My dishwasher died last week and we haven't had a chance to look for a new one yet. It was 8 years old so it didn't do too badly. It was a Zanussi and I'm tempted to get another Zanussi to replace it, unless anyone has any other good recommendations.

It needs to be slimline and less than £300 - preferably £250 (I've seen a lovely Meile online for over £400, but I have to draw the line at £300.)

So any recommendations or warnings gratefully received.

I wouldnt bother getting another zanussi, years ago they were very good but not now.
I now have a bosch and it has been excellent!

you can have my husband he doesnt do it very often or very well but at least it gets him out of my way.....

Mind is the hotpoints first edition and is eight yrs old now & i've been very happy with mind Libby. :thumbsup2

Miele definitely - I have had mine over 12 years and £400 is a bargain.

It was nearer £500 and I just don't have that amount to spend at the moment.

Thanks Netty for the warning about Zanussi - it actually rings bells now that you've mentioned it.

I've seen some cheap (£180ish) ones but I'd rather buy a reputable brand - so I think I'll look closely at Bosch and Hotpoint.

BTW I've got the "Husband dishwasher" and it seems to have a faulty time delay switch as he always puts off the washing up for a long time.

I researched into dishwashers a great deal both through Which magazine and speaking to electricians.

Basically, if you can't have a Miele the only other choice has to be a Bosch.

When we bought ours, we couldn't get a slimline Miele so we got a slimline Bosch. Absolutely brilliant and the dishes are clean as well!!;)

Before my new kitchen was installed a couple of year ago and they installed a built-in Miele, I'd had a Bosch for years so I really recommend them... :thumbsup2

Another vote for Miele from me, fantastic machines.

I'm leaning towards a Bosch now - I've just got to get DH out to look at them. Thanks everyone for your comments.

You can have my wife if you like, not that she will do the washinh up, I do it most of the time. LOL

After having had no end of trouble with both a new dishwasher and a new washing machine (including being without a dishwasher all over one Christmas whilst it was taken away for repair), we replaced both with Miele models. This really is a case of "you get what you pay for" and I was just sick to death of shoddy quality - I just wanted the best. We've had both for several years now with no sign of a problem.

If you can't stretch to a Miele, at least go for another German brand. When we replaced our oven and hob, we couldn't quite stomach the Miele prices so we went for Neff (who I think are now owned by Bosch).

Dishwashers are covered in this months Which? magazine.

The top 3 slim line freestanding ones are:

1. Bosch SRS45E32GB Exxcel (£330)
2. Miele G 1202 SC (£749)
3. Hoover HEDS668-80 (£245)

If you need any more info from the Which? report let me know :)

Thanks for that, Tim, but I ordered a basic Bosch model yesterday. (It had to be less than £300 or I'd have had to dip into the savings account for next year's WDW holiday - and I can't be doing that.)

I'm a tad cross though as the John Lewis internet site said delivery usually in 7-10 days but we got home late yesterday afternoon to find a phone message saying it would be delivered on March 6th!!!! At least that what we think he said, he had such a strong foreign accent that it took DH and me 5 times listening to the message to decipher it. DH has to ring them tomorrow (and just getting the phone number off the meassage was a task in itself) to make sure.

Just adding that we have an AEG cooker and when the clock went wrong during its warranty period it was repaired by Zanussi. It gets really confusing over who owns whom, our newish Zanussi washing machine also has Electrolux written on it and the Seimens dishwashers we looked at obviously shared parts with the Bosch ones.
