Looks like I need more sleep now! Please excuse goofy spelling errors...new to this whole discussion world but hooked already and everyone's helpful info and tips have made all the difference in the world. Being from Chicago area we don't get to WDW very often due to travel cost, but wanted to fit it in this year. Just wish I were more confident about summer crowds.

Hi Fin Fan, and welcome to the DIS! :)

I'm sure people will offer you their opinion of summer crowds, I can give you mine. We went in early August one year, and thought the crowds to be on the light side. We never waited longer than 20 minutes or so on any ride, and the headliner rides, one can always use FastPass. However, its terribly hot and humid in August, and we took advantage of Early Entrys to the parks (for guests who stay on Disney property), left the park in the hot noon-day sun, and would come back in the late afternoon/early evening.

I would go again in the summer, although it might not be my first preference. The wonderful part of being there in the summer is that everything is open later, and their are more options with the paradess and firework displays.

Have fun planning, and keep reading! These boards are a great source of information.

Thanks Snoopy...I know we will enjoy no matter what, and these boards are SO helpful, almost as if you really goofed up if you don't enjoy with all the expertise at your fingertips.Have the parks ever closed due to capacity? Wouldn't that be a downside to staying on-site? We may not even enter a park 'till 3p.m. or so on the 4th...but have heard rumors of folks being turned away. Even tho we're from Chicago the heat doesn't bother us...I'm really a misplaced Floridian! ;)

Hi,

We're neighbors, I live in warrenville, and the kids go to school in Naperville. I have heard that a few times that once the parking lot is full they will close the park. But I think that is for guests who drive and are not staying on property. I think you can get in if you are at any of the Disney Resorts even if they close the park. I have never heard of all the parks being closed so if one is go to one of the other four. We always go in the summer, it's hot there but it's hot here too.

We always go in the summer when the kids are out of school. Disney is ready for the crowds.
Remember the water parks fill up quick on hot days, so don't plan a morning at the park, & BB after lunch. It will be filled to capacity. With 4 theme parks & long hours of operation, the crowds are dispursed over a larger area & time.
I used to live near Chicago, many moons ago...

We were at the MK for the 4th last year and the park was "closed" due to the crowds to all but those staying on-site.Being on-site guarentees you access to any park, even if it is at capacity.Of course,we realized after entering that just because we COULD get in didn't mean we SHOULD have gone in .Extremely crowded and just about crazy!I will visit in the summer again (can't take the kids out of school) but not on a major holiday EVER again!
