you REALLY want to eat at CG in the first place. Many folks believe you need to eat there to see the fireworks--as tho it's some sort of package deal, or part of a show.Or that you can even see the fireworks from all restaurant tables. Actually, neither is true. Much better views of the fireworks are had from the observation deck.. and anyone can just ride the elevator to the top of the Contemporary and go to the deck. And unless you have a window table (or very close to a window table) you'll wind up stopping eating, getting up and walking either to the window area (or out to the observation deck)when the fireworks start.
And don't count on getting a table in the lounge very easily--there aren't many and they are quite full too. When we ate at CG in May, our PS was for 8:00. WE had to STAND and wait a full hour until our table was ready at 9:00. There were absolutely no seats at the bar or in the lounge area.

I'd grab the 6:30 and keep calling. After dinner you could always ride the monorail and explore before returning to watch the fireworks from the observation deck.

The other thing to keep in mind is that even if you DO get a seating in conjunction with the fireworks show, your table may not have the best view of it.

As previous posts have mentioned, take the later seating and have a cocktail in the bar area or just go out to the observsation deck.

yeah, take the later seating and watch the fireworks from the deck, then you can sit down and enjoy your meal instead of fighting for a spot on the down elevator=-

We had a table that was one spot away from the window and when the fireworks began the people far from the window came & stood all over and in the way so we had to get up and find a spot so we could see.......so unless you are right at the window you're out of luck...and there aren't many of those tables. I'd take the previous posters advice and go to the observation deck and dine at 9:30.....
