I love credit cards so much!

That one super freaked me until I learned more about the situation. She tried to enter on an expired Swedish passport and was denied, she then tried to use her Iranian passport and was told she could use that if she bought a temporary visa but had to leave within 8 days. They claim she refused to pay and got angry and verbally abusive and that led to the arrest. Official statement: http://www.mediaoffice.ae/en/media-...atement-by-the-attorney-general-of-dubai.aspx for your peace of mind. As much as I don't believe too much coming from any government these days this makes a lot more sense than "woman arrested for drinking 1 glass of wine served to her by national airline". Any law enforcement official would ask if you've been drinking if you started making a scene and became belligerent at immigration! Maybe none of that happened and they made it all up but I really don't think so, some facts you can't fake- like an expired passport.

That DEFINITELY makes way more sense. The whole thing sounded odd but I’d never heard of any experience like that in the UAE for anyone who’s not Muslim. I don’t drink anyways, but my friend never had any issues living there or flying back and forth multiple times. He loved living there which is what made me want to visit!

Wait... is this the conference you booked for yourself and a colleague to the tune of $2k each towards MSR on your Biz Plat? And it’s at the Grand Floridian?!

Nope, that's a difference conference. Much less nice location (but surprisingly, the room rate is not dissimilar to the rate for the conference that's at the GF - which means the other place is WAY overpriced, as far as I'm concerned. Not a property I'd choose, but at least I'm not paying for it - I just get the points :cheer2:). Didn't realize the spreadsheet also tracked conferences :rotfl:.

i went to get this yesterday but the staples i drove 40 minutes to get to had none.

Sorry to hear that! I actually called the store before I drove to the one 20 minutes away and he told me that had lots. When I got to the store, I didn't see any hanging with the others. I asked and was told that they had them and how many did I want. I had checked the one 5 minutes from us probably 2 or 3 times and they still don't have any.

How about the time I very carefully put my entire direct DVC purchase of Boardwalk Villas split between my husband's Amex Shwab Plat, and my Amex Schwab Plat to reach the minimum spend in one fell swoop and then waited and waited and waited for the pending charge to show up, only to discover that I accidentally put that whole LARGE minimum spend on our two other Plat cards that looked EXACTLY the same but were about to be cancelled due to annual fees coming due? I earned my stripes on that one. :crazy2:

Ouch!!! That's the worst! For that, I might call up and ask them to refund and re-run the charges!

The job quitting post will look more like this:

Only a few more days until you vest, right? Then at least you can start mapping out your escape route. If it really involves rooftops and a monkey, we will need video for sure.

I’m locked out of the Starriott cards for at least the next two years, and squeezing in before Marriott implements peak pricing, so you bet I was going to fight for the adjustments.

Me too and it's KILLING me! The Courtyard Coconut Beach on Kauai is being refurbed and rebranded as a Sheraton as we speak. I had a run in with a cane spider there but I forgave it because I love the location so much. It's right on a casual beach I'm pretty fond of. Should be done by the end of February. (I say that tongue in cheek cuz well... Hawaii and refurb. hehehe) The good news is, I am pretty sure I can use my 7 night cert there next March or April. Then maybe I can contribute to the hotel thread too!

I don't know anything at all about reddit but the more I read here, the more I think I outta learn. ;-)

So do you get a set number of RR points per visit (or transactions) or a varying umber of points depending on how much you spend?

If you opt in for email communication you get 3x RR per dollar plus whatever you would get with the credit you linked to the dining network.we get maybe a couple of emails a week from them. If you opt out of email communications then you get 1x RR per $ spent. You get 500 bonus RRpoints after earning 1500 RR points via any combination of dines and reviews. It doesn’t look like Rapid Rewards dining has the VIP 5x bonus.

Thanks. I really need to look into this -- if nothing else, it would be a few new points to keep my old points from expiring. Plus, with Discover being at 5% this quarter (x2 for being the first year), I am planning to buy some restaurant GC this month. Sounds like they should work for the airline credits?

Sure. The expedited card is essentially a replacement card.
Yes when it shipped I got an email indicating it was a replacement card. I remember a conversation like this many pages back but can't remember if it was safe to use both or not?

So we stayed at the Fairfield Sandusky on Saturday for our little Cedar Point trip. It was using a free night cert from the Marriott CC so no cost, yay!

I charged $1.75 to the room for a Diet Mtn Dew (used the CSR so oh boy, used another $1.75 of the travel credit there!!) AND somehow was given 500 points for the stay, LOL! Kind of a strange one...Free Night + Reimbursed Dew + $3.50 worth of Marriott points...I guess I'll chalk it up as a win!

Are you Gold by any chance? Gold and up get Welcome amenity now "Celebrate with a gift of 250 or 500 bonus points (varies by brand) when you arrive for your stay."

IHG's been doing it for a few years and it's quite nice. It had been an option at check in, either a water/snack or 500 or so points, but all the last stays they just automatically give me the points and don't ask. I guess most people took the points! I know I did except for one time when we stayed for a race and forgot to bring a bottle of water. I took the water and trail mix instead of the points. Got home and much later found points too  I guess they were so used to handing out points someone automatically added them to the ressie.

How many times (%) would you say you have been cancelled or substantially delayed with frontier?
I work in a resort here in Vegas and most of the stay overs we get that have problems with their flights are mostly Frontier/Spirit flights. Like 80% of them...

Definitely. It’s 105k Marriott points! I’m locked out of the Starriott cards for at least the next two years, and squeezing in before Marriott implements peak pricing, so you bet I was going to fight for the adjustments.

I’ll be sure to post about the hotels. They’ll be my first DISchurners hotel reviews.

I just love SPG’s historic properties in Waikiki: the Royal Hawaiian, the Moana Surfrider, and the Sheraton Waikiki. We’ve actually stayed in both the Moana and Sheraton. My wife and I held our wedding reception at the Moana. We’ve never stayed at the Royal Hawaiian, although we’ve toured and visited the property several times. So that’s something I’m really looking forward to. The Moana and Royal Hawaiian are just quintessentially old Hawaii, and the Sheraton — and I’d add the Hilton Hawaiian Village — also have that effect of transporting you back to another time.
I stayed at Royal Hawaiian for work several years ago. It is a nice location with lots of restaurants and window shopping in a walkable distance but the rooms felt run down to me. It was so nice to see the sunrise over the ocean as I headed office to the office. And the mai tais there can’t be beat! (Great part was they offered the fed’l gov’t rate for the rooms, that’s how I was able to stay there.)

That story about the British woman was so bizarre. I don’t understand why that would happen, especially since non-Muslims can drink in the UAE. I had a friend that lived in Abu Dhabi for two years and never had any issues at all, and that area is more conservative and much less touristy than Dubai.

Yeah, initial reports seemed way too crazy. But it was still part of the fiasco and evidently not the first time it's been at least a contributing factor to other immigration problems because of how one can define "intoxicated in public" (which is illegal). I can understand it if you got blotto on the flight over and walked off the plane visibly intoxicated, sure. But I figure to play it safe have that champagne shower early on in the flight :p

The points are based on the amount of the meal so it varies. You then get an email to review the restaurant and you get additional points for the review. There’s a Chinese restaurant that we frequent that is part of it. We were just there on Mon and I got the email today for the review. Easy way to earn points without doing much but registering the CC for the program. DH questioned why I used my CSR instead Discover when we were there in July and I tried to explain and just gave up. I knew we would have no problem hitting in the $1500 restaurant spend.

Probably doesn’t hurt to try using it..worst that can happen is its declined and you use the other card

Thanks. We aren't going to hit the $1500 this quarter and I've found that if I have GCs I'm more likely to want to eat out, so I'm trying to not amass a huge amount in GCs -- but on the other hand, 10 percent back plus airline points . . .

I don’t expect we’ll be in the room much. Lol
