I posted this on the family board, but I think I'll repost it here, too.

We are a family of 5, and we have ressies at the Contemporary for the first week of January. We just found out my 13 year old niece is moving in with us in December (long story...we've been trying to get guardianship of her for a couple of years). Anyway, so now we will be a family of 6. The ages of the children will be: 17, 13, 6, and 4. I was thinking of just getting 2 value resorts, but then I started looking at all of the awesome off site resorts out there. It is so overwhelming, I don't know where to start!!

I was looking at the Marriott Grande Vista and I liked the 2 bedroom villas because of all the room. I think it would be GREAT if I could drink my coffee and read the paper in the morning without waking everyone (I wake up super early). And it's especially important for the 2 teenaged girls to have their own bathroom! But they don't offer shuttle service to the wDW parks. We were thinking the 2 girls would do some of the parks on their own. But that's not too important to have shuttle service (though it would be nice).

Can someone recommend a great, clean, resort that would give a family of 6 lots of room, 2 bathrooms, and easy access to WDW (we're only doing disney). Oh, and it would be great if they offered some types of things in the evening for the little kids in the family.

I recommend Windsor Palms. They have everything from 3 BD condos to townhomes and 6 BD homes. It's VERY quite and only a few minutes from WDW. The rates are reasonable and WELL worth the price considering you can "spread out".

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, w/d, and onsite:)

Have fun!! And congratualtions:)

Hi Mary,
Have some fun shopping around and check out:

www.vrbo.com and www.villadirect.com

On vrbo search Disney area and for your group look at a 4 or 5 bedroom 3-4 bath pool home....cost will be unbelivable for the room you will get!

At VillaDirect search the 4 and 5 bedroom homes.
A private home is a fabulous way to see Disney and you will have your coffee on the deck next to your own pool. You will also have your own private bath off the master and plenty of other baths for the kids.

Look at homes in Emerald Island, Indian Creek, Formosa Gardens Oak Island Cove or Wyndsor Palms for homes very close to Disney...like 6 to 10 minutes....

There are literally thousands of homes for rent fully furnished and with private heated pools.

We have visited Disney 30 plus time with kids and grandkids and this is the only way to go with a group like yours....Our theory is "no matter how much we love each other, two bathrooms is not enough!!!!!"

enjoy shopping and ask us any questions

go to the DVC rental/trade board on this site

the DVC resorts are OKW (cheapest), VWL, BCV, BWV and the new SSR.

if you want close to the MK - then VWL - if you want more space and bigger rooms at a cheapest cost - OKW

if you Epcot/Studios resorts - BCV or BWV

if you want the newest SSR - it is over in downtown disney.

Now if you want to stay off-site you will need a van (6 is too many for a car) - so add that your cost.

Sheraton's VIstana resort
several marriott the closest are Royal Palms, Imperial Palms, Sabal Palms

the newest are Grande Vista and Horizons

the most popular is Cypress Harbour

these are II resorts so you can get a discount price here
www.condodirect.com

the Sheraton Vistana Resort is also an RCI resort. There is also Hilton Grand Vacation Club (HGVC) - in Seaworld and on International Blvd.

there is also Sheraton Vistana Villages over on International Blvd.

Embassy Vacation Resort, Cypress Point are also on that side - near DD.

over on the other side - Silver Lake, Westage, Star Resort

for even closer - Fairfield Bonnet Creek

get a map from
www.floridakiss.com

you want the free vacation planning kit

it only listed the resorts in Kissimmee - however the map has the roads that most of the others are on

if you want the type of transportation at off-site that WDW provided - sorry not going to happen.

there are RCI resorts

www.skyauction.com

is one of the best places to find them

Have you checked into Cypress Pointe? Although we haven't stayed there, yet, we are booked to stay there in January.
We were very pleased with the price for 3 bedroom unit that we could get through hotelkingdom. Through extensive searching the overall feedback regarding Cypress Pointe has been very positive. We found numerous threads on these boards as well as tripadvisor.com, that were very helpful in choosing this resort.
Good Luck in planning & have a great holiday!

do a villa or condo they are cheaper full kitchens, 2 or 3 bedrooms, and 2 full bahts

Onsite with the older kids is what I would go for if the money is not an issue. A dvc 2 br will hold all of you, but they are pricey, even if you rent points. OKW is the best deal, as mentioned. Most space for the least points. The room arrangements might be a little strange since they have 1 king, 2 queens and a sleeper sofa in the living room. not sure how that would work for you. 2 bathrooms.

You might be better off in 2 regular rooms, because you will have 4 real beds.

A pool house would also be great!

We have also stayed at cypress pointe grande villas and they have a ton of room. 3 br, 3 baths, full kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. You'd have a nice king bed for the 2 of you with a big jacuzzi, a room with twin beds nearby for the little ones and a sort of separate suite for the older girls with a queen bed and I think a sleeper sofa but maybe just a sofa, and its own little patio/screened porch.

I'm not sure about activities though. The location is convenient. We really like that area, although lately we've been staying near Windsor Palms more for some reason.

Another vote for Cypress Point through hotelkingdom.com I don't believe they have a shuttle, but you're just a short distance from the back way to POR and FW. This appears very reasonable for the space, washer-dryers, and baths.

The private pool homes offer so much room and things to do. I know in my own we have a pool and spa. It is in the back yard so it is open all the time. I have tv's in every room dvd's in every room playstation II in the living room. Three rooms have vcr's. There are games, books, pool toys, and movies to watch. The homes offer familys so much. Mine is less them 3 miles from animal kingdom and so are many others. The whole family can be in the house and not on top of each other. To stay in the private homes it is cheaper then most disney hotels. It is an option for large families. Or multiple people going together.
