So tomorrow (yes, tomorrow), I am going in to read to my DD's first grade class. I'm reading the book Thank You, Sarah, which is a great book about Sarah Hale, who wrote to all the presidents over a 38-year period to get Thanksgiving made into a national holiday. I found a cute craft (a head band that had turkey legs on it) in Family Fun, but it's just not working out very well. Anyone have any ideas for a cute, but quick, Thanksgiving craft they can do? The teacher suggested headbands with feathers, or vests made of paper bags. I was thinking of something more original...but have gotten nowhere!!! Any ideas?

What about making cornacopias? Something diffeerent. Roll brown paper or paper bags to make the cornacopia (I do not know how to spell this word and it does not look right!) and have them make fruit and veg. to put in it. Maybe writing on the fruit something to be thankful for or why Thanksgiving needs to stay a holiday. Maybe even have apples or grapes for a snack!

Just an idea. :)

Cut a round piece of brown paper for a body, a peanut shaped (smaller on one side) orange one for the neck and head of a turkey. Have the kids trace and cut their hands out of orange, yellow, red paper for feathers.

Glue stick neck and head on top of body, feathers behind near the top and you have a turkey, and a reminder of the size of their beautiful hands. Have them draw on the eyes, beak, gobbler.

If you keep it small (like 4" diameter body) you only need a few copies of their hands. You could minimum draw or even cut the other shapes tonight to save time during the class.

Good luck! Those turkey leg hats didn't look that simple, but I admire you for trying to put a Disney spin on it!
