I love credit cards so much!

To risk sounding dumb what does it mean to be subscribed to the sub? I am thinking that is not me. Is there a reason I should subscribe? Do you just get emails when someone posts like I do with this thread?
I don’t think I’m subscribed either. I was planning to look at it today. I get emails from reddit but they aren’t about DISchurner activity.

Adding to my original post: I should note that my SPG Amex has a spend $300 at an SPG hotel get a $60 credit offer.

If you can get up to $300 in charges or you plan on staying at another Sheraton before the offer ends, I would use that one. (I used mine, but don't remember what the specifics were on brands of hotel). I charged a dinner from Picabu to our room to up our room charges to help us meet the $300 plus we stayed at a 2nd Sheraton a couple weeks later that put us over the $300.

I don't get any emails from Reddit. For those that are really active on Reddit, I think it's a way to access your favorite subs quickly... Otherwise, I'm not sure what else it really does, haha.

Question for you experts about the SPG/Marriott merger.
I have an upcoming stay (8/14-8/20) at the Dolphin. (I booked on points under the old points value.)

The big merger is supposed to happen while I’m there on 8/18.

While there, am I better off charging to my SPG Amex, Marriott Rewards card, or my CSP?

I want to get the most bang for my buck points wise.

Thanks in advance!

I agree with @WVMomof3.

If you can spend up to $300 in room charges, I'd go with the Amex SPG.

Both the Amex SPG and Chase Marriott card will earn you 6x Marriott points on Marriott/SPG stays.

The Amex Offer for a $60 statement credit tips the balance in favor of the Amex SPG, if you think you'll spend at least $300.

The CSP will earn you 2x UR on your hotel stay, which could be a good option if you value UR>Marriott. Keep in mind that UR points transfers to Marriott points 1:1.

Am I clear about this? As of right now, after 8/26 if you don 't have a Marriott/SPG and decide to go SPG route you would not be blocked from any cards in that family?

Yes, if you don't have any Marriott or SPG cards prior to 8/26, the new restrictions will not stop you from getting all three SPG cards: SPG personal, SPG Biz, and SPG Lux. Just keep in mind that the SPG personal card is expected to be discontinued sometime early-2019.

Thank you!

Things are always so much less stressful when you go into this 0/24! :D

Congrats!

:cheer2::jumping1::cool1:party::jumping1::jumping2:

Thank you! HAHA I will admit, I was a tiny bit anxious when I saw the CSP processing. I was glued to my screen.
Congratulations! party:
Thank you!
Yeah, the CSR is automatically expedited and should be delivered in ~2 days via UPS Express Envelope.
Looking forward to it! I am still on the fence if I should send Chase a message seeing if it would expedite the CSP. I don't want to press my luck.

Thank you both! With the resort fee, I’ll be able to hit the $300 mark no problem there. I will def use the Amex. Just wanted to make sure I was getting robbed of any points with the merger.
Side note- I got a merger email that mentioned 10 points/$1 spent at hotels today. It was unclear which card it was referencing though...

Thank you both! I saw today on the merger news that they were going to be offering 10 points/$1 but I wasn’t sure what card they were referring to for this, or if it was just something that came with a stay?

And of course I can’t find the link to where I read it...

Those points are how much you'll earn for dollars spend on your stays as a Marriott Rewards program member, regardless of what additional points you'd earn using one of their (or third-party) credit cards.

Thanks!
So just to be clear, I can get 16 points for every $1 spent ($10 for being a member and $6 for paying with it on my card)? Sorry- just double checking. Idk why this merger has me confused as it does...

Yes, but points not dollars for every $1 spent.

All members will earn 10 points per dollar spent on eligible hotel charges (5 points per eligible dollar at Element, Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites hotels). Elites status will get your more, between 11 and 17.5 points per dollar spent.

The Amex SPG card or the Chase Marriott card will earn you another 6 points per dollar of eligible purchases at SPG and Marriott hotels.

@amalone1013, found this in regards to the hilton gift cards. I am confused on using them for the room rate. Room rate isn't listed, but it technically gets charged to the folio and all billed together with other on property charges. So maybe it works? I am hesitant to buy a bunch until I know.View attachment 342255

They don't point it out specifically anywhere about the room rate charges, but it does work. It could be as simple as a marketing ploy to get you to spend more money on the incidentals or they figure they don't need to advertise it because it's assumed. I did a lot of research before I bought my first batch too, because I'm also a fine print reader like yourself :teeth:, and I found several comments online about it working and got a few responses on the DIS here too from folks that used them before that confirmed it, (ETA: forgot, I called one of the hotels I was staying at and confirmed it with the front desk too before I booked it) and then I've used them twice this year on room rate only bills and there's no problems.

I know I'm not an expert, but really that's about all it does. For all the sub reddits you're subscribed too, your login/home/landing page will show all the best/top posts from your subscriptions. So as soon as I login I get a mix of posts from churning, DISchurners, and some budget travel sub I selected when I first setup my account. Otherwise it just makes it easy to get to the sub reddit being pinned to the top bar :) I haven't found any other use for it, although I'm sure there's supposed to be!

Man my poor friend is having a heck of a time getting providing documents for her business Marriott! She has a legit small business and applied as a sole proprietor but didn't use her name for the business and now they are requesting a crazy amount of documentation! They want paperwork showing her business name, state #s, license numbers all on one page! And they want it faxed or mailed. How crazy? She is like "How do you get these cards!?"--here I am with a "business" and I have been approved for like 4 or 5 cards without so much as a phone call (except for you, Marriott Business ).

I would say it is for sure another data point that if you apply as sole proprietor don't get fancy with business names! I told her it it will all be worth it when we are on the beach in Maui, getting 7 nights for free--after flying there on SW with our companion passes of course :cool1:.

Also, I had such FOMO with that business Aviator that I applied thinking it was going to disappear the next day...got approved but have been regretting not getting one for DH. 50k AA miles for one purchase? I mean how can you turn down that low hanging fruit? But then looking around today it seems the offer never went away unless I am missing something.

I have motion sickness (have tried Bonine also with mixed results). What I find interesting is that ToT and GotG do not make me sick yet Star Tours, Mission Space and Soarin make me want to yak. This is why I haven't gone on a cruise. I've thrown up on boats before and almost on planes so I'm terrified to be stuck on a ship for days...! And just so you gals who have not had dc know...my motion sickness was fairly mild before children...and got worse after having babies. Not sure if that is normal or not.

ETA: I say I tried Bonine but it was just meclizine.

Man those are the rides that do me in too! ST is the worst followed but Soarin and RnR. I don't even attempt to do Mission Space--I think I rode it once when I was a teenager. No good tummy feelings can come from placing myself in a centrifuge. Have you done the Harry Potter ride in Universal? :faint::crazy2:. I think that takes the cake. That was atrociously bad! I legitimately thought I was going to puke. These are all reasons why I too am afraid of a cruise. I don't want to gamble vacation time or money on something that might be terrible.

I just had this epiphany. I am trying to get my BF's into churning so that they can accompany us to all of our vacations. To someone who isn't getting flights/rooms for free this gets expensive! But I started thinking how brutal it is going to be to get 7 award seats! Regret! :rotfl:I guess yet another reason to diversify cards. If I can mix airline miles with statement erasing type cards it will all work out.

Not done the HP ride but note to self, that I definitely won't be now lol!

I'm building up my nerve to try a cruise. We were at some friend's party a couple weeks ago and one of the gals was telling me about them going on a cruise with another couple. Apparently, one of the rudders or something on the ship went out and the ship was kind of bobbing around side to side :scared1: They had it fixed within 24 hours but she was saying they would walk down the hall and made a game of trying not to hit the walls as the ship leaned from side to side. She thought it was fun and hilarious but the other gal was stuck in the room being all  Yep, that would pretty much ruin cruising for me.

I am going to get it set up now and do the prepay on CIP thing.
Yay! Hope it works for you and @DisneyMandC :)

Even though I tend to get very good use out of my 5gb each month, I don't think the $5 savings would cancel out the $45 increase to switch to an unlimited plan :rotfl:

Yeah, I wish I didn't need unlimited, but since I can't connect to my home internet and our work wifi is sketchy, I don't want to constantly be worrying about going over data limits. Honestly, it's not too terrible in terms of pricing with AT&T though, and the service is better than any other I've had.
