I figured the Budget Board would appreciate this: I signed up for the Southwest Rapid Rewards CC 1 year ago when they offered 50,000 miles. I just bought our family of 4 tickets for our March trip and paid $20 (the Sept. 11 fees)!! The $99 annual fee is well worth it IMO for 4 roundtrip tickets :cool1:

We use our SW visa for almost everything! We also were able to snag the same promo. But we are also building points fast. We use it to pay bills, shop, gasoline...everything. At the end of the month, it gets paid off and we are closer to getting more free flights.:goodvibes

Us too! :dance3:

We got the same card 8 months ago. I am presently holding $1000 worth of gift cards for various chain restaurants near WDW. These cards cost me $99 yearly fee for my husbands SW card, and $69 for mine. We are gonna eat all meals out while in disney for $168. You can't beat that! Thanks to the DISboards for all the great advice

Great job! :thumbsup2

Don't forget that you can continue to earn Rapid Rewards even if you cancel the card. Check the Partners page in the "How to Earn" section of the Rapid Rewards website. You don't have to use a Southwest CC to make purchases through the RR shopping portal or when you eat at RR Dining locations.

I switched my electric provider and got an extra 12,500 RR points for doing it (5,000 of those points were a bonus for having the SWA CC.) I will also get 1 pt. for every $1 spent on electricity through the provider.

Sign up for the Rapid Report and Rapid Rewards Newsletter and get 250 points for each.

And check the SWA section on flyertalk.com often to see if there are any new offers that can add to your point total.

oh,the SWA card is a beautiful thing...keep earning points -100k in one year and you get a free companion pass....good for almost 2 years! talk about free flights:thumbsup2 we're at the point now where all of our flights are free for this year, and will continue to be free thru next year (hit cp status, keep using card -paying annual fee, getting more RR points, use points to pay for the extra family member tix....)
it is SO worth a 99 fee for the year, plus you can use the points in so many ways! I also got hotel nights free for our upcoming trip with RR points.....
lots of info on blogs like millionmilesecrets ,etc......

Can anyone tell me.... how many miles do you earn per dollar spent? Like if I spent $100 at the grocery store and put it on my card, would that 100 miles?

Right now we put all of our bills on our Disney Visa but I'm really liking the idea of switching over the SW Visa. Trying to figure out how fast we could earn a flight after we've used the promo 50,000 miles up.

They're "points" not miles. RR is a very different program from most FF programs that award you in "miles" and then require a minimum of 20K "miles" to redeem for a RT ticket.

But to answer your question, you will get 1 point per dollar spent using your SWA Visa at most locations. You will get 2 points per dollar when you use your SWA Visa on the SWA ot their hotel and car rental partners.

We are thinking of signing up for one just for the flights. I'm thinking based on my search that we can score three free flights out of this card.

We have one as well but I thought our annual fee was only $75....

I pay $49 annually. :confused3

Hmmmm. Not sure? It was $99 when I signed up, so maybe they raised it and you were grandfathered in. I think I will call them and ask! I know for my USairways card there are different "types" of cards that have different annual fees but I hadn't thought this card had that.

Thanks for the info! I definitely look for any way to get free/reduced flights since they are so expensive

There are different annual fees depending on what card you have. The signature or the regular. I pay $99 annual and the promotion I signed up with was for 50,000 miles and the signature card an I received my miles after my first purchase. I also receive 6000 miles on my anniversary.
Some of the promotions are for 25000 and a minimum had a minimum charge of $1000 before getting your miles.
I think those that pay $69 receive 3000 miles.

There's a whole thread about the SW cc! I'll try and link it!

I wish SW flew out of our airport. We got the credit card but can't really use the rewards for tickets :( I'm still deciding on the best gift cards to use them on LOL

So far this year, we have saved approx. $800 on flights. I'm waiting for my new points to post next week and I will book another $335 worth of tickets. (this is the current retail price for the flights I'm planning to book)

DS just started college so we are putting all of his fees and housing on the card. That will really rack up the points. Woohoo!

Definitely happy I applied for that card!:thumbsup2

We signed up back in April when they were doing the "free roundtrip flight after first purchase" promotion. $69 annual fee and 3,000 points ($50 in wanna get away fare) awarded on your sign-up anniversary. Almost pays for itself with the anniversary reward. I do wish I had signed up during one of the "two free roundtrip flights" promotion! But I'm happy with what I got. =)

Plus, with no baggage fees, no change fees and early boarding for families with small kids, I can't think of a better airline.

Used some of our points for our Disney trip next month!

No pre-boarding for families with small children anymore. Families with children 4 & under board between the A and the B boarding groups. And if I'm not mistaken, it is only for immediate family. So the entire clan cannot board in that slot just because little cousin Boo is 4 years old.

Thank you for posting this, it saved me from calling! I also got the 50,000 points with 6,000 on my anniversary, that explains it.
