Everything went smoothly except Equifax whom I contacted first and by phone. Customer service sounds like it is India so very difficult to understand. After taking my info I was instructed that I need to establish an account on line. No go, resulting in a second call to a second hard to understand person who was unable to help me and her first response was try logging on later. Umm yeah, that's the best solution. So now I wait for IT to contact me.

I have read online I should file a police report, contact Social Security, the IRS and the FTC. (???)

Thoughts, ideas, any other agencies I'm missing? Boy I need a BIGGER glass of wine.

I have no experience in this but just wanted to say sorry you’re going thru all of this.

I don't think it's that so much as we're getting further away from the equifax breach and a lot of times when the info is stolen it will be sat on for months while people forget that it happened or thought they were fine because nothing happened to them at that point. Granted we don't always find out about this stuff until months after, but when so much is stolen it won't all get used/sold/whatever right away anyway. This makes 2 of us on this thread in less than a month. I don't think there's any one thing it can be pointed to but I would like to think that since I'm applying directly on the secure credit card website that my info is safe but we all know how that goes.

I think more important it's good to know that these things are being caught, whether it's chase's fraud department or an alert from credit karma so it can be caught and marked as fraud. With everything that's happened I didn't want to freeze my credit because while it's not a huge hassle it's still a hassle I didn't want to deal with. Now it's all frozen and I don't have to worry and it will also keep me from applying for a card when I'm not at home unless I want to dig through my emails to find the info I need to unfreeze everything. Really I'm more concerned about an employer that wants to do a credit check (not getting into my thoughts on that) but that I don't want to have to bring it up prematurely but would want to know so I can unfreeze it and not cause hassle or potential issue with a hiring. But I would also hope in this day that they would understand people having a freeze and it wouldn't be a hassle or an issue but you never know with some people.
One thing that sticks out to me as a point of vulnerability is my in air Chase SW app on Dec 3. Maybe its just coincidental that the first breach was my Chase CSR card 30 days later, but a credit card app over an unfamiliar WiFi sure seems iffy but I don't know how this all works. Obviously I would make a horrible criminal. Lol

Thank you. 2019 has started off with a giant bang. Don't forget my laptop fried Saturday night as well.....I think that BIGGER glass of wine needs to turn into a martini. Ugh.

Since it's a last minute trip I wasn't able to get the Storybook Dining at Artist Point, but I put in a Touring Plans reservation finder. We will need a backup though in case we don't get it. Anyone have any reasonably priced options for dinner at the MK resorts? We've done Ohana before.

I like Kona at the Poly or the Wave at CR. Both have been delicious every time we've eaten there and prices are reasonable.

So sorry this is happening, but so happy you found out so soon and are taking the steps to be proactive!

For those beginning the GrAAvy Train: I applied for my first Citibusiness AA Platinum around 10/8/18, approved and activated on 10/10/18. I tried to cancel via secure message this evening, and I was told I need to call in. I've seen other reports of this on reddit over the last couple of days. I don't mind calling in to cancel tomorrow, but I'm a bit anxious about 3 months from now when I will need to cancel my second Citibusiness AA Platinum, especially when it will be obtained from a code purchased on r/churningmarketplace. I suspect that Citi may be starting to clamp down a little.
Responding to my own earlier post with an update for those churning Citibusiness AA cards. You cannot cancel cards via chat, but you can cancel via secure message. It's just that Citi is trying to do away with secure messaging, so it's hard to find.
Under the "Services" menu, select "Credit Card Services"
Select "Request a Credit Limit Increase"
Select "Request Your Card Agreement"

You will then be able to send a secure message. You must go through, "Request a Credit Limit Increase." You cannot click an earlier link to request a card agreement. I did not receive a reply to my secure message asking to cancel my card, but the card was nevertheless cancelled without a phone call.

Thanks @PolyRob . Definitely pre churning I was VERY lax about checking my CR, so this hobby may or may not have anything to do with my current dilemma, but this hobby is certainly responsible for my quick awareness of the problem. For that I am extremely grateful. Thank you ALL for your part in getting me up to this level of knowledge over the last 15 months.

One last monkey wrench tonight in trying to report this to Social Security or the FTC.......NOBODY HOME! Thank you government shutdown.

Social Security is fully funded and operational but our TSCs are not manned 24/7.

Thanks for the articles. However all the links are the same ones I already tried. The response I get is:

Due to the government shutdown, we are unable to offer this website service at this time. Information about identity theft can be found on the FTC's website at: Identity Theft | Consumer Information

We will resume normal operations when the government is funded.

The phone numbers give the same response.

Wow.

Easywdw and wdwnt both have some good reports that are recent. I have done MK DAH three times. Sadly not doing any of them this upcoming trip. Spent all my Disney money on AP’s and DVC so this is otherwise a budget trip. Only two table service meals for 7 days.

Thanks...looked into it...since it’s $125 pp and DH really does not do a lot of rides we will pass....it does sound really nice

Manhattan hotel recommendations please! We have an event and concert to attend at Carnegie Hall in mid-February. Dh would like to stay in that area, so south of Central Park/north of Times Square.

No points or free nights to be used yet, unfortunately. Not loyal to any chain, though dh does have WoH card. Just the two of us.

:goodvibes

You've gotten some great suggestions already. The only real issue is this is an expensive area - it seems like there are more huge luxury boutique hotels and fewer values.

I would suggest the JW Marriott Essex House. It's a very nice boutique hotel that tends to be a little cheaper than the rest. Avoid the Park Hyatt. It's ok, but it's not worth the astronomical rates they charge.

If you're looking for slightly more value-oriented options that are still very nice, the Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Central Park, Courtyard New York Manhattan/Central Park, and Hilton Garden Inn Central Park South are all just a couple blocks away from Carnegie Hall. Don't venture much further downtown unless you go all the way on the other side of Times Square. Otherwise, you're just into Time Square and it's a constant madhouse. There are nice hotels (Marriott Marquis, DoubleTree Suites), but a lot of bad ones too (The Manhattan, Hotel Carter, The Wellington).

There are also lots of good options in Midtown East, but it's a further walk to Carnegie Hall, so it just depends on what you want. Intercontinental Barclay, The Lexington, and Hotel 48LEX are all good options there.

Pre-churning days, I used to love going on Hotwire and researching the hidden hot rate hotels, and getting the best deal I could. I haven't done it in a while, but every so often I still look. If you're feeling lucky, look in the Central Park South and Rockefeller Center areas for anything over 4/5 rating with an above 4.5 TripAdvisor rating.
