It's trash day, and I came home from errands this morning and noticed my neighbors threw away a stroller. I was thinking it had to be broken, but went across the street to look at it, opened it and rolled it around and it is in great shape! It is nice too, big wheels, comfy almost new padding, cup holder. I have been in the market for a new stroller so now I have one and it was free!! She is moving so that is why I am thinking she is throwing stuff out. She had a couple of bikes sitting out across the street too. Maybe I should walk back over there......

I have decorated my bachelor pad by dumpster diving :smooth:

I don't have time to have a yard sale and have stuff the local charities won't take. I'd be happy if a neighbor takes the stuff that I won't be moving with me!

Glad you got something good. Unfortunately, I had a great crib that went to the dump because goodwill wouldn't take something that was handcrafted by a furniture maker!

I've never taken something from someone's trash, but people used to dig through my trash all of the time. I have no idea why, it was literally trash...old papers, garbage, etc.

We have a space at our dump (excuse me, transfer station) where you can leave good items you are getting rid of, and don't want to trash. We call it the take it or leave it.
I always check when dropping off the trash and recyclables; last month I got a $300 power wheels battery operated jeep for the kids. And I always check for any nice disney stuff; I got an original Figment stuffed animal once, and I've gotten about a dozen disney records; real old stuff you can't get anymore; now I just need someone to leave a record player.

P.S. good luck Stepharoonie; you seem so nice from your posts, I'm sure you'll do well on that interview.

One persons trash, is another persons treasure:D

Then you should have been following me the past month. LOL! Started in FL prior to the move...threw decent stuff out. Tried to hide it in the garbage. LOL!

Now I'm 400 square feet short of what I previously had. And I went from a 2 car garage to zero! I'm throwing out tons of stuff! Can you say PartyLite? :earseek: I LOVE that stuff, but I don't have storage space! That's just the tip of the ice berg.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Where's the little green guy cracking up and pounding his fist?!

Good for you momof3...
Dumpster Diving? I prefer to call it creative recycling! And I have an inheirited disorder that prevents me from discarding anything that might possibly in some remote way be of use to someone sometime. When I toss it, it really is trash!
My best friend lives on an island where their trash must be hauled off-island. At their dump, excuse me 'recycling center', they have an area for still usuable items. You should see it in the summer on Saturday afternoons when the yard sale folks are dropping off their 'remainders'. There are people lined up to pick through the discards! And some of them put it up for sale at their own yard sales the next week! We were dropping off really useless stuff after our last sale and a man was picking it up as we put it down. We finally asked him if he wanted to just take the stuff directly from the car!::yes::

Yup, moving here too and throwing out some good stuff. Local charities wouldn't take a few things and I told them to leave when they got so picky. My mil took a bunch to sell at her yard sale, which is fine with me, more power to her and I don't have to deal with it. I've got more stuff too. We are moving to a place with no basements so the stuff has got to go! I have a perfectly good waterbed no one wants, it'll be firewood and the mattress goes to the dump, what a shame!

I got an entire wrought iron patio set from my neighbor with just a tiny bit of rust. The cushions were faded and I flipped them. I was just telling DH I wanted a lounger for the screen porch. He always makes fun of me and then he calls one day and goes uh hon I was on my way to work and the neighbor is throwing out a really nice iron round firewood holder, can you go get it? My DS and his friends brought home some of those plastic molded patio chairs - 4 of them with the price tags on.

Do you live near Duxbury? My boss lived there and he used to talk about this crazy "dump" all the time. He made it sound like a secret store or something. Or maybe there are several of them in MA?

When I was moving out of my apartment and in with DH, I had a pile of things that I wanted to get rid of. DH and his friend went to the apartment one evening while I was at work to move some of my stuff. Much to my dismay, DH had picked my trash  . I'm still trying to get rid of that stuff, and it has been over 10 years!

Be careful and smell it. We threw out a portable baby bassinet because the cat thought it made a nice litter box. Somebody picked it up before the trash man came. I only hope they gave it a good whiff before putting their baby in it. Ewww!

Pin Wizard ever heard of ebay?? You could of made a fortune.

send partylite my way.I love that stuff so doesmy sister inlaw she is lagally blind and light sensitive and only use candels not lights.

Pugdog007, that's funny, I live near Duxbury, but the demographic for it is about the same as my town, maybe a little ritzier. It doesn't surprize me at all that people leave stuff like this; if you only have one or two decent items, it's probably not worth your time to try and haev a yardsale with it, and leaving it for someone else is a nice way to get rid of it.

I'm having a moving sale next week. I figured anything left on Saturday, I would just put up a sign take it for free and get rid of what I could. Anything left after that will go in the dumpster!
