I love SW but now I'm frustrated!!!

VLee,sounds like you got a better deal even if SW had had your dates available.

I bailed on SW and booked on AirTran for our June/July trip. It was the same price as SW's May low-end "fun fare"... and they're booking now.

I'm still waiting on Southwest, but this is the thing I've never understood about them. When other airlines release their fares, they should do the same.

I've flown Southwest many times, and never once has the flight been full. Maybe this is why.:confused3

They are one of the very few airlines making money. One way they do that is by not releasing schedules far in advance. That way they don't have to be constantly changing schedules the way other airlines do. They have the most liberal change policy I have seen by far. I would just be patient. No one else is able to book it either so you'll be one of the first in line when they do release the dates. I highly doubt that the day they release the dates the fares will be sky high.

Oh don't get me wrong - I will DEFINITELY wait on Southwest for all those reasons. You are 100% correct. Their change policy is almost too easy. In fact, when I go in May, I'm not 100% certain if I'll be coming back on Monday or Tuesday, so I'll buy tickets for both days. Whichever day I don't fly, I just get a credit that can be used within the year. No airline I know of allows that.

I'm impatient, but I've never gone wrong on SW. Except for delays, but that's not totally their fault.

Actually, things are a LOT better now economically for the carriers. In fact one of the biggies just announced their 2006 results and they now are back in the black.

Asked the Flight Attendents on our very 1st flight on SW last Oct, MCO to PIT (last direct flight of the day)...

they said it's nearly always sold out (believe they're getting new batch of customers who previously did business w/AT before they went to 1 direct flight/day).

We had A boarding, near FOTL, and still were far back on the plane due to lots of pre-boards (mostly large groups with young kids & apparently disabled adults)...just glad we got to sit together.:thumbsup2

Sometimes patience is a virtue.

A previous poster (s) were correct. Once they put out their schedule, it is NOT likely to change unlike some other airlines. So you think you're secure in booking a long way out. The stress of having to constantly call or look up a flight all the time until the day of your travel is more inconvenient to me than waiting a few weeks and getting a carrier who stands behind their schedule once posted.
