I need a drink!???

Not sure if this is the best place for this post but I couldn't figure out exactly where to post it, so I figured since it was a question about the airport I would start here.

We are trying to figure a way to get a few bottles of liquor to our resort & we will be without a car. From what I can tell, the Orlando airport has a duty free shop that sells liquor, so I am thinking that we can just pick up a few bottles before jumping on Magical Express, but I'm not sure if there's any special rules about buying things at duty free shops.

Anyone have any experience with doing this? I would greatly appreciate any feedback or tips.

Don't know about the duty free at the airport, but if you can carry it in a carry on bag...You probably can. I just wouldn't go around with the bottles in hand.

FYI The resorts do sell some alcohol and also the HESS stations on property do too. Or you could just rent a taxi and go to the nearest shopping center...Might save money from the airport prices.

The "special rule" about Duty Free is that it is only for international travellers. And, at MCO at least (actually, I think everywhere in the US), only available on your way out.

Even if you were eligible to shop at the Duty Free store, you cannot shop there at your arrival airport.

if you are checking a bag you can put it in there. just double zip lock bag it and wrap it well with clothes so it is very protected.

Another option is just buy it at home and pack it in your checked luggage using a product like "Bottle Armor" just head to amazon and look around at all the options. The original has been in the Skymall catalog for year.

We use a grocery delivery - wegoshop they shop for everything and IMHO the fee is reasonable.

Generally we order cold breakfast foods for the room, cereal bagel etc, water, juice and milk. Snacks, fruit, raw veggies & hummus etc and beer & wine - they will also deliver alcohol. You will have to provide your ID via email or fax for beer/wine/alcohol and they will leave the delivery at bell services or arrange to deliver to your room if you want to see the fruits/veggies etc they select.

For us the $ we save on breakfast water and drinks and the convenience of having breakfast in the room while others are getting ready is worth the delivery fee.

garden grocer also gets good reviews here, delivers beer & wine but I don't know if they deliver alcohol.

Last cruise I took I was ordering mixers from the onboard shop and was going to buy a couple bottles of booze.

We got to talking about smuggling and rum runners and what not. So I tell my dad and stepmom about these bottles that look like shampoo but actually are food grade plastic and are used to put smuggled liquor in. So she dared me to try it. I bought them, filled one bottle with Vodka for me and one with Whiskey for my dad, and it worked ( I was fully aware that if I got caught I'd loose the booze the bottles the money I spent on both, and still have to buy liquor again on board but I thought it was funny even if I did lose money on the try).

I only used about a 1/3 of a bottle because I don't drink much but my dad did drink his. Not sure it's actually worth the hassle to 'smuggle' at least for me.

Anyhow I bought the liquor at home because I wasn't going to have a car in Seattle and wasn't going to be near a liquor store. I filled them to the top, double bagged them and put them on the plane in one state then they did take off and landing on two flights before they got to seattle then went through the security at the port 3 days after the start, they did not leak and arrived on board intact.

You might want to try this. Much better than traveling with a glass bottle in your suitcase. (although there are a fair number of liquors that now come in plastic and your brand may. Mine does not which is why I still use the smuggler bottles).

Most liquor that people usually drink is well within this category and if they are thinking they will need more than 5 liters of alcohol for a single vacation then at that quantity they can rent a car or get delivery. Most people would not be taking that much.

No way would I trust that. With the way luggage is handled you run the risk of ruining your bag, soaking your clothes and those of the people whose bags are around you. There was a post I think on the budget board a week or so ago where a woman's bag was ruined and her clothes soaked by formula apparently packed in someone else's luggage.
Op if you are thinking of ordering groceries or water some of the grocery delivery services can deliver alcohol. We got some beer and wine last time from garden grocer. If ou happen to be taking a cab or town car you can get them to stop at a store that sells alcohol.

I have taken liquor in my checked bag before with no issue. But.....I took precautions. I first wrapped the bottle in bubble wrap. That got wrapped in a towel. Then into a ziplock bag, and that all went into a larger plastic bag. The whole thing went in the middle of my bag, with stuff on top and beneath.
I wouldn't take more than one bottle in a bag though.

I always pack a bottle of rum and never have had a problem. I once checked 2 bottles from duty free (1 scotch, 1 wine) in nothing but a plastic bag (lost suit case) from Panama to MCO and it arrived w/o a problem! Although I wouldn't recommend the latter...EVER!

I got the booze before I got my suitcase!!
