I love credit cards so much!

Major FOMO on the Marriott/SPG cards.

That is a lot of rambling to get to: if you have no SPG/Marriott cards, which would you go for before 8/26? I need to go back and read all the benefits of each one to help me decide if I/DH should go for one. Thanks.

Assuming no SPG/Marriott cards currently, I would focus on the Amex SPG cards and avoid the Chase Marriott cards.

Getting any of the Marriott cards now would, generally speaking, disqualify you from the Amex SPG card’s after 8/26. There are 2 Marriott cards, and 3 Amex card’s. 3 > 2.

The bonuses are richer on the Amex SPG-side too. The SPG Biz currently has a 100k Marriott points after $5k/3 months MSR offer, first year annual fee waived (offer expires 10/31); the SPG personal has a 75k Marriott points after $3k/3 months MSR offer, first year annual fee waived; and the SPG Luxury is rumored to come out on 8/23 with a 125k Marriott Points offer after $5k/3 months spend, $450 AF not waived. Keep in mind that the SPG personal is supposed to be discontinued sometime early 2019, when the Starriott brands completely merge and Chase gets the consumer and premium consumer cards, and Amex gets the super premium consumer and small business cards. So while some people suggest waiting for the SPG personal to raise its offer (because 75k Marriott is equivalent to the old 25k Starpoints offer), there’s no telling how much longer the SPG personal card will still be around.

Getting one of the Amex SPG cards has no preclusive effect on getting another under the post-8/26 rules. If DH churned through all 3 Amex SPG cards, at their current offers, that’s 300k Marriott points from the welcome bonuses alone. Remember, Amex welcome offers are generally once per lifetime, so DH won’t be coming back to churn those cards again. Getting the SPG personal and Luxury will add cards to DH’s */24 count, but they’d make him ineligible for the Chase Marriott cards for 25-27 months (24 months after bonus received) anyway. And in about 2 years, these cards will drop off, and assuming DH is under 5/24, DH can see about going for the Chase Marriott cards.

The Chase Marriott cards are both offering 75k Marriott points right now with a $3k/3 months MSR, AFs not waived. That’s just 150k Marriott points combined.

Another question on the Sapphire double dip... Say I am fortunate enough to get both approved, can I expedite one or both of them? Or is that just asking for trouble with Chase?

Chase automatically expedites the CSR, but generally does not expedite the CSP.

Glad to hear it worked out for both. Hopefully I have the same luck. I can use my laptop for one and then go to the desktop for the other if it works better than incognito.

Thank you, I can't wait to see what happens!

I only have one other Chase card and it is the Disney Visa. It was automatically approved 2+ years ago with a $15,000 CL. I have never charged anything close to that much on that card. Hopefully it doesn't affect my chances. I would be fine dropping it down if it helps the second come through. I have no intentions of keeping the CSP and will product change it to a freedom card after the first year so even the minimum $5,000 CL would suffice.

Glad to hear another double dip was automatically approved. I hope I am lucky enough! I will make sure to see the first approval. When I did the Disney Visa it told me immediately in the web browser. Is that the same process for the CSR if you are automatically approved? Or do you have to wait for an e-mail or something?

It will say on the screen after you submit the app if you are approved, denied or pending review. If it is pending or denied you will have to call right away if you want the double dip. It’s the same process as the Disney visa.

They will automatically expedite the CSR. I got it the day after I was approved.

I used just two different browsers on my phone when I did the double dip. If the two devices is easier though you can do that.

I’d only drop the credit limit if you are approaching 50% of your income in availabile credit with Chase.

Keep the $15k CL on the Disney Visa for now. It’s too late to drop the CL on the Disney Visa for it to make any difference in increasing your odds of auto-approval. And if you encounter credit line issues on either Sapphire applications, you can offer to move some credit from the Disney to open the CSR or CSP. But since you have only one Chase card, you should have plenty of runway for Chase to extend you more credit.

Yes, Chase will let you know if you’ve been instantly approved. If Chase needs more time and tells you they’ll let you know in 30 days, that’s when you need to call recon.

Thanks. I think I will do the double dip Wednesday. I will be home from work all day and can start the process early and have plenty of time to call Chase if need be. I haven't had a new card since Jan 2016 so I think I will be ok with the CSR first. I've read reports of people getting caught up with the auto-approval on the CSP. Does anyone know if its best to apply right after the CSR or wait a certain amount of time on the same day? This is also assuming I get an automatic approval for the CSR.

We went for the CSP pretty much right after the approval came in for the CSR (DH was auto approved). This was on a Thursday afternoon (PT) and the CSR was received that Saturday, the CSP took until the following Saturday (we didn't realize we should have asked them to expedite it, but also didn't want to have extra attention on the applications).

FOP is def worth doing. I never stand in a line longer than 20 min but we rope dropped this and stood 2+ hours. Def worth it since we didn’t have a fp.
I’m in the minority here. It isn’t that big of a deal to me. I like it, but I was fine with sleeping in later and missing it yesterday. Dd said we had to get up early so we could ride.

So I ended up ordering those gizmo watches for my boys thurs on the SW portal and it had 3600 for a new line.
The watch costs $50, no contract.

I split the order and did one through DH rr portal and one thru mine. Just got the email my 3600 are pending. Hopefully dh’s will go pending too. I don’t see why they wouldn’t.

Now I am thinking I should buy some of the $30 version just for the 3600 points!

Great, I would have no problem decreasing the Disney card if it came to that to help the second one pass.

Great turnaround time for the CSR! I should be ok waiting for the second card if approved. I feel the same way, less eyes on the account or calls the better. Hoping I can get by without ever having to speak to a Chase rep :D

I’m having trouble making sense of the Marriott situation. I know you have to apply before 8/26 for the Marriott business card and that is what I am considering. I have the SPG business, so my understanding is I will not be eligible for the Marriott business after that date. But if I get the Marriott business, I won’t be eligible for the new Marriott Premeire card.

I believe the Marriott business card is 75,000 points for $3,000 of spend. Is the new card the same signup bonus? If so, is there a benefit to one over the other?

I am only looking at business cards, as I don’t want to use a 5/24 spot.

You can hold the Marriott Biz and the Marriott Premier Plus at the same time. As you said after 8/26 the SPG Biz would preclude you from having the Marriott Biz, so if you want it, get it before 8/26 (assuming you want to hold both at the same time?). Now for the Premier Plus, just having the SPG Biz doesn't stop you from getting it - that will all depend on when you got the sign up bonus for it. Point "(2) are a current or previous cardmember of either the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business or the Starwood Preferred Guest® Luxury credit card, and received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus in the last 24 months; "
For the Premier Plus you'd have to wait 24 months from when you got the SPG Biz bonus. (I'm assuming you didn't pick up the SPG Biz in the last 90 days)

Both the Marriott's have the same sign up bonus right now, 75k for 3k in spend. And neither have the AF waived for the first year.

Major FOMO on the Marriott/SPG cards. I don't want to get any personal cards right now since I want CSR/CSP later in the year; and a personal SW later which will put me at 4/24. I will be going after the personal Citi AA card so that will push me to 5/24 as well. Also I have CIP and CIC so not sure how likely it would be to get a Marriott Biz. Would rather save a potential 3rd Biz spot for SW biz. Planning to drop the CIP after AF next year so will only have 1 Biz before going for SW Biz.

So it may be time to bring in my Player 2 who plays along but is a little reluctant. He is on board with Biz cards. He has no need for any SW cards so I don't have to save any spots for that for him. Also thinking I'll definitely refer him to CSP at some point but not sure on the CSR. We will not need 2 CSRs and while I can justify a $95AF, not sure he will buy $450 (I know really $150 with the travel credit). So I think he has a lot of room for personal cards.

That is a lot of rambling to get to: if you have no SPG/Marriott cards, which would you go for before 8/26? I need to go back and read all the benefits of each one to help me decide if I/DH should go for one. Thanks.

For me it would depend on if you want to spend the $450 AF for the SPG Luxury. If so, the easiest way is just stick with SPG since they have 3 cards and you can get all of them without restrictions. If not, then it looks like you can get the Marriott Biz, the Marriott Premier Plus and the SPG personal. Start with the Marriott Biz and you can get both personals while holding it.

Scary times... I’ve been sticking with one swipe for MOs but how long before that dies?

Oh joy...more avenues closing. UGH. Hoping these changes are simply store-based policies...I'll probably give it a try later this week. I got MOs last Saturday with no issue, but will note that the cashier tipped me off that they can't do more than one MO transaction per person per day anymore. She let me do it that day since I wasn't aware of the change, so I managed two MOs in two transactions (4 swipes), BUT she also did say I could get two MOs in the same transaction. Obviously, I didn't ask if 4 swipes in one transaction would be ok lol.

Will likely keep it to 1 MO and 2 swipes going forward, which is my standard operating procedure if I MS, but the ones I had to convert last Saturday were $300 VGCs, so I was just lazy to make two trips for those

Thanks for tagging me and the heads up!

I still need to get a MCGC to try with the MasterPass Promo. Been a busy week. Will let you know if I get the same error you did.

I tried searching, but I couldn't find it - How long did it take everyone to get their miles into their SW account from their travel packages?

Details please lol. What sort of gizmo?

Gizmopal I think they are called. I wanted my boys to have them for when I drop them at sports or they ride bikes to a friend’s or something. It is a smart watch they can call/text a few pre-programmed numbers.
Anyways, the sw portal had Verizon in there as 3600 pts for activating a new line and the watches worked for it. They do require a line at $5 a month but no contract.

Marriott Biz does not preclude getting either the Marriott Premier Plus or the SPG Personal. [Maybe that’s not what you’re saying.]

But if he got the Marriott Premier Plus, that would bar him from the SPG personal because he’ll have or had the Marriott Premier Plus in the last 30 days;

Unless DH cancels either the Marriott Premier Plus or the SPG personal and waits 30 days before applying for the other. But this puts the other card off at least a year because he shouldn’t cancel a card within a year.

why waste a slot on Citi AA? Have you gotten the Citi Biz and Barclay AA Biz first? You can also buy a Citi Biz mailed on Reddit so you can churn the Citi Biz every 60 days. You can set up a dummy AA account in your dogs name and try to get mailers sent to you. I haven’t had luck with that tho but others have.
Thanks for picking out the AA items. Both DH and I got the Citi Biz and Barclay AA Biz. That is why I was moving on to the personal. I have a certain flight I want and the anytime award is 137K round trip. So trying to accumulate at least that much for both me and DH. (after Citi Biz and Barclay will have 125K). I am still a newbie when it comes to miles and other airlines other than SW. It looked like I would need to pay a fee to combine miles on AA accounts. It didn't look insignificant. How does it work to set up dummy accounts or buy a Citi Biz mailer? Would I still need to set up a new account and then try to combine miles for a fee?

Thanks, Lain. I had to chuckle at the 3>2 comment! I totally think in math terms so this made so much sense to me. I think going for the SPG cards makes sense. I got the SPG Biz when it was 35K starpoints for 7K MSR. 100K Marriott points for 5K MSR sounds good to me and will boost our Marriott points.

Thanks. I don't think I want the $450 AF for me or DH at this point. I think first up is SPG Biz for DH.

Yep, that was what I was saying, but I do believe you're right on the rest. I worked that out for a long game or something else I was looking at before where that worked. If you were just looking for the points. I think it's Marriott Biz, then grab the SPG personal while it's still around, and then get the Marriott PP in a year +31 days.

It's getting late though, so I might be mis remembering :p

Whomp whomp - after procrastinating so long to get my DDs PNC account set up with graduation money we finally sat down tonight to get it started. She failed the 2nd question - are you 18? NOPE. Grrr, I made her an AU on our last card to get this done. Can you do CC funding in person?? Or should I make her wait another month. Hate to send her off to school with no debit card. Though I don't think she would need cash that often. She has a savings at our credit union and we actually tried to get her a debit there last year and they said she had to be 18, though I am sure my older DD had one from there before 18. Maybe we need to try that again.
