There is a slight chance that we will move to London this summer. I think the housing is close to the US Embassy. Are there any suggestions for schools ( which will be paid for by my Husbands employer). DS will be starting 1st Grade and DD will start Kindergarten next year.

TIA
Robin

Congratulations. Look forward to seeing over here

Hi,
The US Embassy is right in the middle of Central London, I doubt many (if anybody) on this board would live in the area. We have "state" (non-fee paying) schools and "private" or "public" schools which are fee paying schools, I'm guessing your husbands employer will be paying for the latter?
My eldest goes to a good state school in the suburbs so I havent used this website but www.privateschools.co.uk might give you an idea of what is available.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck.

Good luck on your possible re-location. A good website for you to consult would be the Independent Schools Council - it contains lots of information about how to choose a private school and what admissions requirements might be in place. It also has detailed inspection reports, which are well worth reading.

The US Embassy is in Mayfair. The Under School at Westminster would be one of my top choices for your DS. There is further information here. The journey time by car would probably be 10-15 minutes.St Paul's Cathedral School might be another option - since it is co-educational it will cater for your DS as well as DD in the pre-prep department. I'm not sure how far it is from the US Embassy, but it wouldn't be more than 5 miles.

We relocated from the UK to the USA and finding out about education was one of the most challenging things, as we all know how important it is for you to find the right school for your children. Local knowledge is probably the way to go - if you can speak to others who have done the move in the past it would help. Good luck :)

Hope you have a great time planning your relocation :)

As for schooling are you happy for the children to go to a school here using our schooling system or did you want a US schooling system? There are several schools in London for International students and they do offer US schooling. I guess it depends how easy it is for the children to change when you go back to the US as schooling here seems so different.

I agree - if the move is temporary, then I would stick to an international school. I interpreted your post as it being a permanent relocation. :)

I can't offer any advice but wanted to say good luck with your move :thumbsup2

Good Luck planning your relocation:)
