I love credit cards so much!

For somebody starting out, it's important to be methodical with your AMEX cards and only select cards where you like both the signup bonus but also the ongoing benefits.

THIS!

Or can generate a lot of organic or manufactured spend that they don't mind putting on their Amex card(s), at the opportunity cost of putting it on other card(s) with better bonus categories for the type of spend.

My (and my wife's) history with AMEX has basically wrecked our future relationship with them. At this point we've opened 21 cards, closed 18 of them and on the vast majority haven't put a $ on them beyond the MSR and NEVER paid a 2nd year AF. Since I can't go back and revise history, I've pretty much written them off. Others that haven't perhaps abused them as bad could probably fix that relationship.

Except for me... where they just hate everything about me and don't care about my spending with them lol.

I'm trying to calculate what my next move should be. Probably closing my Marriott Biz and DH's CIP. There aren't ever any retention offers are there?

DH's Citi AA Biz is in the mail today. I'm thinking CIU will be the next step for him. Don't know what my next step will be yet now that I'm wary of Amex.

I don't have one, never have had one and will likely never have one. I'm at "Pish Posh"/24 and will probably stay there. Then again, I do still hold the old Ink Plus. However, I do agree that the CIP is the best bonus out there and would recommend it to anyone.

Pretty sure applying via paper (docusign) app with an in-branch BRM still bypasses 5/24.

Hi everyone! I love reading these posts and have learned a ton, but am still confused about a few things. I would love to get a CIP card and it seems like almost everyone on this board has this one or some type of business card. I currently have no business activity. I work for a great company and that is where my income comes from. I have sold some items to a consignment store, but that's it. If I wanted to start something that might qualify me for a CIP, what would be an easy thing to do? Maybe sell some used books through Amazon? I am really lame when it comes to this type of thing. Thanks so much for any advice.

You sold stuff, so you already qualify for a CIP.

Business card applications like for the CIP will ask you for your business name, type of business, and tax ID number. Since the business is "you" -- assuming you haven't created any separate legal entity for your business -- you'd use your legal name, SSN, and select sole proprietor of which you are the owner. It's ok to use your personal address, email and phone number. You'll also be asked to select a business category that describes what your business does -- it sounds like you'd pick something in the "Retail" category.

The application will also ask for annual business revenue/sales. You may or may not have made very much, but you could plausibly put any reasonable estimate here based on past sales, actual numbers, or projections based on plans to further develop your business. Like you mentioned, if you decide to sell used books on Amazon or items on eBay, you as a business are opening up new retail channels (the same way Mattel sells on their own website, Target, Walmart, etc.), which should increase your revenue numbers/projections. And keep in mind, they're asking for "revenue" -- the gross number of your sales -- not profit. Also, there is a separate field for your total gross annual income, which is where you put your combined household personal income.

When applying for the CIP or any other card you don't have an "in" to, please consider supporting this community by using a "support link" from DISchurners.

I know this feels daunting, but we have an amazing community here who have been through what you're going through and totally understand. There's no shame here, so don't feel lame. If you need any more advice, have questions, just want to vent, we're here for you.

If I had it to do over again..I wouldn’t change a thing! No wait...I’d hit them even HARDER back then LOL!!

I don’t recall hearing of any retention on CIP.

On Marriott cards they straight tell you that the free night is your retention lol.

My typo, it's the green one so it is 1.5. Mine is the 1%.

I want to change mine, but my son uses it and he's way far away right now. If I change mine will the old card still work? It'd take over a week to get a card to him and he can't be without a card, it's the only way he can avoid FTF right now, as far as I know from looking at his account. Now, he on the other hand, has no interest in any of this. He'll just stay on my card and he's content earning cash back for mom. But really, he's done a great job over the past year and I'd feel very comfortable with him getting his own card now.

As long as you are not switching from Visa to MasterCard, the card will still work until the expiration. The only difference is the color of the plastic and the rewards structure.

Chase biz..... I've tried repeatedly to get an employee card for the CIP- every time I get a 'site not working' error on the final page...is this bc we haven't yet gotten the main card,or something else?

I’ve never tried to order an employee card before the main card arrived...so :confused3...maybe someone else has been able to

So what do you have this morning?? We are a mess and I'm just going to wait until it melts!
A perfectly clear drive :) We shoveled the 2 in" yesterday morning on our 400 ft private drive and headed out to breakfast. And then DH swept the small trace that fell yesterday afternoon. Our county was originally on a 2 hr delay but ended up closing this morning. I think the southern half got double to triple what we received. I am teleworking today since we are on a 2 hr delay but taking the afternoon off so I have lunch and spend time with my boys.

Lol hard pass... I'll just call and cancel once the night posts. I think I applied for that card on 1/31 last year, so I'm still waiting on the free night to post. No point keeping that when I have SPG Biz.

Seriously. Everything in one year before Amex has a chance to count any card closures against you because you didn’t want to pay the AF, right?

This is absolutely what I would advise someone just starting out on Amex to do. Hit them all, and I do mean all, in one year. They are reinforcing the idea of it's a sprint, not a marathon.

So DH would like to earn some UR again.

We can upgrade his Freedom to either CSP or CSR. I spent all day yesterday trying to determine which is the better play.

This would mean me switching my dining spend from pink gold Amex to Chase. I’d put travel on Chase. I’d keep grocery spend on pink gold Amex and gas too.

All non-bonus would stay on the arrival+.

It seems like $3,300 spend on travel/dining is the break-even point for the CSR over CSP.

Or is it even worth the bother? I’m starting at virtually no UR. Just looking for some thoughts here.

My neighbor came by and shoveled the end of my driveway. We are close to the street so I could have driven through it if I had to move, since I have a larger vehicle. At times like this I'm happy not to have a 400 ft driveway - mine is more like 45 feet. Our three vehicles kept the snow from piling up on the driveway. It will probably melt tomorrow when the temp goes up to 36.

Yeah, that is definitely a pitfall of our home since it is also a huge hill and the last part to the house is basically a right turn. My poor Acura TL couldn't make it up a few times when there was snow on it. My Honda Crosstour is much better for this weather. I hear there is more on the way this weekend. Boo!

I am either paranoid or Chase hates me. My first deposits into both my new savings and checking account were both on hold for a whole week. I got tired of waiting and called. I had to speak with someone about who the checks were from. They verified this and then released the money. I am starting to really work for this bank bonus!

This is the card I've gotten the most Chase offers on. PetSmart 30% and Staples 30% and 10% - (Personal card) I'm up to $37 redeemed so far.

Is he under 5/24 and Does he have the Chase business cards
