I Made Eagle Scout

Congrats to the OP! That takes a lot of dedication! WTG!

Banzai, may I ask what your professional aspirations are? Just curious.

As for this comment...

Congrats to the OP. You should be proud of your accomplishments.

As a leader, perhaps you can join your fellow scouts in reversing the discriminatory practices of the BSA. I think the scouts do some great things but lots of kids don't get a chance to participate. For example, just this week the executive board of our synagogue took a vote on whether or not to allow the formation of a troop. It was voted down unanimously because of the discrimination issue. As a result, lots of young boys in our congregation won't have the opportunity to join a local troop.

Sorry to get on my soapbox. I think the boy scouts are a great organization in every way except this one. My DD is a girl scout and loves every minute of it.

You do know that there is controversy regarding GS and Planned Parenthood, right? That is to say no organization is perfect. I have been involved in GS for years and I have many issues with the organization, but I refuse to let it get in the way of doing what is best for the kids. JMO, of course.

Absolutely. I do know about the Planned Parenthood issue. Given the controversy, I would certainly understand if a religious organization that opposed abortion would refuse to host a GS troop and I would support that decision (even if I didn't share their view). The BS issue with homosexuality is another example of this. Our synagogue does not discriminate based on sexual orientation and therefore chooses not to host an organization that does.

Again, I am not saying there is anything wrong with the Boy Scouts or what they do. I think scouting is a great thing for boys and girls alike. I just disagree with BSA on the discrimination issue. And don't forget, it was an Eagle Scout who sued the BSA after being fired from his troop for being gay. Apparently he was good enough to do all the hard work and committment necessary to earn the highest rank but he wasn't good enough to help lead up and coming scouts.

Congrats! All your hard work paid off.....it will come in handy in your future. I have a friend in Human Resources in a company, who says that given the choice of 2 equally qualified candidates, the Eagle Scout gets his vote.
DS is a Life Scout........one more step to go!!

Congrats, it takes a lot of hard work and time but is really worth it. Our son is an Eagle Scout and also both my brothers. I guess you can say it is a family tradition for us. Great job!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! I have 2 nephews with the honor, and a third who's almost there. I admire your hard work, for I know how much you've had to do to obtain this rank. Great job!!
