I love credit cards so much!

In your situation I would get it...we usually don’t buy trip insurance but did 10 years ago when we were doing a big family cruise for my in laws 50th anniversary...and everything was being booked a year in advance.
Unfortunately my father-in-law was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away before the cruise...and everything was fully reimbursed
We had a similar issue, though not cruise. I planned a big Disney trip with my sister and family, with my mom and dad for their 50th. My dad was diagnosed terminal a month before the trip. We were reimbursed everything including fees to reinstate miles we used.

Thank you for your reply!
I should have been clear, yes, I think CSR insurance should cover hotels booked with URs. For our upcoming trip I booked the air with URs and Chase said insurance applies to the trip booked with UR points. But they were not clear on the hotels booked with other program points.

I think I have never seen any reservation confirmations booked with points showing the monetary value. I guess it is reasonable, but makes me wonder about using free night certificate. My email confirmation shows "Free" for the cost.

I have used Insure My Trip before, but did not know they have chat feature. Good to know!

BTW, it's good to talk to you again, wanderlust7! :wave2:

:wave2: @MomoMama - good to see you around.

So I was curious, looked into it some more, and found this:
https://tripinsurancestore.com/frequent-flyer-and-free-travel-award-coverage/

The one plan they have that covers reward points is only for credit card reward points that have a cash value. So I guess that would mean 1 cpp for UR, 0.6 for MR, 0.5 for TY. I don't think hotel points have a cash value. So I think you're right, those and the free nights would not be covered (because how would they even assign a value?). Unless there was some way to redeposit the points or get the free night back for some fee like airline miles, then maybe some plans would cover the fee.

What am I missing on registering DH for his PNC account? I created a pin number when I applied for the account, and the email said "you will receive a debit pin number if you have not already created one." Just tried to login using the pin number I created, account number, and social and it says it does not recognize it. Any ideas?
I'm not sure this is it, but I think I remember it taking a few days to get online access, even though, like you, I created a pin when registering. I'd give it a day or two before I'd call, but I don't like to make phone calls!

When our trip insurance covered canceled flights paid with points, insurance paid the $150 fee to redeposit our AA miles. Not sure if most hotel groups have similar fees, because you can cancel most hotel bookings until a few days before your stay

 So sorry..it’s hard anytime but when they are so close to that milestone anniversary that means so much to them

For those beginning the GrAAvy Train: I applied for my first Citibusiness AA Platinum around 10/8/18, approved and activated on 10/10/18. I tried to cancel via secure message this evening, and I was told I need to call in. I've seen other reports of this on reddit over the last couple of days. I don't mind calling in to cancel tomorrow, but I'm a bit anxious about 3 months from now when I will need to cancel my second Citibusiness AA Platinum, especially when it will be obtained from a code purchased on r/churningmarketplace. I suspect that Citi may be starting to clamp down a little.

Well Dh and I are officially crazy. I think we are seriously going to wdw January 28-February 4. Frontier just released a 75% flights to Florida and if we buy today we can fly to Florida for $28 there and $59 back. Haven’t pulled the trigger but pretty darn close. Our goal in going is to do all three after hours events.
Aw man. Denver to MCO is NEVER included in Frontier sales :( I was looking at that weekend as an option...

Hahaha - well the goofy part of this was that each of the 3 of us had ended up with both a $33 and $47 travel fund due to prices dropping on each of our flights for a summer trip. And of course I also wanted to use the $5.60 from booking these current points flights. Soooo I had 3 travel funds to use on each flight and of course Southwest only allows you to use 3 total payment methods so I needed to combine two of them so I'd only have "2 travel funds" and 1 CC payment.

Having a LUV voucher for the one leg then added one additional step because on that flight I had 4 "travel funds" and needed to combine and then combine again to get down the limit of 3. I will say this was MUCH easier when they allowed 4 payment methods...booooo Southwest!!

And I was trying to do it quickly because if the $115 price happened to go away while I had that flight cancelled it would have stunk! That's why I did them one at a time...well that and the fact that keeping all of these conf#'s with SW straight would have been crazy! It is absolutely useless knowledge for the most part but I love being a SW booking expert, LOL! I'm sure MANY on this thread could have figured this one out...but outside of our world...most of my friends/family would have been hopeless to achieve this result :)
Ha! Most people would just let the credits go to waste, I think. ILs would (that's partly why I have the crazy reimbursement plan for their flights).

July 2016: We went to SoCal with ILs. They left a couple days before us, and got caught up in some big SW system outage, had like a 6 hr delay, lost a bag.
Summer 2017: They are looking to book flights for our wedding. MIL decided to call up SW to see if they could get some compensation for the previous year. They did get $100pp or something. I was surprised that she called, and that they still gave something! But they had to mail them or something, so they just paid OOP for their flights and used the vouchers for their flights to Cali last April for BILs wedding.

You have to wait for the debit card to arrive. If I remember from my reading, logging in before then may require a call in to unlock your acct.

I think I got locked out. For my account, I got impatient and tried around 24 hours (maybe a little less). Didn't work, tried after 48 hours, then days and a week later. Finally debit card comes and I try again, still nope. Not until I activate the debit card by phone, it said something about unlocking (or maybe resetting). Then voila, it worked. All automated and I didn't have to talk to a live person (yay!), lol.

For DH's account, I knew to be patient and didn't touch it at all until the welcome e-mail came. Then got in right away. The debit card came a day or two later.

Just caught up. Today was especially dramatic day guys!

@DisneyMandC I am so sorry about the pop up. I got it on DH's account last month. Completely derailed my plans. It is especially frustrating after you think it all through and then get that. What is frustrating for me and his pop up is that we have spent a ton on his Amex accounts. He only has 3 but not even as MSR we put new garage doors on his SPG and that was $6000 alone. It is awful.

So you and I are two data points about high Amex spend and still getting the popup. I tried to apply for DH for the pink gold yesterday. He only has two Amex accounts, both credit cards, 1 earns MR and the other Delta miles. We spent like 12 or 13k on his Delta card in 2018. Still got the popup.

I don't have an issue getting Amex cards. I hold 2 charge cards and 4 credit. Two of those credit accounts are business. My pink gold is my daily driver. I'm inclined to believe it's both spend and regular, natural use at this point. All the spend on DHs card is real but it's sporadic. We tend to use my pink gold and Arrival+ for everything right now. I won't be bullied into using a less superior card to get around Amex's weird rules! #ChurnersFightBack

I'm sorry :(

If it makes you feel any better, Dh and I are having a hell of a time deciding on resorts. I'm seeing on Priceline resorts for $142/night but these are all of the possible options according to Hotel Canary: BW, BC, YC, Contemporary, AKL, WL, Boulder Ridge Villas, or Polynesian. I would think for $142/night we would be happy with any of those. The only one we wouldn't really want is AKL, but we would still be happy at that price. I've never done the Express deals, though and I'm worried there's a chance we might not get any Disney resort.

Have you ever done them before?

We have the free Amex blue card. What is best use of those points? Once we used them on a great deal for AKL through their travel site but now I see nothing that doesnt require a ridiculous number of points. .... Gift cards?

ETA: I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Preferred - with which I get great use. Just want to use all of my DH's amex points

 Thanks! I have them both now too! And on my BBP, which is exactly where I wanted them :D

Me too! I just got my BBP though, so I'm still in MSR timeframe. I guess this means I need to stay away from Staples. Is Lowes ok?
Wouldn't it be so cool!?! I never would have even thought I would have enough points for this but since I've been mostly earning points but not really spending any, I actually think I can do this! We would be flying economy too, of course!!

I have looked at two airports but since I haven't had time to do too much research yet, I'm not sure which is best. Looks like NRT is probably the one we'd end up at based on what I've read. And then need to catch one of these buses to Disney.

I'll definitely be asking tons of questions here :) Let me know if you decide to look into it for your family!

I'm so excited for you! I will definitely be following along to see how this pans out!

@DisneyMandC , so sorry about the popup, ugh!!

I got some random voicemail from a 1-800 earlier and I thought it had to be fake since it said it was "Chase with potential fraud on my account." I went to log-in to my account online and it said "due to recent account activity my online access was suspended for my protection" blah blah blah

I thought could this be a Chase shutdown? Called the number the app provided, waited on hold about 15 minutes and found out Chase wanted to ensure I had money from the sending bank that I submitted for transfer into my new savings account :badpc:

All is corrected and I can log-in and see my cards and new accounts. What a scare! It actually really annoyed me that Chase thought I had insufficient funds submitted for transfer. SMH Now I won't feel so bad closing these accounts and opening a CIP next month for 80,000 URs.

@wendow I am most definitely considering Tokyo Disneyland! I think we should both do it; such a fabulous idea. I will start laying the groundwork with DH that we need to go. Sometimes it takes a while...it took over a year for me to convince him we should have a third baby. But pretty sure I could convince him it was a good idea especially if points paid for the entire trip! I just ran flights on my Delta app for SLC to Tokyo. Looks like three airports for all three and different dates (one first part of June and one in October) the rate was around 62,000 miles. From Denver it was around 68,000. You can transfer the MR’s to Delta AND you can transfer your Marriott points to Delta (even get the mileage bump when you transfer the increments of 60,000 Mariott Points). Going through Delta seems easier to me than trying to figure out a different airline, but maybe one of the others would be the way to go.

To everyone contemplating Tokyo Disneyland, I hope you all go! I loved it. DisneySea is beautiful and unique. Here are some things I liked over the U.S. parks:

- As mentioned already, way cheaper tickets! 4 day tickets $206 for adults, $132 for kids 4-11 (that's like the price of a 1-day ticket in the U.S. these days!).
- I found most of the food cheaper and better quality. We had a set lunch at the sit-down Italian restaurant in DisneySea, it was $25 for app, entree, dessert, drink. All delicious. I would have expected to pay at least $40 in the U.S. plus tip on top of that.
- No tipping in Japan!
- The convenience of the non-Disney hotels on the monorail loop. More convenient than most on-site hotels at WDW.
- Everyone sits down the first few rows for parades. I felt a lot less pressure to get a spot early.

Thanks for posting! It sounds like we would like it better than Paris Disneyland even if it was more work to get there. I have Mariott points, Hyatt points, MR’s and UR’s. Hotel wise would you recommend start trying to build more UR’s? Should I get a Hilton card? I have zero Hilton points...not even (gasp) a member of their award program.

So I got my check from my granny's estate tonight. So now it looks like I can fund 2 accounts for a bank bonus. Should I go for $200 bonus at Discover first, then go for one somewhere else? I was going to take $15k of the $20k I have in the bank to fund the discover. But I could get the bigger bonus now. And I guess I need to look at what I want to do next.

Or should I take the check to one of the local branches that are offering bonuses and open an account there with it? I'll have to read up on the offers in MI, but I know there were a few.
