without cheating! :)

My dh was up in the attick when all of a sudden the kids both started screaming. His internal heart defibrillator shocked him for the first time ever since he got it last November. Five seconds later it shocked him again. Then again. I ran to the bottom of the attick stairs and he was just getting to the top and I saw him get shocked again. It looked like someone kicked him. He flew back almost a foot. In the next second he literally dove head first down the stairs. Luckily I was able to sort of block his fall.

The shocks quit as soon as he got downstairs. The paramedics were there in just a few minutes, stabilized him, and took him to the ER. The ER had to call a rep for his ICD device to come out and read it and tell us what was going on.

To make a long story short, his heart rate got up to 180 and that triggered the shocks. The device should not have gone off at that range. After a few hours they gave him a pain rx and let him go home. He's a bit sore today, but otherwise feeling fine. He thought he was going to work today. I told him I was going with him to see the electrophysiologist and then would take him by the office. Why are DH's so stubborn at times? ;)

The only good thing about last night, other than the fact that we now know for sure that his device works, is that tempted as I was, I didn't cheat. :) We stopped at Arby's and dh had a sandwiche. I wasn't about to fuss at him for cheating. ;) I got a 5 star club and was so tempted to eat the whole thing, but I waited until we got home and took the bread off.

While I was waiting for his rx to be filled the chips and candy were SCREAMING at me. I was good and got some Russell stover sugar free turtles and some shelled sunflower seeds. I had one serving of the turtles and put the sunflower seeds aside for a snack sometime.

I was so proud of myself for staying strong under such stress. :) Unfortunately, I had gained a lb this morning. It may have something to do with not eating until nearly midnight last night and weighing just 5 hours later. I'm hoping that lb will be gone again tomorrow. :)

WOW!! So glad to hear your DH is doing alright! I understand about stress, and how the evils come calling for you (thats what I call the bad food!) Although, under those circumstances, it is easy to say it is the least of your worries!

Prayers for you and your DH,
Michelle

I'm telling you, the pharmacy/drug stores are the kiss of death!! We had our first emergency room trip with dd (3) last week and I was stressed out and had to go fill that perscription. Sitting there with nothing to do for the hour while they fiddled with the insurance really about killed me. Do you know that in your typical walgreens there are like 8 aisles of BAD food products??? I didn't, but I do now! Luckily I bought a low-carb chocolate bar and a magazine and then glued my butt to the pharmacy waiting area.

Stay out of the drug stores people!!! They are the kiss of death!

So glad your dh is going to be fine :)

Lisa, I am so glad your DH is okay, that must have been very scary for all of you!!

I am glad you were able to get through it without cheating, but I certainly wouldn't have held it against you if you had!! :)

Hugs Lisa!

Oh my!! What a scary thing to have happen! I'm glad your DH is ok. {{{Hugs}}}

Congratulations on staying strong in the face of all that stress! I think I would have caved right in and devoured the whole sandwich! I think you are right about that pound, it was probably caused by eating late. It should be gone next time you weigh.

I'm glad that DH is ok! I'm so proud of you for staying strong! You've proven that your eating habits are becoming a way of life.

Good for you LisaTx! I don't know if I could have stuck with it under that stress.
Wishing the best to you and your DH.
Cheering you ON!
Margaret

That sounds so scary!!! I am so glad that your dh is ok. He's a lucky man to have loving wife like you. :O) and I'm sure you can say the same about him! It's so good that you didn't cheat. Sometimes when we are stressed, the first thing we reach for is food. Way to go. :O)

Lisa, I would have been scared to death. I'm glad your DH is feeling better. Only a man would want to go into work after something like that!

Good going on the will power. If you can abstain from cheating through stress, you will reach your goal in no time!!!

Thank you for all of the encouraging words. :)

We're both doing much better today. After a three hour wait at the Dr, we went for Mexican food and had fajitas and salad. I've always been a stress eater, so this has been a big hurdle for me. :)

How absolutely terrifying, Lisa. I'm so glad that Trey is alright, after all.
