We've been cleaning out our attic recently. The past 3 weeks when I put out some of the 'trash' from the attic (believe me, nothing good  ), I wake up in the morning, only to find most of it already gone....and this is before the trash truck comes through!:bounce: Heck, it was still daylight yesterday and I had a man stop and dig through the stuff:earseek: I know it SHOULDN'T bother me, but for some odd reason, it does!!:bounce:

Thats so funny. We had our spring cleaning garbage day recently where we could throw stuff out....we got rid of a vacuum cleaner and lawn mower (neither one worked) and before 6am they were gone (not from the garbage people either). If its free someone will take it.

LOL! :D Remember the thread about the good stuff found in other peoples trash about a week ago? Maybe it was one of US!!! :teeth:

Oh,I have a funny one,my husband intalls computer networks and he is always bringing home computers to repair. At one point point he had a lot of old cases and other parts that he did not need or were not working and he threw them out. This guy stops in front of my house picks whatever he wants ,rings the doorbell and aks if we were going to throw out a monitor as well ,you had to be there ,but, they way he asked he sounded like he was demanding a monitor. .I told him no and I closed the door ,I told my husband and we couldn't stop laughing for hours.

One time I threw out a broken halogen lamp. It was literally gone within seconds of me putting it out.

I admit to picking up "trash to treasures" myself. If you see a perfectly good piece of furniture tossed, how can you pass it up?

Just the other day a neighbor threw out one of those big fake ficus trees. I dragged it in, cleaned it up, and its now in my living room looking great!

We had an old couch and the buttons kept falling off, one by one. I kept the buttons in a ziplock bag thinking that I might eventually sew them back on, but that never happened.
Finally we took the old couch out to the curb. Next thing I knew, there was a pickup truck out there loading up the couch. I ran out and gave them the bag of buttons, too. :teeth:

That reminds me of the Christmas that we switched from an real tree to an artificial tree. We got the artificial one on sale after Christmas.

Well, when it came time to put out the real tree for the garbage pickup, my DH cut up the branches and put them in the artificial tree box at the curb. The branches were kind of sticking up out of the box and someone took it before the garbage man came!

I think they thought it was an artificial tree we were throwing away! Imagine their surprise when they got it home!!!;)

Now this is the thread for me...I love getting rid of trash! :)

This happens to me all the time, though anything that I think someone can use I donate. But who knows...some folks will just take junk. It doesn't bother me as long as they don't open my bags in my trash pails & make a mess.

When I first bought my house I put out sooo much junk -- really beat-up-old-nobody-would-want junk. This guy pulled up & very quickly loaded my junk into his pick up. He was gone before I could get to him. I wanted to tell him to wait a sec...I had more to put out, but he was gone.

The worst one was the Oreck vacuum I put out one night. I had no sooner put it out, when I saw a car snatched it up & pulled off. The Oreck was a real lemon...terrible...it spued the dust out into the air thru it's cloth bag as I vacuumed. YUCK! And the cloth bag would fill w/dust bunnies & was a terrible mess when I tried to change the paper bag. I had it repaired a couple of times & just gave up. Anyway, I guess whoever took it found out why I gave it up.

aks if we were going to throw out a monitor as well

We have a monitor that doesn't work and tried to put it out in the trash and the trashman wouldn't take it. Send that guy on over to my house, I'll let him have my broken monitor!:D

I run a daycare out of my home. We have lots of toys which can be seen from the street in our yard. The other day I finally was ready to depart with a big Little Tykes ride on tractor I've had for some time with a broken wheel. Knowing how my kids react, I took our three garbage cans and made a U shape with them and put the tractor inside the U so that none of the kids would see it and want to play with it again. So, we're outside, playing in my yard when a man comes walking up to my gate with his dog to ask me if I was throwing the tractor out! I wanted to say, "no, it's just there for decoration" but I didn't. I told him it had a broken wheel but he was welcome to it if he really wanted it. So, what does he do? He walks home with the broken tractor!

We have a couple of trucks which come down our street on a pretty regular basis. They are looking for anything aluminum which can be recycled. And, then there are the regular pickers - always looking for something they can't resist.

For a while, DH was putting the "good" garbage out so that it would be selected. We would have lots of discussions about this. I've always felt that if it's good enough, I'll donate it, but if it's not, it's garbage.

Oh well, to each his own!
