from Le Cellier and while the ingredients were a bit pricey and it wasn't the easiest recipe...

IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD! I also made pretzel rolls which took forever but was worth it. Not 100% the same but it gave me a little taste of my second home.:cloud9:

Has anyone else ever tried this?

I make it once or twice a year, it's always a hit. Wegmans makes a very good pretzel roll so I always pick those up to go with it.

We make the soup once or twice a year at home too. It's a nice reminder of WDW

Yep. I've made the pretzel rolls, too. (Not the recipe in the list on this forum, I just use a basic pretzel recipe and shape them into breadsticks instead of the traditional pretzel shape.)

It is very tasty and if we get one last cold snap before summer, I might make it again before the fall. :)

We made the soup last year. When we figured out the price, we did try to economize. Taste was there but not the texture. Thanks to Costco, we should be able to tackle the real thing. We have a bakery that makes the pretzel rolls so I think I'll leave those to them!

With the way this winter is going, you should have the opportunity to make it again! :confused3

Can you please share the recipe? This is one of our favourite things to eat at WDW.

We've made the soup a few times and thought it was every bit as good as the real thing. We also didn't need to plan 180 days ahead of time to eat it.;)

Allears.net has recipes posted for LOTS of Disney dishes, which is where I got this recipe from. We also love this soup and make it at least a half dozen times thoughout the winter.

Updated Recipe October 2010

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients:

5 cups milk, warmed
½ pound bacon
10 tablespoons butter
1 cup celery
2 each red onions, finely chopped
1 ½ cups flour
1 quart chicken stock
1 pound cheddar cheese, shredded
To taste – kosher salt
To taste – freshly ground black pepper
1 ½ teaspoons Tabasco sauce
3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
12 ounces slightly warm ale

Method of Preparation:

1. Slowly heat milk.
2. Brown the bacon first, then render until crisp.
3. Add the butter and melt.
4. Add celery and onions, cook until translucent.
5. Add flour and mix thoroughly to form a roux.
6. Add chicken stock and simmer for three minutes.
7. Add warm milk and stir vigorously to thicken.
8. Cook out roux until thickened (it should not have a starchy taste).
9. Reduce heat to low, add cheese, and stir until melted.
10. Season with kosher salt, pepper, Tabasco, and Worcestershire sauce.
11. Just prior to serving, add warm ale.
12. Garnish with cooked bacon and fresh chives.

Cook's note: When re-heating soup, do not bring to a boil, as it will break down.

We made it for the first time this weekend and it was awesome. We used the recipe from allears.net and also made pretzel bread sticks (actually more trouble than the soup). We are looking forward to getting some of the real thing to go <crosses fingers> when we are at EPCOT in May.

Which bakery makes the pretzel rolls? I live near you and would love to know...

I found that the pretzel rolls were MUCH more time and effort than the soup as well.

It was so nice to do this, especially as my next trip is so far away. Anything I can do to keep myself going through the wait is a gift!
