I love credit cards so much!

@tink1970 — I see a hurricane headed your way, so you, DH, DD, and your dear dogs are in my thoughts. Stay safe over there!

Thanks so much! It's not so bad yet although there's water on the roads and blustery winds (I was out dragging the dogs on their walk). My heart is just breaking for the people to the east of us...after Ivan I know how horrible it's going to be for them.

On a happier note, I enrolled in Pay over time with one of my Amex cards Sunday and received my 10,000 Easiest MRs Ever today :)

Need some SW CP timing advice. I applied for my CIP May 25th and I'm hoping to earn a CP as early as possible in 2019. My plan is to do the SW Plus through a P2 referral and a Biz through a DisChurners referral. I was waiting to see if a 50k bonus offer showed up for the Plus to avoid the $10k MSR but at this point I'm thinking of just pulling the trigger. A couple of questions:

1. Is it too soon after my 5/25 CIP app to apply for these 2 cards or should I be good to go?
2. Should I wait a little longer to see if the 50k offer for the Plus shows up again?

TIA

Does this sound like a good signup bonus for the AMEX Business Card? 125,000 points for $3,000 spend with a $95 AF. Also how strict is AMEX as far as spending on their business cards? Is all expected to be spent at office supply stores basically?

Your fine applying for another card now....recommend applying for the SW business card first....there aren’t any referrals on this one...then a month or 2 later the SW personal...using P2s referral link

I've been wanting to get DH going with Amex, but have been trying to get the 100k personal plat offer (because I understand you're less likely to get that once you're a customer). No luck with cardmatch. So now I'm trying to figure out our next move. I could do the personal for the public offer (60K), but I can't refer him, and a $550 AF isn't that appealing. I'm thinking about the gold card (probably not in rose gold :P), because the grocery store points sound good. Or I could get him a Biz Platinum (public offer is 75k, so no point in referring him). Not scared of a 10k MSR at this point in the year (have a business expense that I can pay/submit for reimbursement that will take a big chunk out of that). I'm reluctant to get him started with Amex with anything other than the unicorn 100k personal plat because FOMO.

I think I'm struggling because what I really want is URs, not MRs, because I'm trying to aggregate URs to get us to Europe in business class. I'd love to get him a CIC, but he already has 2 business cards with Chase - a SW Biz and a CIP (CIP was obtained in mid august). Our business is for real, but its small (renting out one apartment). He is 3/24. Think I can get him a CIC in November, or will that make the Chase gods angry?

If I should hold off on Chase business cards for him, then do I just let go of the FOMO and get him the Biz Plat?

At least you guys get why I'm obsessing over this decision... most people would just think I'm a weirdo for the amount of mental space this question has been occupying.

I don't believe there is a SW Biz referral.

1. If CIP in May is your only card lately then definitely not too soon.
2. My feeling is they are not going to offer a higher bonus due to the Hawaii happenings. I could be wrong though. I plan on applying on my flight later this month.

You can apply now, just make sure not to spend until January because any points you earn now will just be more spend you will have to put on after the start of the year.

So I know you are familiar with what it takes to earn the companion pass. I would still recommend you read this post on reddit about all the things that can go wrong: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/9h4yc0/applying_for_southwest_cards_cp_late_in_the_year/

A few follow up thoughts:
  • You state that you are hoping to earn as early as possible...when do you first plan to fly and use the CP?
  • You are definitely good to apply for a card now, you probably were fine in July actually (not that applying then would've helped with the CP at all though, haha)
  • I would apply for the SW Biz card as soon as you wish (but again be careful with your MSR and all the ways you could accidentally mess up - detailed in my link above). As previously stated by @palhockeymomof2, there is no referral for this card.
  • There is no reason to apply for both cards at the same time. As a matter of fact, if you applied on the same day, one may be shut down. I would apply for SW Biz and start working towards your MSR.
  • Then once 2 months have passed since that application, I would apply for the Plus card using the referral offer. Perhaps at some point the offer will increase to 50k too then while you wait.
  • Keep in mind that spend in 2018 towards these MSRs won't count...so if earning the CP quickly is your goal, you're actually better off to wait and see if a 50k or 60k personal comes along! Otherwise you'll still need to spend $10k in Jan 2019 to hit the CP.
Good Luck!

Is this a Hilton Business card?

As others said, no Biz referral. I'd start with that, then if the Plus offer hasn't gone higher just pull the trigger. If it goes higher during your minimum spend period, you should be able to call or SM Chase to match the new offer. This seems to work about 98% of the time.

There are people on Reddit bragging about doing crazy stuff like getting 6 Chase Biz card in a year. I don't think you have much risk to try for a CIC once 3 months have passed since your CIP.

For those of you who have booked refundable hotels etc with URs through Chase travel online.....has anyone had the number of URs need go down ?
I’ve been checking my hotel reservation for changes like I do with my SW flights booked with points....no change so far....just wondering if there is a day of the week etc when pricing may be adjusted....Thanks

I’ve seen thoses too...getting 2 CIPs, CICs etc with their SS and a EIN....seems like they are fine but I think too risky for me

After looking at all the cards last night, I'll have a bunch of questions to ask as I go through all my notes. But first, just curious, but what is the deal with there being both a Marriott card and the new SPG Lux card out? Didn't they merge? We are looking at the Lux and want to make sure we don't make a mistake in not getting the Marriott one. :confused3

FYI on Chase AU bonuses (New CSP applicants especially)...

I know the application page for CSP doesn't show the AU bonus any more. That said, I still think it's worth trying because 5,000 URs for nothing is awesome.

My application page DID show the AU bonus so I can't specifically comment on that. I earned my 5k AU bonus by adding my wife to her own card without her middle initial.

Example:
Cardholder Name: Sally B Smith
Authorized User: Sally Smith
(same birthdate)

It worked - I got my 5k points! @have2getaway, @babyready, @georgina, @Missyson, @danjoealexis3006, - I recall that you all recently applied for CSP cards. IF you didn't yet attempt to earn the 5,000 AU bonus I'd do what I describe above and put one purchase on the new card and see if you get the points :) (You technically could even put the purchase on your existing card but why not follow it to the letter of the law, lol).

Our offer did not include 5000 language for AU but i created one anyway to share usage and the bonus popped up in my account. I am a positive DP for once!

Awesome - thanks for sharing that! It was kind of our suspicion that the AU bonus was still active even though not explicitly mentioned on some of these offers :)

Just Amex and Chase vying for the business. I think the SPG Lux is the superior card of the two. It has a higher AF but you get Priority Pass, Boingo Wifi, and GE/TSA credit. If you don't use those benefits then I would look at it as a difference of $55 in AF (bc of the $300 credit on SPG Lux) for getting a room worth up to 50K/nt vs 35K/nt.
