I miss the old Community Board

I just can't get over the fact that with the way things are in this country right now, in the world actually, that we have to "pretend" on this board that none if it is even happening and can't even mention the subjects.

We just have to go around with pixie dust swirling around our heads all the time like everything is perfect and fine. Like mindless little children following the rules because someone said so.



Oh, and for the record, the fact that the religious gospel threads are allowed to continue when there isn't supposed to be any religous discussion really annoys the heck out of me. Yet, mention Washington DC or any President, and poof or points.

I enjoyed the discussions about different types of religions. I enjoyed hearing others opinions of politics. That's how we learn.

I like to talk about finances, the economy & other challenging subjects. There isn't much challenging here at all anymore. I've tried the Budget Board, but they don't really want to hear it for the most part. They just want to talk about CVS & coupon codes.

My friends keep me here as does trip planning. There are some inane threads lately but then there always have been. The CB is different and I do miss a good debate but the DIS still has appeal or I wouldn't stick around.

The current CB is the old CB.

It's pretty much the way it was when I joined in 2001.

The only thing missing are the Yankee Candle threads.

Oh and a good old fashion Honeywolf thread.

I tried it there. I got points for pointing out that the credit card changes came because of Washington DC, not simply because the credit card company the person was complaining about wanted to do it.

And the "I'm in debt up to my eyeballs & having cars repo'd & bill collectors calling, yet I'm still taking my trip because I deserve it" drive to insane. I would surely get myself in lots of trouble. I want to talk with people who aren't snorting pixie dust.

Interesting thing happened today.. I was reading another moderated board (nothing to do with Disney - it was a health-related message forum where I was looking for some info for my cousin) and guess what?

Political posts are banned.. Guess it's not just the DIS that had issues with trying to keep people from being nasty while discussing politics..

I know these make me crazy too. At one time I used to post lots on the BB but then the "I deserve it even though I have to feed my kids food from the food bank" posts started and if I posted what I really thought, it would have been bye bye DIS.

And don't forget too because they deserve one so much a caring relative are giving them the trip.
I don't venture out too much from the CB. Sometimes I find interesting things on the BB. The family board can be a bit unnerving at times (I'm far from a perfect parent), I don't think the gays and lesbians have a use for me () and even though I own DVC, I feel inadequate there.
I'll stay here in the land of misfits instead.

Was it a specific health topic board you were on or was it a community type board?

For example, I can see why they would ban political topics on an arthritis board but not necessarily on a "community"-type generic topic board? That would be the equivilant of of posting a political post on the restaurant board here. KWIM?

I guess you would call it a "community" type - if I'm understanding your definition correctly.. It's not one "specific" health condition, but rather many different kinds that are discussed.. Someone had started a thread about proposed healthcare reform and the impact on the elderly, and it was "locked" - with a notation that political posts aren't allowed..

If you want some political, socialogical and idealogical debate (and more) with some of the Disney community try the laughingplace.com boards. They are more Disneyland oriented but like the Disneyland section here, their WDW section is getting bigger. Toward the bottom of the boards is "World Events"
That is the place to go for those that miss the old days here.
