I'm calling it 'the flat house' since it's a sprawling ranch and we moved from a house with 3.5 floors. Honestly, we have a finished basement here that also has a woodworking space and a complete canning kitchen(look for this on Craig's list). This place is a classic midcentury modern-built in '58 and we're lovingly doing some restoration work as well as doing some modernization in the bathrooms. I've found out so much about my Mom and Dad's taste in furniture and I'm so glad I took some of it. I wish I had appreciated it more when they were living-typical. It is very collectable and I've got a lot more respect for it now. I just found an orange leather bar complete with stools for the basement-which has brown shag, a pool table and fireplace #2. We moved the old frig down there for drinks, snaks and overage so it's officially the hang out for the kids. My girlfriends want to have a martini/manhattan party(those were the drinks of those days-refer to Madd Men) and I've found two delightful mid-century antique stores for accessories. My Mission/Arts and Crafts furniture has such simple lines that most of it looks great here. The current light fixtures all need replacing to something more 50-60's than the late 70's stuff that's all over this house and AWFUL!!(Also check Craig's list for this stuff!) I'm looking for swag lights - sputnik chandeliers and cigar lamps today. None of it is cheap so I'll be spending my WDW money on lights
this year-sigh. Seriously-the dining room had this bottom-ugly fake tiffany shade-which my best friend removed immediately upon her entrance to my new home, lol! the fixture in the kitchen/breakfast nook is western in theme. ZI has a horseshoe in the middle with a wagon wheel as the body and spurs under each minature bunkhouse lantern. Wild!!!
