For all the teacher bashing threads, I wanted to say thank you to all the great ones! DD goes to a very small school and last year the bullying started with the girls in her class. As there is only one class per grade there was nowhere for her to go. She was in 3rd grade and they were the oldest grade in her recess/lunch group. She didn't want me to say anything to the teacher but by the end of the year she was having serious anxiety issues and had to stop altar serving because one of the bullies attended the mass she was serving. DD went into a full blown panic attack in church. I stepped in and mentioned something to the teacher and just asked her to keep an eye on it as I only had one side of the story. By the end of the afternoon she told me that she witnessed what DD had been telling me. She hadn't paid any attention to it before but now saw the problem. Okay, it was the end of the year and I let it die.

This year rolls around and she has a fabulous teacher that knows DD as she was in her advanced reading last year. This year hasn't been too bad because they are now the youngest girls in the lunch/recess group and the older girls are watching out for her. I love those girls.

Anyway, her teacher pulled her aside today and said that she noticed that DD is getting bullied. She asked what specifically is being done and told DD to come to her at anytime and it would be kept confidential. According to DD, her teacher put on her "mean face" and gave the class a very stern lecture about how they are to treat each other. DD went to sleep tonight happy as a clam.

So for all you fabulous teachers out there - THANK YOU!!!

its good to hear good stories. I do think that a school wide bullying program/rules should be presented. Our school did it with good results. They used an outside company who did a play, workshops and role playing.

Great topic! I love DD's two teachers this year. Their classes are over cap, but they still manage to give each child personal attention and make school fun for the kids.

Hmm, I like this idea. Next week is parent-teacher conferences and I will definitely mention this to the teacher. Thanks for the idea.

Thank you for this thread from a 3rd grade teacher!! :)
