We'll be visiting Disney in June and we're starting to think about our restaurant choices. I've heard mixed opinions about the Coral Reef and was just wondering what some of you thought of the food. I know it's somewhat expensive and want to see if you think it's worth it. Thanks.

We did this one last year and while we were glad we did it, it's not a repeat for us anytime soon. The theme is awsome. We sat right by the tank and were treated to hundreds of fish swimming by our table. The food was good but not great. The price was very high for the quality and quanity of the food. Our waiter was very cold and boarded on rude. OK, if money is not an issue, but not our favorite.

We ate lunch there January 8, 2002 and we both realy enjoyed it. (Aren't Passporter's a wonderful thing? ;) )
It wasn't cheap, the portions on the small side, but the food was good. The portions size were good for lunch. You walk away satisfied, but not stuffed. And most likely nothing will be left on the plate. But it was $teep for lunch. (Good quality food though.)
It was a one time experience and we enjoyed it. Glad we went. But once is fine -- unless someone else is buying! ;) :jester:
I had crab cakes ($12) & salad ($6)
DH had Garlic Shrimp ($21)
2 ice teas $4

Final total with tip = $52.58
Good lunch though. :) We were lucky to be there as two divers were in the aquarium. Very neat.

It is expensive, but it's one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. We go for lunch to save some $$, and also we like a break mid-day. If you have kids, have them bring their food right away, then get them the peanut butter playdoh dessert. It's really cute, and it will keep them entertained for a while also.

We went for lunch and we loved it. The atmosphere is the draw ... but we loved our food as well. I ordered a cup of soup and an appetizer. (The scallops were wonderful). That was just right for lunch and it kept the price down, too. The kids enjoyed it. We saw a diver in the tank and the dolphin was "frollicking" with him. My DD5 still talks about the "man-fish" that was in the tank (she was only turning 4 when we went)!

Also, in the summer, it is a nice break from the sun and the heat. It is not a "must-do" for us every trip, but I do recommend going once!

:Pinkbounc :jester: :earsgirl:       ;) :o :) :p  :bounce:  :earsboy: :sunny:

The restaurant is beautiful, but we make better seafood at home than we had at Coral Reef, and for a lot less money. We spent $50 for iced tea and two entrees. Not sorry we tried it, but we won't be going back.

We went for lunch in June 2002. A/C was wonderful! Waitress was terrific, very friendly and knowledgable. We enjoyed the fish identification card they provided so our DD5 could check out the fish. The tank is superb and eating right next to it is really something (if not a little weird to be eating seafood while watching fish swim by). We had a little plastic dolphin on the side of our beverage glasses. DD5 had pizza, DW had shrimp pasta, DH (me) had shrimp scampi. I've had better but on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it an 8. Yeah, it's a bit pricey but what isn't at Disney?
If you've never been, it's worth at least checking out the menu and looking inside.

I've eaten at Coral Reef twice and was disappointed both times. The first time was in 1990, I think, and we had terrible service. We were on the Gold Key or Deluxe Plan, whatever they called it then. The last time was in Oct 2001 and again, bad service. Way overpriced food IMO and bad service. Just my 2 cents.
