I love credit cards so much!

Side note, got 10% back on Insurance up to $20 back, good through 12/31, on my ED. I think my car insurance that's up in Jan actually gets charged in Dec so I may try to figure out how to do a partial payment.

Thanks for posting this. Just checked and I have this one too. I'm gonna call my agent and see if she can do a partial payment.

So . . . for those with the SPG Luxury card AND the $300 Amex offer . . .

If I charge exactly $300 at the Marriott front desk, will I get $60 back from the Amex offer AND the $300 Lux credit? Or, would my Marriott spend be netted as $240 for Lux credit purposes. Just wondering if I should charge $360 at the front desk, which would net me $300 in order to use up the Lux credit.

Scrambling to try and figure this out before we leave town tomorrow. Marriott res tomorrow night!

Hm, interesting thought. My guess is it stacks like AmEx offers do, since they're both keying in on the same charge. But, I have no idea how AmEx does their statement credit as card benefits - if that looks for refunds normally. Then again that sounds like too much IT work for them, given how sign up bonuses seem to only calculate positive charges, and not net charges, automatically. That'd be a lot of + 300, - 300, - 60, + 60 where they'd charge you $60 to balance out the credit from their credit...

So just to follow up on my attempts to get a points refund for a SPG award reservation that went down in category pricing under the new Marriott charts.

I’ve tried calling several SPG numbers listed on the website, on my SPG Gold card, and every rep will go into the reservation, essentially try search for award rooms for those dates to make the adjustment. However, because the reservation is for new year’s in Hawaii, all award availability is sold out, and the SPG reps can’t help me.

I’ve been tracking this issue on FT, and some people seem to have more luck getting a points refund on their award certs and bookings, even when there’s no availability, by calling Marriott. So I call Marriott. The first rep I reach looks up the confirmation number in her system, but she keeps asking me for my name, the property name, dates, because she can’t locate the reservation in her system. I let her know that it’s a legacy SPG property, and she’s like ooooh, that’s why I can’t locate it and she transfers me to a SPG specialist. The SPG specialist is on a Platinum line, very nice really wants to help. At this point, I’m also trying to be very nice to my reps because I want them to help and can only imagine the amount of anger they’re getting from their customers. The SPG specialist tries the same method of pulling award rooms for the same dates as my reservation but can’t find any availability. She lets me know that’s how the system basically, automatically, matches the points for the same room and dates. I ask if she can’t just look up the dates on the new award chart and manually make a courtesy adjustment, and she tries something along those lines but the system won’t let her. She’s convinced that it’s more of a technical issue than anything else that’s not letting her make the adjustment, so she asked that I call back in a few days.

It’s not issue resolved, but the tone is a lot better than what I’m getting from SPG directly. (Apparently, the SPG front line reps are PISSED.)
I have a dumb question regarding this.... since I booked a nights and flights package, how would I know if my hotel is cheaper pointswise now than it was before? It's Marriott Wailea...how do I calculate the points for a 7 night cert.?

I got this on both SPG and ED cards. Giggles and kicks I tried to add it to both, since I actually remembered to sign into both this time, and no multi cards on this one :( Has the "Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels." language and it is enforced.

Boo didn't get this one. Maybe it will appear in the coming days...

Do you know your exact anniversary date? Its possible that if you upgrade right now, then use the $300 credit before your anniversary date, you could come out WAY ahead. What I'm trying is this . . .

Upgrade DH today. His anniv date is 10/7, so we pay a prorated fee of only $43(ish) less a small amount we would get back from the "old" card - about $9. Use the $300 credit by buying a gift card at the front desk (I read somewhere this works but I haven't researched extensively). So profit is $266.

Then on 10/7, we get hit with a $450 fee but we also get another $300 credit. Plus a free night worth $50k.

If this works how I think it will, this is a no brainer. The issue for me will be the MSR. Amex is hard!
Ok I'm apparently way off in my memory of when I opened this card since my AF was last due on Nov 23,2017. I had thought this was an August card..... so Now I need to think about this. even more. and..... What was the free anniversary night change to the SPG card again?(reg. card) it was free night up to 35k on anniversary, right? but it was tied to the date of card opening...I can't recall what that detail was....help please?

:jumping1:
I got my reservation changed!

The rep was like, it's $1.91 less and the Disney rep told me it might get applies as a resort credit, but it might not since you'll have to give them your card at check in... so then it would be refunded to us and it should get refunded back to you then. And I'm thinking, I don't even care, call it paying $2 for the extra night :rotfl:

Now to make sure my boss doesn't have a heart attack over me asking for an extra day off. I could either do a half day and come in after our flight lands... or just take the day off. Yeah that sounds good.
I just did something similar to my trip in October. Instead of getting a hotel park and flight package for $271 because of a 6am MHT- MCO flight. I reschedule my SW flight to leave the night before 5:35pm direct MHT-MCO and booked Pop for that night for 9787 URs ($146.81)and will pay $102 to park at the airport garage and got over 6K RR points back!!!! So we now get a full day in the park instead of just half day!

How is Disney with moving your luggage btw hotels? My stay now is Pop/AKL/Pop. I have never done split stays before so any tips are welcome! What is the latest time that they pick up your bags?

We've always just dropped ours off at bell services before we leave the hotel in the morning and tell them we are transferring. This includes Swolphin. Once we went from Dolphin to Pop and got back to Pop after midnight and our bags were in our room (think I did online check in). Once we went from Dolphin to BLT and had to call and request our bags when we got there, probably got them around 8pm. We did not do online checkin that time. We usually drop them off early because we're rope dropping a park, so I'm not sure when they actually move them.

ETA: I'd think at Pop you could just get them yourself when you get there on your second round, or if you do online check in maybe they'll put them up there for you! Maybe at AKL too!

Officially updated for Labor Day trip :rotfl:
pending PTO approval
  • Flight on SW with CP Fri - 10651 RRs
  • Flight home on Frontier - 6560 URs or $66 through Frontier (no bag fees because we're taking backpacks, will pay seat selection fee to be by each other - think I'll book two reservations, then after one checks in we just pay to select the seat beside that person)
  • Hotels:
    • All Star Movies Fri night - $137.11/9,141 URs
    • Pop Sat-Tues nights - $494.10/32,940 URs
  • Tickets:
    • MNSSHP - $159.76 - Used GC stash
    • Volcano Bay - will buy UCTs 3 park, 3 day + 2 days free tickets and upgrade to seasonal pass for $0
      • Cost $328 each, vs the UCT we were going to get for Sept ($271) plus 1 day VB tickets ($90)
      • I had this wrong before, will use SPG Lux today
      • And then this weekend we can also get our HHN tickets with the AP discount, so that's about $25 savings
    • Disney Waterparks - upgrading to Plat Plus APs, hoping to use SPG Lux at Kroger for GCs to cover difference and get fuel savings
    • Epcot time for F&W :drinking1
  • Resort/DS Restaurants:
    • Boma, Sanaa, Trail's End, Kona Cafe, Morimoto

@amalone1013 @Lain I know off the top of my head you both have the card...do we get a free night now with the Lux card or is it after the first anniversary? Trying to figure my game plan pre/post cruise.

So with all the Marriott/Spg nights adding up talk here is my breakdown, it took me awhile to figure it out so here it is in case it helps anyone.

Last year May 2017 opend up Marriott personal.
Added 15 nights at some point. (I can't tell when they added)
added 2 nights by spending $6000+ on the card.
stayed 2 nights.

Total 19 nights - needed to 10 to be silver elite so had 9 nights rollover for this year.

2018
9 rollover nights
15 nights for Marriott personal
Stayed 25 nights beween Marrott/Spg.
I am at 49 nights! (or will be after DH checks out tomorrow). Need to add another night soon I guess. Someone on reddit said they got a night credit each Bday. I checked my Dhs profile and his bday was not on there so I added it but it was yesterday! So not sure that adding it on the actual day would do anything. I think I am about $1000 short of adding another night by spend also but need to finish MSR before I do thatl

We stayed several more nights during our Grand Canyon/Utah trip last year but those were all through the UR portal so none of them counted.

Also, what does everyone's nights/flights thing say? Mine says cat 1-5, I thought the wording had switched on it to reflect points not category. My annual free night cert wording switched to 25000 points instead of cat 1-5.

Still waiting for the bonus points on my husband CIP ......met the spend 8/16...statement closed 8/19...just looked and they still don’t show pending. :(

I'm waiting too...met spend on CSP 8/17 and statement closed 8/19, nothing shows pending. It's making me nervous!

Still has the original name.

Yes up to a 35K night at anniversary. So with the Lux upgrade, you would get up to a 50k night instead. Frequent Miler has done a couple of good recent posts on the Lux upgrade. Worth a read.
