OK, here's the deal. I'm pregnant with our 3rd child. DH and I already have 2 great boys, and as with my previous 2 pregnancies we will not find out the gender of this baby until it is born. What is driving me nuts is when we tell people we are pregnant again, we are getting all these rude comments! Things like "We are praying you have a girl", "God, I hope it's not another boy!", and "So, trying for a girl?". DH thinks I am being too sensitive, and maybe I am, but give me a break! I can't control what we are having, we have always wanted 3 kids no matter what, and yes I would be thrilled if it were another boy. I'm definately hormonal so I'm looking for some comebacks that might make people think twice before saying something dumb.

Anyone ever gone through this?

If it's a man who says it: "How would you have liked it if someone had said that to your mother?"

If it's a woman: "how would you have liked it if someone said that about your (dad, husband)'s mother"

if a woman with a son: "how would you have liked it if someone had said that to you?

Two wrongs don't make a right if you are looking at it as being rude. IMHO I think you're just being overly sensitive about it.

How about "We're happy with whatever God gives us. We do not know."

I agree.

I don't think people are going out of their way to be rude. :confused3

My sister would just smile and say they were shooting for blue eyes (like hers). Her boys and hubby all have brown (including the 3rd little boy!)

No wisdom here, sorry, just replying because I like the word "snarky."
Note to self, add word snarky to vocabulary.

Just play dumb...

We are praying you have a girl!
Either that or a boy.

God I hope it's not another boy!
Or a girl!

So, trying for a girl?
Or a boy - either one.

We don't care what it is; as long as it doesn't grow up to say stupid things! :teeth:

::yes:: ::yes::

I have 3 girls and I got all of those same comments when I was pregnant with number 3. I didn't get upset though. I actually did want a boy at first, but as time went on, I really wanted another girl. I just knew how to handle them better. Whenever someone would ask me what I was having, I'd just say, " a baby". Or if I was wanting to be snarky, " a puppy".

I like a lot of the answers so far. But how about a really far-off wierd answer like "The boys are hoping it's a dog." :dog:
OMG! I just saw Goofy Ruthie's response! :rotfl:

I would just reply with "Wow, what a strange thing to say to a pregnant woman"...I have a feeling that may make a few stop and think.

I saw that word on another post and loved it!! I even shared it with some friends!! I love the dis....my vocabulary has totally improved!!

You could also look them in the eye and say...." I just hope it's mine!!"
When I was pregnant w/ my daughter (it was not planned) and people would say stupid things, I would say....I don't know how it happended, I wasn't even there!

Well, I didn't get that, specifically, but I'm pregnant with #4, second boy. But one of my favorites to do was, if asked, "Are you having a boy or a girl?", I would say, "Yes!" This always confused the asker.

This is such a stupid thing--everyone knows you just want healthy, indoor or outdoor plumbing is so much less important. Although I like the puppy answer, you might also try, "Gee, I'd love another boy--I have wonderful boys!" That's what I said about my girls, because I wanted #4 to be a girl. Or a boy.

:rotfl2:
That's great!

That reminds me of when I was pregnant with my third...my son (4 at the time) was going through this phase where he loved the color black...clothes, crayons, everything (we were slightly worried, but he is fine now ;))

People would ask him what he hoped for and he would say "I hope the baby is black"...quite a few raised eyebrows and chuckles with that.

Here's my suggestion....

"Gosh, I had no idea you had an opinion!" in response to whatever they said. It won't be until later that they'll think, "Hmmm, that sort of sounded like a compliment at the time, but now, I don't know, it may be that she was BEING SARCASTIC!!!!! And she never did give me any response..."

Of course, I really like the puppy one, too...

:teeth: I had to laugh at this. My standard answer with #3 was "We just hope it's not a puppy." No need to be snarky, even though I'm sure you feel snarky(at least, i did at that stage.) Really, all anyone should hope for is a healthy baby...and leave it at that.
