I Made him go and he loved every minute of it...Trip Report, 6/13-6/20 UPDATED: 9/29

You know what June 12th means? It means I haven’t sleep properly in 4 days. I’ve checked and rechecked and triple checked my bank account to make sure I could really afford this trip. I’ve spent 3 days cleaning my house, because who wants to come home to a dirty house? I’ve been on the DIS every free second I’ve had. EVERY SECOND. My DFi is pissed because I spend all my free time on the computer and he can’t look up world cup information. He spends the better part of the afternoon trying to tell me he needs to watch at least one soccer game everyday. Please. This is Disneyworld. Soccer. Disneyworld. Soccer. Disneyworld. Well, I know which one I picked.
Then it was 5:15pm. And it was time.

**Cue scary background music**

It was time to take the cat to my mothers.
This should be a SWAT team operation. I mean really. Olly Rock (Olly for short) is our little prince. He has his own set of dishes for crying out loud (okay they’re plastic and cheap, but I don’t eat off them!) He has his own toy box. We buy him special food and expensive litter that really doesn’t make my apartment smell.
And obviously, this all needs to go to my mothers. Because he can’t be without any of it. So the dishes, food, toys go in the car. Steve dumped the litter box and was washing it out outside as I put the harness on the cat. (don’t ask)
Yes. This was one of the most interesting 45 minutes of my life. Both Steve and I were severely scratched carrying him from the house to the car (he’s an inside cat, we live on a main road) by severely, I mean we healed just in time to get scratched and bit again on the way home. He’s freaking out in the car. I should have gotten gas before we left, but who thinks of silly things like gas? Cat at a gas station? Hope everyone’s got a mental picture, because there wasn’t time to take a real one. Once back inside the car and it is in motion however, Olly becomes a dog. Presses his face up against the window, stares at everything driving by. Climbs around. Steve took his eyes off of him for 3 Seconds….

Yeah, it’s hard to drive standard when there’s a cat at the petal.

After many meows and ows, we reach my mother’s (cue more scary music) house. Once inside the house, and the leash and harness were off, he took off. To hide. And meow. And look so sad that even I, considered, just for a second, staying home because he looked so miserable. He hid under the computer desk for the hour we were there. And Meowed. Just so you have a picture, here’s my cat:

Isn’t he so precious? If felt like the cruelest kitty-momma. Then I said we had to go because I couldn’t take it anymore. And so we left, after promising my sister that if she took extra-good care of him we would get her a special present.

And so we headed home to pack. And pack. Oh, and then pack another suitcase. Apparently it’s a good thing I bought the whole luggage set, because we realized we were over-packers (of course we realized this later). 4 suitcases for us. 2 of us. 7 days. In my defense, the super-huge suitcase was 3/4ths empty. I’m also an over-shopper. Oh, plus I had a pink bag for toting around the parks. Pink with Lime Green. It’s noticeable from a distance. it’s also waterproof, which is why I bought it in the first place. Finally, Steve’s mom calls us around 9. We walk upstairs (CONFESSION: we rent our apartment from his mom. It’s cheap and convenient. However, I don’t particularly like it.) so his mother can give us $100 to “spend on ourselves” as if the whole trip wasn’t about that in the first place. She reminds us to get something special for Kaylie. (who wasn’t coming because she would have missed her last week of school and because she started crying hysterically when we told her we were flying. She begged us not to take her. *sigh* she’s only 5, she’s coming next time, crying or not.)

So we go back downstairs, except it was strange not to be met at the door by the cat. It’s late now, so Steve says it’s time to go to bed. To sleep. Please, like I’m going to sleep.

I’M GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!!

So, he slept. I did some last minute weather.com checking. Alberto was awfully close. My mother had said something about lots of rain. I don’t get out much, I don’t have time to check the weather in my own city, much less other cities. I got a little nervous, but some DIS friends said that the weather wasn’t too bad, just rain. So, feeling ready for any adventure (mostly because it didn't involve going to work), I snuggled down in bed and put the Disney vacation video in.

And counted down the minutes, because if you think I slept, you're crazy!

Up Next: I was gonna cruise with the top down…

There are two things I NEED in a trip report to satisfy my soul!!!! They are the Truth & a Laugh! :thumbsup2
Tara you 'hit the nails on the heads"! Great addition, you have me hooked!
I can't wait for the next installment! ;)

Hey - great report so far - very funny!

I can totally relate about the cat abandonment issues. My cat can guilt trips us so bad that I always say I'll never leave him again!! I guess I keep forgetting my promise!

Looking forward to reading the rest.

Disney is so expensive, I always have to think and rethink what I can afford. Glad the cat made it to mom's safely. Can't wait till you get to Disney :)

Thanks for posting.

Great report! I can't wait for the rest! I totally understand what you mean about the cat. Mine always freaks out when we put her in the car. And I mean freaks!

I love your report! It's like a good book I can't get ebnough!

Chapter 3: I was gonna cruise with the top down…

So yes. We’re actually leaving in this part. I fell asleep exactly 1 hour and 20 minutes before the alarm went off. Mostly because I put in the Cinderella Bonus DVD (which is all about the 9 old men and Mary Blair, etc etc.) I’ve watched it a million times, which doesn’t make it that hard to fall asleep when you’re already exhausted but fighting sleep.
It was 4:15. in the morning. I am normally AT work by this time, so I was fine with the situation. Steve however, wasn’t so fine…

“uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”
*Clunk* (that’s Steve trying to hit the snooze button but knocks the entire alarm clock on the floor)
“uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

Me, with my hour and 20 minute nap, I’m dancing around the house. WE ARE GOING ON A PLANE AND WE ARE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD.
Do you know how hard it is to watch everyone else get on planes and you have to stay at the airport? Everyday? I told him if he didn’t get his butt up and get some of this luggage out to the car I was going to leave his suitcase and him behind, because I was NOT missing this flight.
Fat chance about missing the flight. We checked our bags in 2 hours early. After checking our bags with my Southwest friend Gail We headed upstairs to security.

I laugh when people tell me about waiting a long time to get through security. The longest wait time I’ve ever seen at Albany International Airport is 15 minutes. And that’s when the queue line is full and the line is across the bridge to the parking garage. Of course I work there, so if you think we waited in any line, we didn’t.
We made a beeline for the Coffee Beanery (MY JOB) mostly so I could get free coffee and breakfast for us. Oh, and rub it in again that while I’m here early too, I’m GOING ON VACATION. HAHAHA.
My best friend Jill was working and she made me superb hot chocolate. I don’t drink coffee. I know, I know, I work at a coffee shop and I don’t drink coffee. My paycheck doesn’t come in coffee beans, folks.
We strolled down to our gate, C2. I knew it was C2. I didn’t even check the board. Because flight 1153 non-stop service to Orlando leaves out of gate C2 EVERY morning on time at 7:30am.
So we got in line. The only thing I hadn’t done was asked one of the people I’m friends with at Southwest how many people were on the flight. So we got in line (because there’s nothing better to do anyway) and I ate my muffin and Steve ate his Bacon egg and cheese on a bagel and read The Post.
Turns out this was stupid because there were…count them….76 people on my flight. Including us. I could have been at the end of the non-existent C line and still gotten a window seat. But hey, I’m on a plane next to the window and we’re taking off………….

TO FLORIDA.

I napped. Steve read the Post some more, then did 12 Sudokus. FINALLY (okay, like 3 hours later) we arrive in Orlando international airport. The stewardess says before we get off the plane “it’s 78 with light showers.” The forecast said that most of the rain had been north (and indeed it had…we flew overtop/through it.) So with a forecast like 78 with light showers, we’re thinking that HEY the rain is almost over and we can drive around in our CONVERTIBLE rental car. With the top down.

I know. You guys are screaming DISNEY HAS FREE TRANSPORTATION. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?! Let me explain. I wait for shuttle buses EVERYDAY when I go to work. I didn’t want to on vacation. Plus, there’s an additional reason you’ll learn on days 2 – 4.

Yeah. We get our luggage and head out to meet the shuttle that will take me to my Cherry red Convertible. It’s POURING. POURING. The shuttle bus driver had to even drive slow because he couldn’t see.

I looked at Steve on the bus and said, “well, I was gonna put the top down but…” He just rolls his eyes. My converting him to Disneyaholic is blowing up in my face and we haven’t even GOTTEN there yet.
We rented our car from Thrifty. No hassles, except they have some dude that his sole purpose is to go and get your car in the rain so you don’t have to. And he wants tips. We walked to the car, because contrary to popular belief, I don’t melt.

And now we’re off. To the happiest place on earth. Except we can’t even see the road, so we have to pull over for awhile…

Next Up: Are we here? Are those the DISNEYWORLD ARCHES? I couldn’t tell you, I can’t see three feet in front of me because it’s raining.

WOW this is getting more and more interesting. We're not taking ME either because you hav to leave your resort like 3 hours early. What are you doing getting on my southwest flight! Just kidding, did you guys have that crazy awake guy who talks really fast? Although I'm going to Disney World, I sometimes find that he is just to perky when I got up at 2 in the morning to catch my flight! :goodvibes

Tara -- You are an awesome writer! I LOVE your TR! Am going to subscribe so I know when you add a chapter. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I'm reading your intro and it so sounds like me and my boyfriend. Except he's been to WDW. Anyways, I told him I wanted to go and he's like "let's go to Universal, its more fun." :furious: Anyways, I booked the trip and the plan tickets and all that and then I started to think... omg what if he is only going so I won't be mad at him for not going. I asked him and he said he wanted to go.

I found out though, that all those tv shows on the Travel Channel and History Channel and all that on WDW and how it works and all that made him wanna go. So I'm excited!

Hey - I LOVE your report b/c I feel like it's us since we live in the Capital Region too - I love knowing all of the areas you are talking about. And we always go to the Coffee Beanery before our flight - so for our next trip over labor day to Virginia, I'll have to look for you!

Also, I know what you mean about Great Escape - we got season passes our first year here and never got them again. I like Great Escape but it doesn't take much to get bored of it quickly. And it's NOTHING like WDW.

"Great trip report. I can't wait to read the next chapter.

hugs
