I miss Bill Knapp's AuGratin Potatoes! Recipe??

I drove past what used to be the site of the local Bill Knapp's restaurant and really wanted some of their AuGratin potatoes.

Anyone else miss Bill Knapp's? We didn't eat there a lot but it was close and our children enjoyed it. I went there for every birthday until I was about 12.

Here you go:


Bill Knapp's Au Gratin Potatoes


6 cups potatoes, about 7 medium -- diced, boiled, chill
2 cups milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 t. salt
1/4 cup flour
1 t. paprika
1/4 t. pepper
1 t. instant chicken bouillon granules
6 oz Velveeta cheese

Prepare potatoes. Melt butter in large saucepan. Add flour and blend.
Gradually add the milk and cook until thick. Add remaining ingredients and
stir until cheese melts. Add potatoes and stir well. Pour into a greased
casserole dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350 F. for 25-30 minutes. until top is
browned.
Note: for best results use whole milk and butter. No substitutes. Can top
with buttered soft bread crumbs.

Never heard of the place before, but the recipe sounds yummy. Will need to give it a try!

we use to love to eat there. The kids could get a regular meal(not fries and chicken nuggets) with vegtables and have table service at a great price. Did they just go out in Orlando or did they go out every where. I know we had eaten at other ones on vacation, but its been years since I've seen one.

I know they all pulled out of WEst Michigan. I never knew they were anyplace but MI.

All of their restaurants closed.

I believe they were in MI, OH, IN and FL.

They started to go "down hill" here a little and we tried to go there one day and they were closed.

Someone could make a fortune if they could buy the old recipes. There are certain things that were very popular.
