I loved Judy Blume books growing up too. Cool that she's still writing Fudge books! :) One day I'll have to check out the adult ones you're talking about. :)

Cool. My kids used to love Judy Blume. I see in my 10 year old is interested.

I was just rearranging all of my books, because my friend built me a new bookshelf. I found the book Summer Sisters, it's a really good one for adults, if you haven't read it yet!:D

I loved all the Judy Blume books as a child. I read Summer Sisters and loved it! I am going to look for Smart Women next. I didn't know there was another adult book.

I read WIFEY..along time ago( probably before I should have..but it probably didn't mean anything at that time..except..to say that I had read it!:p

I remember reading Judy Blume in middle school, and I also remember it was a great big deal to read Forever. I didn't realize she wrote adult books, I may just have to check into them.

LOL Tiggerlover- I know it was such a big deal to read Forever and the funniest thing is if you go to ANY library and get the book it will automatically fall to the "scandalous" pages!! lol :)

I just read my 7 yr old DD Tales of a fourth grade nothing this summer
She really enjoyed it- I remember it being one of my favorite books. We may have to get double fudge -santa are you listening.

Dd (8) teacher read one of the fudge books to the class and my daughter was hooked. Got a set of J. Blume titles on Amazon and she can't put them down!!!

I was waiting for someone to mention "Forever"! I bought that in 8th grade and read it in one night. I loaned it to a friend, who loaned it to a friend, etc.----15 GIRLS LATER, it comes back to me with the cover worn off! But it took less than a month--once a girl started that one, she didn't stop until it was finished!;)

I actually didn't care for summer sisters.. just not like her style, and it wasn't that great of a plot...too campy, and predictable.. to me it was one of her worst books.

I learned everything I needed to know when I read Forever, when I was say, 13...... I was the one who had Forever... I think there was a permanent crease on page 85 (or whatever)

I read all of her materials but realize the more popular ones Are you there God, Blubber, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, etc.. were all written in the mid-late 70's.... so unfortunately they are kind of dated.

I loved Tiger Eyes.. that was a really nice one.

Wifey is an interesting book of hers as well.

I have to disagree with you, Cindy. I recently reread all the "Fudge" books because my kids were reading them. they didn't seem dated at all. there's nothing in them overwhelmingly "70's". in fact, although the original Fudge book came out in 1972, the most recent was 1990.

the original "Fudge" book, "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing", takes place when Peter is in 4th grade and Fudge is 3 years old. the new book, "Double Fudge", takes place when Peter is in 7th grade. if anything, the most recent book is the most "dated" -- there are references to using the computer, and believe it or not, Harry Potter makes an appearance in the sotryline.

Well are you there God, talks about Sanitary belts, and separate napkins... when did they go out? Early 70's? (I don't remember them, for that matter... )

Deenie talks about the old rigid sciolosis neck braces... the technology for that now is just amazing... plus I remember them talking about using a quarter for the bus fare... when was 25 cents a bus fare? 1974?

Blubber talks about making a new, cool costume.... a Big Bird Costume.. that would date that book as well. Now which self respecting 3-4th grader now would be a Big Bird? That also would indicate that Sesame Street is a new show... we know that Sesame Street celebrated its 30th anniversary a while back.

Then again, maybe I wont, talks about leaving pennies for a tip... for two milkshakes. When was the last time pennies was a 10% tip for two milkshakes? Also talks about people shoplifting and "looking the other way", also the concept of an electrical cartridge... that won't work either.

I know minor details, but enough to make it dated for me.

Forever talks about the drinking age being 18... When was the last time that was the case? It hasn't been the case since the late 70's --early 80's for ones that were grandfathered in.

I have Freckle Juice at home, and that is dated as well. Yes, I think the copyright of our copy is 1980, but I have read dated expressions, and interactions that would not work now...

Those books were the ones I was thinking about. I'm glad she is updating some of them . Those ones I have mentioned have different covers, but the plots have been the same.

Dated or not, Judy Blume is a wonderful author for children. Times may have changed, but the sentiments and feeling sure haven't.

They are still good books, but some of dated parts make less of an impact if you don't understand them or were aware of them.

If she could update those for the current generation, that would be good.

I had every one of her books when I was younger.

my dd's current favorite is Sally J. Freedman. written in the 90's but set in the 1940's -- chapter one takes place on VJ Day, and the balance of the book takes place 2 or 3 years later, in Miami Beach.

That is a period book, and you know it... but the ones that are "current at the time" I have a slight perception problem with.

Sally J Friedman was written in 1977 also. I remember reading it as a child when it first came out.. the 90's is the current edition with new cover art.
