My eldest DD (7) just won an achievement award and during the Easter break she wanted to keep doing homework. I ripped it up and told her to go out and play !!! She was getting brainwashed!
We always sneak off the last week of school year early (with a permission letter - as they get older an dhave real exams you cant do it --- so dont worry now!)
Our kids have enough time in their lives when they need to grow up --- let them be children first.... I think that was the whole idea of Walts in the first place.
Your kid could get sick for a couple of days and miss school anyway --- or just be tired and not get any value --- trust me it wont do their future any harm....
Sure if you were irresponsible and took them out all the time its an issue - but you know the limits so dont feel guilty ..... who's love you want more teacher or your kids !!!

It is unbelievable that a teacher would expect that much homework out of an 8-year-old! What a shame! Pretty much every year I have at least one student who goes to DL during the school year and I just ask that they write some journal thoughts about their trip and share when they get back. Most of the time, the parents let me know well enough in advance and will ask for some work for their child to do while traveling there. This year I had a student go in Oct. and the other boys and girls loved hearing about his adventures! (Of course, as a BIG Disney fan myself, I also love hearing their journals!
