I love credit cards so much!

I'm still working on MSR for my CSP. I was approved of at the end of August from a referral from my husband. I should be done in the next couple of weeks.

I have a couple of questions about my husband. Right now he has a CSP card that he has had for more than two years. He can apply for a new CSP or CSR, correct? It's my understanding in order to do this he will need to call and change his current CSP to a Chase Freedom card. Will he get the bonus if he does this? Can he apply for the CSP or CSR right after?

I want to make sure I understand everything correctly before I try to talk him in to this. He is a very reluctant player. He did see the 10,000 points he got from referring me, so that might help.

Haha, we are going to be very slow churners.
Due to a new rule you need to wait 48 months between bonuses on CSR or CSP now. Do you know the exact month and year he earned his CSP bonus? IF it was less than 48 months ago, you cannot apply now.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but last month Chase changed the bonus interval to 48 months from last bonus (instead of 24 months). He could apply for CSP or CSR but won't receive the signup bonus.
Also worth noting: Chase won't approve you for a card without the bonus. Unfortunately this would be a hard denial and a wasted hard pull most likely.

AMEX SELF-REFERRAL UPDATE: You can now self-refer to ANY card

This will sound somewhat complex...but follow me here:

1) If you hold any AMEX non-cobrand business OR personal card: (Gold, Platinum, Everyday, EDP, BCE, BCP, BGR, Biz Plat, Biz Green, etc...)

- You can now refer to ANY AMEX Card. This crosses over from business to personal. You can refer a BCP from a Biz Plat. You can refer an SPG business from an Everyday card. The possibilities are limitless.

2) If you hold an AMEX co-brand business OR personal card: (Delta, SPG, Hilton)

- You can now refer to ANY card in that family business or personal. Previously you couldn't cross over from biz to personal. You can refer Hilton biz from Hilton aspire. You can refer SPG Lux from SPG biz.

3) The theory here is you can also self-refer to these cards. This means that once you hold one AMEX non-cobrand you can self refer to ALL other AMEX cards. Of course, self referrals could stop tracking at some point...but for now all reports indicate that this will work.

THIS is probably the best explanation out there right now: http://travelinpoints.com/one-amex-card-generates-all-american-express-referrals-huge-if-it-works/

DOC has one up too: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/new-...ferrals-program-now-crosses-over-to-any-card/

I will be discussing with DISchurner mods on what to do about our DISchurners AMEX thread as this could necessitate a change...

This is so bananas. The only thing I'll say for now is, if you're planning to take advantage of a self-referral, do it now. Amex is going to drop the hammer on this, probably sooner rather than later.

But this is wild stuff.

I'm a little behind so don't know if this has been discussed already, but I was playing around on the UR Portal from my CSP and it looks like the change has been made to Expedia. I got excited for those of you that are holding out hope that booking with Disney may come back when they showed up, but no matter what dates I put it all the Disney hotels said sold out.

My original plan had been to save up URs for a Disney cruise, with that out the window I've been thinking about Caribbean All Inclusives. Has anyone ever done that with URs? It seems like a good value to me. Found one with good reviews for my family of 5 for 35-40k points per night. With my plan close to having two CP for 2018 we could fly to Punta Cana for 90,000 RR and $500 and stay at an All Inclusive for 6 nights for around 200K URs with the CSP or 172K if we would upgrade to a CSR. If my P2 and myself can both get the CIP we could have that by next spring! So even with the all the changes I can still see the value in URs.

This really is crazy...Anybody with even a Blue Cash Everyday or Blue Business Plus card can now refer to 29 AMEX cards....

Thanks so much for letting me know. Now I need to think about a card he could apply for. Off to research.

i cant refer myself to any cards... :( seems like Biz Plat doesnt allow it.
Did you go to the "Refer a Friend" link at the bottom of the AMEX site?

Then you copy your link...

Open that page in an incognito link...(I just find it works better that way)

Then scroll to bottom and "Explore Other Cards"...

nope. no Explore other cards.
theres a comment in DoC's post that says the same thing. we both are either missing something or it isnt working for us yet?

That stinks...do you have any other AMEX non-cobrand cards?

I was coming on here to mention that I found I could refer DH to the gold card from my platinum one, but I see it's old news and maybe he can refer himself? I have been reading today's pages before I was going to post, but I was just playing with the referrals in my own account and realized we could generate one for a card we didn't own. Pretty interesting. Maybe worth taking advantage of it even if it puts him at 5/24 for a while. We get new cards so slowly it probably won't matter.
:offtopic: I know I can get a quicker answer here than the discount board...thanks in advance....
Is there any way I can look up AP room discount availability before buying my AP? I am trying to decide on the timing of my purchase. If it helps me with a room for my dec trip then I will buy now. If not, I can wait...Thanks dischurners!

I have always been able to call and get quotes from them on AP rates before I decide whether or not to buy the AP. They will even book the room for you, but will constantly remind you that you'll need to have an AP to keep the rate. For me, it's been worth my time to get the info. No way to see it online without a current AP that I know of.

Tagging @LuckyMamaInDE — it looks like you didn’t have to wait long; and @mmmears — I know you’ve been eyeing this card:

American Express Gold Card 50,000 Points Signup Bonus Available via Incognito or via Referral

Yes it's been bugging me that we didn't get it just because of the 5/24 when we don't really have any plans to open up a Chase card in the next few months. It's the extra MRs on groceries and dining that are calling out to me. Oh why can't I get that on my Platinum for now? I was going to say that it's all for the best since our local Cheesecake Factory had closed up, but now I see there is a decent offer, even though sadly the annual fee is pretty high. Decisions, decisions...

Ugh. You all have me convinced I need a rose gold PRG.

I know. I feel the same way. And I'm not even a big "rose gold" person.

Do you think the referral needs to go from P1 to P2 or can I really self-refer to a gold? Won't they come and claw back any bonus?

Right? My brain is still processing this...

Yep. I don't see this lasting past the weekend. I need to figure out some things tonight for sure. I hope I'm wrong on the weekend theory.
