Oh no! I signed up to take voice lessons here at school. They were supposed to start tomorrow, but I got an email from the teacher that said this week's lessons are cancelled due to room availability. Why is this a problem you ask? Auditions for UT's production of Oliver are this weekend, and the song I've chosen to use is one I haven't sung with the accompaniment since high school! (It's called "Blame it on the Summer Night" from Rags) I was counting on having that voice lesson tomorrow so I could run the 16 bars of the song I need for the audition. So what do I do now? Risk "Blame it on the Summer Night" and hope the accompaniment doesn't throw me off (the director did see Oklahoma and heard me sing in that after all) or pick something that I've sung with the piano recently even if it may be less interesting?

How about going over to the practice rooms and seeing if you can scrounge up someone to play you a few bars?

If you can't find anyone, I think I'd go the safe route and do something where you've heard the arrangement and feel comfortable.

Something that you have practiced recently would probably be much better. :)

AngieBelle, I'm an accompanist and love playing for auditions, but I'm afraid that I'm a little bit too far away to play for you. ;)

What I would say is to definitely go with a song that you are totally comfortable with. You want them to see you at your very best. It might seem "less interesting" to you, but you have to go with something that you are solid on. There are too many variables when it comes to auditions. If you think that the accompaniment might throw you, there's probably also the chance that the accompanist could get thrown, too. (I would hope not, but you never know). I also wouldn't want to fall back on the director's already hearing you before. You want to use those 16 bars to show what you have right then.

Let us know what you pick! :D :D :D

I just realized that another problem I have is I left most of my music books at home so my selections are kinda limited. (ok, ok, bad excuse, there's a really nice music library here) I had a feeling you all would suggest going with something I've had more practice with...makes sense...but awww, I had my heart set on doing the other one.
