I need a 5 person room either ground floor or with an elevator

I'm hoping somebody here can help me. We have always stayed at either Fort Wilderness (in an RV) or at Shades of Green. We have just now decided to try to book a Christmas trip for this year. Currently SOG is booked, and we're not bringing the RV.

We have 5 people, 3 adults, and 2 teenage boys. We will be renting an ECV for my father, and one of the teenagers uses a wheel chair part of the time. I need to find a room that will sleep five. But I need it to either be ground floor, or have an elevator. I also need to stay at the low end of the budget. It doesn't have to be fully handicapped accessible. We just need to be able to physically get to the room.

Caribbean Beach has 5 person rooms for $283 a night according to the website. Does anybody know if these are ground floor, or if they have an elevator?

Port Orleans Riverside is the same price. I think I remember reading a while back that the 5 person rooms were on the second floor, with no elevator. Does anybody know?

The next choice would be either 2 rooms, or a suite at All Star Music. Either of those may price us out of the trip.

I would appreciate any help. I also posted this on the resort board.

Thanks,
Donna

I have stayed at all star sports a few times and there are elevators at all the disney hotels I would find one that fits your needs and then 60 days before you leave do the online check in and request ground floor and close to elevator that way you will be covered if you stay at a lll start sport you will need two rooms together as they only hold 4 and even then they are small.

There are no elevators in either CBR or the Alligator Bayou section of POR (where the rooms for five are). But there are definitely first floor rooms for five, so if that's where you choose I would make sure request in during online check-in and to call in with the request.

That being said, although both POR and CBR have rooms for five, the fifth bed is a small little trundle bed that fits a small adult/child. Honestly with three adults, two teenagers, a ECV and a wheelchair I think it might be a bit tight. If you don't want to do the suite at All-Star Music what about two rooms at a value? It would be cheaper and there are elevators in each building.

As mentioned above, there are no elevators at CBR or in the AB section of POR; but you can have your reservation noted that you are using mobility devices and your party requires a first floor room for medical reasons. Make sure it's noted WHY you need the first floor room, so it's a priority request.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you everybody. I have read that the fold down bed is small. We are thinking of two possibilities with that. Either put that mattress on the floor and let one of the boys use it even if we put a pillow or something at the foot. Or bringing a twin sized air mattress and using that. I just need to legally be in a 5 person room.

I am so relieved to hear that there are 5 person ground floor rooms. I will make sure it is noted on the ressie that it is for medical reasons, and call to follow up.

We know it may be tight. I checked All Stars and Pop. CBR we're looking at $283 per night, two rooms at a value would start at $372. We're already way about double what SOG would cost, so I just don't know if we could swing that much more. I'm still going to try for SOG, but I need a back up ressie in case we can't get in there.

Have you thought about staying off site there would be more room and cheaper

Nope. My Mom stays on site, or she won't go. There are some health issues, and it is a must to be able to go back to the room to rest most days. This WDW trip is combined with a Universal trip. We've never been onsite there, but decided that we were not driving back and forth to a hotel this time. We are planning to do 3 days at the Royal Pacific, then switch to WDW.

Go with CBR as the rooms are bigger square footage wise (about 26 more sf) and will give you more floor space.

I understand that you do know that first aid is a great place to go rest if you need a break during the day.

I have heard that there are hotel rooms off site that is closer to the parks then the hotels on site but like you I need to stay on site for different resins too.

Thank you hopperfan, that is great info. I didn't know that. I just spoke with SOG. Not only are they booked for Christmas, but the waiting list is even full. Yikes! It looks like it is going to be CBR.

I am thinking that there is not going to be enough room for people sleeping on the floor and 2 mobility devices in the room every night. You will not be allowed to put the wheelchair or ECV outside the room at night (although there may be a charging area near the main building for the ECV). You may be able to ask to have the table and chair removed to give you some extra space.

What about a family suite at AoA? That would give you two rooms, (more space for wheelchair & ECV) and a tiny kitchenette too.

I called last night to request a ground floor room at POR for my I laws because they will have an ECV. The lady was very clear that they will do their best to accommodate the request but they can not guarantee anything. So if you absolutely must have a ground floor room or an elevator then you should book at a hotel that has elevators to the 5 person rooms. You are trying to go during the busiest week of the year, so there may be many people with special requests who already booked and they may not be able to accommodate what every one needs.
