I'm calling it 'the flat house' since it's a sprawling ranch and we moved from a house with 3.5 floors. Honestly, we have a finished basement here that also has a woodworking space and a complete canning kitchen(look for this on Craig's list). This place is a classic midcentury modern-built in '58 and we're lovingly doing some restoration work as well as doing some modernization in the bathrooms. I've found out so much about my Mom and Dad's taste in furniture and I'm so glad I took some of it. I wish I had appreciated it more when they were living-typical. It is very collectable and I've got a lot more respect for it now. I just found an orange leather bar complete with stools for the basement-which has brown shag, a pool table and fireplace #2. We moved the old frig down there for drinks, snaks and overage so it's officially the hang out for the kids. My girlfriends want to have a martini/manhattan party(those were the drinks of those days-refer to Madd Men) and I've found two delightful mid-century antique stores for accessories. My Mission/Arts and Crafts furniture has such simple lines that most of it looks great here. The current light fixtures all need replacing to something more 50-60's than the late 70's stuff that's all over this house and AWFUL!!(Also check Craig's list for this stuff!) I'm looking for swag lights - sputnik chandeliers and cigar lamps today. None of it is cheap so I'll be spending my WDW money on lights
this year-sigh. Seriously-the dining room had this bottom-ugly fake tiffany shade-which my best friend removed immediately upon her entrance to my new home, lol! the fixture in the kitchen/breakfast nook is western in theme. ZI has a horseshoe in the middle with a wagon wheel as the body and spurs under each minature bunkhouse lantern. Wild!!!

Glad you like your new home--having grown up with a lot of what you are adding in your house all I can say is YUCK. I didn't like it the first time around and still don't like it :lmao::lmao::lmao: Sorry.

Congratulations! I wish you and your family many happy and healthy years there. :)

Happy Housewarming, Shortbun!! It sounds like your new house is already home! Wishing you many wonderful memories and blessings in your new home for years to come! :)

There is a coffee shop near our house that you would love-and try to steal furnishings from :lmao:. They have the whole retro thing going on--but they serve good coffee so I put up with the decor. :lmao:

:cool1: Your house sounds SO cool! I would love to do what you are doing someday; find a house I love and fix it up and decorate it, bit by bit.

If you care to, please post come pics of your new house; I'd love to see it! :goodvibes

I know! I grew up with it too and it seemed so boring back then but I've fallen in love with the Jetson's style of furniture and metal all over again!!
My kitchen has the original formica countertops and linoleum tile floors!! They are mint green, lol!!! You would absolutely HATE it!!!:rotfl:

Our first house had the baby poop yellow counters and flooring, I did hate them :lmao:.

Don't forget to get a couple of lava lamps!;)

It sounds cool, though! Glad you're enjoying your new home!:goodvibes

Would you like a couple "wagon wheel" chandeliers to add to your decor? How 'bout my avocado bathroom? Or are those "too modern" for your new house? :)

I am happy for you...and I TOTALLY know how you feel! We moved last year from a townhouse to a 1970's ranch style house on an acre. We are totally renovating (hardwood floors throughout, popcorn off ceiling, expanding and redoing kitchen) and while I don't want it to look like a time warp, I want to keep a little "70's flavor." I don't like it when an older home has granite countertops or marble floor. We are doing butcherblock countertops in the kitchen (waterloxed, they will not be cut on) and most of my decor is that sage (avocado?) green and rusts and browns.

All the sliding glass doors that lead to the pool have been replaced with french doors. My husband almost died when I told him..."Hmmm, wonder what it would take to put the sliders back in??"" He put his foot down on that one.

I love love love MCM design but could not do it in this house, it would not fit.

Anyway, glad to hear you are happy. Even in our construction mess, i walk around with a smile, THRILLED that this is now MY house and we plan to keep it a very long time.
