I need advice!

Sounds like the little guy already has anger management issues. His parents need to talk to a professional about this before one of his younger siblings is injured is some way.

God bless that child he is gonna need it
I'd be careful letting my children play with him as he doesn't know when to stop
Sounds like he is crying out for help

I can understand that the family has alot going on right now but for the boy to throw the hamster against the wall, that is way off base. He definately needs some help. What is also troubling is that he doesn't seem to have any remorse for what he did to the poor hamster. I would keep an eye on him since kids who start out killing animals can frequently go on to hurt other children. I hope they get him into counseling soon. I also feel very badly for the hamster and your children.

I was thinking that this boy maybe squeezed a little too hard too many times. He threw him against the wall. Oh my! I dont know what I would do if I were his parents.

I think DH handled it fine and I think the reaction from the neighbors was also appropriate. I just hope their youngest makes it through and that this boy gets the help he needs!

Geez, sorry to hear about that. This has been a bad weekend for pets! I found my sister in law's cat and it was not good. I still think about it. All I have to say is there was a garage door involved, but at least it was not like this.

I was going to say they didn't need that added to their plate, but with your update I think your husband did the right thing by telling them. If this child *threw the hamster* against the wall, he *knew* what he was doing (at least in part) and that was a serious cry for help. I hope the parents are able to help him. They're already under a lot of stress. :(

P&PD going out to y'all, and to that family.

I completely agree. I would have never, even at age 5, thrown a hamster or even a baby duck against a wall. When I murderd the baby duck, it was accidental and I was filled with remorse...doesn't sound like the case with the 5 year old that killed your hamster. I am sorry for your loss.

Wow, that boy is in need of serious help. I hope his parents do more than just punish him by making him sell his toys and buy your dd a new hamster. I hope they get him and themselves some counseling so that he doesn't end up being some kind of monster when he grows up. Little kids that kill animals worry me.

I think in the end that your DH did the right thing by talking to them... it appears the little boy really needs some help, and is dealing with alot of pinned up anger. I hope they can work with him in the midst of their other family crisis. How sad for that famiyl... I hope your family can continue to be there for them. I am sure they appreciate your friendship and kindness, and will continue to as time goes on... How sad.

I would keep it quiet until their youngest is home and better. They have so much to deal with right now, and it sounds like it was an accident.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your pet :(

And my heart goes out to your friends. I hope their baby gets better.

EDIT : After reading your update, I think you did the right thing. I hope the boy was just crying out for help because of teh stress in his life right now, but to kill an animal and show no remorse is pretty scary/sad.

The kid eeds help. If this is unusual behavior for him, since his sibling became ill, then that's probab;y the root of it.
