I love credit cards so much!

I had no plans for Amex cards anyway at this time, but I am feeling left out. lol I only have the SPG Biz. I don't even see on there where you could refer to other SPG cards either.
I just looked at my SPG Biz referral and don't see a spot for other spg referrals either. Maybe soon?!

I'm still working on MSR for my CSP. I was approved of at the end of August from a referral from my husband. I should be done in the next couple of weeks.

I have a couple of questions about my husband. Right now he has a CSP card that he has had for more than two years. He can apply for a new CSP or CSR, correct? It's my understanding in order to do this he will need to call and change his current CSP to a Chase Freedom card. Will he get the bonus if he does this? Can he apply for the CSP or CSR right after?

I want to make sure I understand everything correctly before I try to talk him in to this. He is a very reluctant player. He did see the 10,000 points he got from referring me, so that might help.

Haha, we are going to be very slow churners.

Due to a new rule you need to wait 48 months between bonuses on CSR or CSP now. Do you know the exact month and year he earned his CSP bonus? IF it was less than 48 months ago, you cannot apply now.

@SouthFayetteFan - Have those email links with the 24-month language expired yet? [Just check, they did.] I recall one of the ones you had expired in October [a day late, and $500 short], and DoC had some email links posted in his comments with early October expiration dates. [See https://www.doctorofcredit.com/temp...-sapphire-48-month-rule-with-email-referrals/] Still may not be enough time for @Missyson's DH to downgrade his CSP and reapply for another CSP; but there might be a window to apply for the CSR.

Nevermind -- Chase killed approvals through these links a few days ago.

This really is crazy...Anybody with even a Blue Cash Everyday or Blue Business Plus card can now refer to 29 AMEX cards....

That's not so crazy. The BCE and BBP are no fee cards that could potentially net Amex a new signup for a $550 AF Platinum card at a lower 60k MR welcome offer for $50 or 10k MR, which may be less than what Amex would pay out on a 75k or 100k MR signup. Amex welcome bonuses through referrals are often not the best offers available for that card.

What's crazy is if you're referring from a card with a big referral bonus like 10k or 15k MR (or recently as high as 20k MR) to a no fee card.

@mmmears -- I've mostly away from my computer all day, checking in here and there, but really find myself about 4 pages behind and catching up. I think you might've caught @SouthFayetteFan's post here: https://www.disboards.com/threads/i-love-credit-cards-so-much.3528202/page-2715#post-59817758. My understanding was this was previously only possible on Amex co-branded cards within the same family of cards.

If you or your husband already have an Amex-branded card, even if it's not the new Amex Gold/Rose Gold Card, you can generate a referral from that Amex card (i.e., your or your husband's Platinums) for the Amex Gold/Rose Gold Card or any of Amex's other cards, and the referral bonus would go to your or your husband's MR account accordingly. Because MRs cannot be combined between different members, you should consider where you want the respective bonus points to go when referring and applying.

We always encourage the people in this thread and on DISchurners to seek the best offer and if you have the ability to self-refer yourself or refer a partner to the new Amex Gold/Rose Gold Card or any of Amex's other cards, please do so. This would net yourself the referral bonus and the welcome bonus (or the referral bonus to one player, and the welcome bonus to the other).

Yes, I did see it right before I posted. It's definitely something to think about. I regret not grabbing the PRG before, but we were thinking about that one spot in case he was willing to open up a Chase business card in the next month or two. I know I can try for it myself, but I prefer to have all the URs pooled in one place in case they change the ability for us to pool them together. Will have to talk about it this weekend. My DH was sick for a few days and not feeling well enough to have a coherent, detailed discussion about finances so we just decided to wait and see. If I can get some MRs by referring him that might be the way to go. My MSR is almost done on the Platinum card, but we are hoping to spend less in the next few months so I'll have to pay close attention to that part as well.

Eeek! Y'all I just booked my first-ever award flight! I transferred most of my existing UR to book our outbound flights for Christmas this year and scooped up the last two seats available for our departure day. They would have cost $378 total if we'd used cash. When my statement closes tonight and the rest of our points post I'll book our return flights and save another $360! This is the best feeling!

Looking for a bit of input. I was thinking about the new pink AmEx. However I did have the Gold AmEx a few years ago (I think I cancelled it about 2 years ago when I got the Chase CSR). Would this mean that I couldn't get the MR bonus?

Also, I have just received the following cards from Chase (completed the MSR on the Hyatt and almost done the MSR on the other):
  • July, 2017: Hyatt (for the 60,000 points)
  • September 15, 2018: Ink Business Preferred (for the URs)
Would it be too soon to apply for the pink AmEx (if I could get the bonus MR -- if not I won't consider the card)?

So this is where this could get confusing...did this person have the AMERICAN EXPRESS GOLD CARD or the AMERICAN EXPRESS PREMIER REWARDS GOLD CARD?

American Express discontinued the Gold Charge Card back in July 2017. It sounds like this "NEW" card is a revamp of the PRG...so previous PRG cardholders are ineligible. Do we have any idea if previous cardholders of the "vanilla" Gold Charge Card would also be ineligible? AND does @*WDW*Groupie* know which card they previously held?

Honestly I have no idea! If I call AmEx will they tell me? I think it was just a plain AmEx gold card (if such a thing existed!)

If you tried to apply for the new card, and you previously held the card (or whatever it's predecessor was) you SHOULD see a popup come up that says "you previously held this card" or something like that.

You should be able to chat with Amex and they'll tell you if you've ever had the card before. There was a plain Gold some time ago (it persists now as the Ameriprise Gold). If that's the card you had, you should be eligible for this.

If you've previously had the Premier Rewards Gold, you likely can't get this one.

I'm a little late to this, but agree with @SouthFayetteFan and @striker1064.

The terms say:

Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card or the Premier Rewards Gold Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

"[T]his Card" is the new Amex Gold, which has existed for only a few hours. The new Amex Gold is an update of the Premier Rewards Gold, and if you have or have had the PRG before, then you're ineligible for a welcome bonus on the new Amex Gold. If you had only the plain old, discontinued Gold card, you should be eligible.

You can find out if you qualify for the bonus on the new Amex Gold in two ways: (1) call or chat with Amex and ask them what card you previously held and if you can get the new Amex Gold with the welcome bonus; (2) apply for the new Amex Gold, and if you don't get a pop up that says,

Because you have or have had The Premier Rewards Gold Card, you are not eligible to receive the welcome offer. We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?

then you should be good to go.

Good luck!

Congrats!! Yes, yes it is- and it's SO addicting!

I was more just saying it’s crazy that I can now refer 29 cards from 1 no AF card (including referring to a bunch of cards that I would never signup for!).

It’s crazy because up until a few months ago you couldn't even refer ANY card you didn’t have. This is just a wildly drastic (and positive) change IMO in a world where positive changes don’t happen often.

Upgrades don’t count as new cards, jealous!

I would think so... you could
1) SM Chase & ask. Use the SM for any credit dispute that might arise.
or
2) pay it and then call Chase and ask for a check for the AF refund

Lol...Good to know the upgrade wouldn't go against things if I decide to get it.

Probably will SM Chase about it. This way will have in writing as well. Thanks

If you sign up for the new Gold card in December, you can potentially triple dip the $100 airline credit on one $250 AF, if you plan to cancel the card after one year. If you decide that the new Gold card is a keeper, then it doesn't really matter. Just be sure to decide and get your application in well before 1/9/19 if you want the Rose Gold card. :)

So didn’t have plans to apply for any American Express personal cards until I was done with Chase...but this is very interesting...

Wait, you could triple dip the airline credit for the gold card AND the platinum????
*puts on thinking cap*

Have you generated a new link from the "Refer a Friend" link in the footer of the AmEx site? That's how I did it from my SPG Biz this afternoon. I took that link and put it in an incognito window and got a completely different looking first application page that had the "Looking for a personal card?" link towards the top.

I get a completely different short link from the link in the footer vs the refer now/refer.reward.repeat links, which I think is the key.

Just tried to use my new Hilton at the movie theater but they apparently don’t take American express
