I miss the old Community Board

A separate forum was suggested but it fell on deaf ears. What is happening now is becoming scary, yet we cannot comment on it.
What is scary exactly? The owners of this board have a right to make rules as they see fit. Banning controversial topics from discussion, and discussions that got very ugly for that matter, is their right. The same as you have a right to choose what boards you visit and post on.

If you want to talk politics or religion, why not go to a political or religious message board.

I just looked in on this thread. Just for the fun of it, I did a search on the OP about other posts. Of the 100 last posts by the OP, 98 of them were in this forum (and two on restaurants).

It is my understanding that DisBoards is primarily for discussion of various aspects of Disney, and that the Community Board is designed for those itejms which do not apply specifically to any other forum.

It is my opinion that a person who only posts to the Community Board is not really a member of the Disney Community and should probably be on a Social Networking or othe board. For example, I am very active on at least nine other forums, and my posts here are fewer than five percent of my total posts.

now isn't THIS what we are missing!!! some good debate topics! Lets debate who in here are TRUE members of the disney community and who has the right to judge that!

Do you really think things are "nice" around here now? I do see a lot of fluff posts and those are kept nice but I have been shocked at the nastiness in some of the most simple posts. I would much rather see those types of responses relegated to the religious and political threads instead of simple, everyday posts where people get their hackles up over essentially nothing.

This shows how opinions vary greatly here on the CB. Some people are saying it's "dull", "boring", that they miss the debates, that it's too nice, etc.

And others say that things are as nasty as ever in some threads.

I have an idea...if you like nice, read the nice threads. If you like heated, read the heated threads. (Here's a hint: to find the "heated" threads, just look for the threads more than 5 pages long.;)) No snark intended, I swear!:dance3:

My opinion about the CB today compared to when I first joined the Dis in 2002: like it fine then and now. If I get the urge to get in a political or religious debate, the internet is FULL of those kinds of message boards. Very easy to find. I really love the Disney stuff, that's why the Dis still has me glued here.

Check out the thread. You will see a sarcastic, demeaning reply to a statement. It is this kind of disrespect that is the reason there are no more political threads aymore.

I don't know that I would agree Cheshire. Like I said, I do not post on most of the trip planning boards because I simply have no immediate plans. I do try to post on a few boards where I feel like my experience may be helpful, but the majority of my posts are on here (although I don't consider Wish Trippers to be ot even if it is on the community board.) I find that I like this community more than many I've been to. I like the pace and I like the people (well, normally.)

I've gone on record as saying I miss the political and religious threads. Its not the "heat and snark" that I miss - its the content. I really enjoyed discussing these topics (some of them anyway - if I didn't like the topic I just didn't read or respond) with people from all over the country and the world; people who weren't necessarily political or religious - at least not enough to seek out those kinds of boards. The appeal was that this isn't a political or religion board - simple a board about one of my favorite places that has members with all types of diverse opinions.

Once the disBoard moderators got their candidate elected, they changed the policy so criticism of their candidate cannot happen.

If a peaceful, fair board was what they wanted, they would have changed the board policy in early 2008. But no, they waited until after the election when their guy got elected. The timeline tells the truth about the DisBoard moderators.

Also, after the change in policy, I don't see Steve in Brooklyn posting anymore. It was almost like he was just on the board to promote the moderators views.

Eh, this is most likely the fourth or more such thread on the topic...I post and read the CB significantly less than in the past and it's not just because the poilitical threads are outlawed but because the people that posted on them have also reduced their time here which IMHO makes the CB a remnant of what it was, because those posters also posted on other threads which added to the flavor of the CB...but you have to admit, it must be a hell of a lot easier to be a Mod or an WM on the CB which I believe was the main priority.

Or maybe they were hoping that the rude and ugly debates would end after the election was over, and when they didn't that's when they decided they'd had enough. I don't think they changed the rules just because Obama won.

The CB was, at one time, a vibrant community with different characters who had differing opinions. It was interesting, informative and sometimes volitile. As with any community you had those that stirred the pot and caused problems. They were tolerated for a period of time and then there were major "cleanups/bannings" that took some of the bad but a whole lot of good. The board became very vanilla, slow moving, predictable and boring. I don't visit as often but do still enjoy popping in on occasion.

I have to agree with CF. The DISBoards were created for people who wanted to talk about their experiences at WDW and/or do a little trip planning. After all, the owners of the DISBoards run a travel agency that caters solely to WDW. I'd have to hazard a guess that the CB was created for those few who wanted a place to talk amongst themselves without taking the WDW threads off topic.

I would think that the CB isn't a big draw or money-maker for this travel agency. It falls to the parks boards, resort boards, transportation boards, etc. to help the owners create enthusiasm for their services. It is simply not realistic in this economy to expect that a for-profit business would invest the time and money on a dead-weight board for the few who:
  1. Post almost exclusively on that free board and
  2. Have absolutely no intention of ever using Dreams Unlimited as their travel service for their trip to WDW.
I'm happy that there's even a CB around for me to read and occassionally post on. If I don't like the way it's run then I can go elsewhere. The internet's a big place and there are lots of other social networking boards out there.

Please explain why they didn't change the policy prior to the election. Spring - Summer 2008 was an Obama bash fest on the Community board lead by 3-5 loco disers.

Posters on both sides left the DIS after the rule change.

Charade doesn't post here as often
Dawn doesn't post here as often
Breezy doesn't post here as often
Loco doesn't post here anymore
The man that asked kids who their parents were voting before giving them Halloween candy(if they said Obama they didn't get candy:rolleyes:) doesn't post here anymore

I see Dawn here alot. What is there here to post in. If you are a political poster you go where you can post what's important to you. I'm guessing they went to where they can post what they want to post about

What is happening politically has become scary and both sides should have the ability to comment on it!

A debate board would allow that and those who are not interested don't have to go there. There are boards here that I have never visited for that reason, just not interested in them.

As one who stayed out of them I'll say this. The "debates" weren't really debates. They were more like "I'm right, you're wrong! Nyah-nyah!"

Debate forums from other sites have rules. One of such made sense. That is, if you made a claim such as "The majority of widgets are deathtraps" you had to provide proof other then the fact that a widget killed a relative 20 years ago.

If they'd would establish rules and guidelines so that issues were discussed rationally then there's be a lot less hostility.

We do have the ability to comment on what is going on, just not here.

There are plenty of other places to have these discussions. Why do people feel they MUST take place on the DIS as well?

:thumbsup2:rolleyes:
I started on DISboards when I worked at TDS and after my first trip to WDW. I don't visit the trip planning boards as often because I love coming to the CB. Does that make me not "DISboard" material??
And... I dont' think its right to 'research' what other posters are doing.. that's a bit creepy in my opinion, but CF, sadly, isn't the first to do it.

I mean, really... why do you (you, as in those who care) care what other posters care about?? :confused3

I think what I liked about reading some (not all) of the political threads and religious topics was we, as posters of the DIS, got to "know" each other. It was like talking to *friends* or aquaintences.
Anyway, I miss that here. If I go somewhere where I don't know people at all, it is a bit creepy and scary to me. But here, it was comfortable. While I don't like the nasty and mean stuff that can happen on hot topics, they didn't all go that way. And those, I enjoyed.
